I concur. Don't let the impatient people get to you. Games get the most hype before and just after they are released. If it is released while still being unfinished you risk losing a lot of buyers and the hype can die very fast. The impatient people who are stressing you for a release will not be forgiving if they feel that the game doesn't live up to their expectations. This game has such potential so please just do your thing. You won't lose buyers by delaying the release for another month or two if you need. Instead the hype will build up and you might even get more buyers while releasing a more finished product that you feel more satisfied with!

After watching the last video, I couldn't help but notice when you kill things with a shovel you also dig blocks around the enemy's. This is why you should have swords. And make it so swords can't dig, only kill enemy's. Also you should make it so you have to be closer to the enemy to kill it. Looking great! :)

Well, don't need to be, they said that you can play this game even on an iPad in 2X mode, but it will be a little bit pixelated :) And they are planning on doing an iPad version if they feel it's worth it :P

The first thing I'm going to do is collect a bunch of wood, and build a big wooden house, with a basement. And have a tunnel going down into a cave from my basement.

The thing I'm looking most forward to is quests. Hopefully quest will be challenging and keep the game fresh. The game play video we saw of quests was quite disappointing. Both quests in the video were just, go find this item for me. And they found it within a minute.

I hoping for really challenging quests, like survive a night with out going into shelter, or kill a certain amount of enemy's. etc. Please make hard quests!

I really hope that there will be a lot of depth to the game for example - many different crafting recipes and ways to make your stuff better also I think it would be awesome if you could have a pet that followed you around and maybe had it's own inventory or something :)

I think fish should spawn in water, lakes or ponds. but not follow you around. i think they should add a dog/wolf that follows you around
it eats the same food you eat. in order to tame it you have to kill a skull and get a bone. then you have to give the bone to the dog. the dog would protect you and attack anything that attacked you.

I think that this footage has been recorded when the game was in its early build, and they were only testing the quest system. I don't think that things will come out of the ground like in this video in the final build (I just watched the latest video again and didn't saw any of those)!

For months Ive been counting on this game to help bridge the gap to Skyrim in November. Since I bought my iPAad the constant search for a terraria 2d minecraft, has gone unrewarded. Until I noticed Junk Jack. Each passing day that this game doesnt come out has been an unbearable wait. My question is this, to anyone who can answer. I know beta testing a game can take any length of time. But now that we're at that stage, is there more of an estimated time frame now? Please tell me its not much longer. I applied for the beta esting a few weeks ago, but who knows how that will turn out.

Exactly when I first started testing, I figured it would be fun and I would just get to play a game. 27 games later, and I'm a quality tester who gives a good amount of feedback regarding gameplay and bugs. I don't mean to brag by this I'm just saying that a good tester is exactly what the title implies, you have to test and re-test like recreating bugs or crashes to really see the problems and overall contribute to making the game great.

I did. Your quote wasn't actually from the email so I got confused with what you were saying but I still don't understand where you see they will then get the second round for more testing after the 2-3 week period. Did they say that somewhere?

I know they mentioned they were pushing back release until mid - end october which is why I'm assuming the 2-3 weeks is saying 2-3 weeks, then the game comes out.

Which led me to the conclusion that "thanks for your support in these months" was in regards to us helping them finish the game, assuming the have us test later builds with addons like the water or whatever else they're planning to add.

Could be wrong though. I guess we'll wait and see :)

I'm going out in 10 minutes so I'll leave a brief review.

Been playing with it for the last... hour or so?

I'm loving it! You start off with nothing and no idea what to do. Figured out how to move (just slide your finger side to side w/ auto jumps). Quite easy and fluid once you understand that. Just tap to destroy blocks. When blocks are equipped you just tap to place. Hidden all around in the dirt, sand, trees, are little notes which give you hints of what to do, mini-tutorials, a couple crafting recipes. Also hidden around are little wooden blocks which contain various things, little metal doors give you pills, pots give you jewels and broken glass, treasure chests which have fun supplies in them. Trees give you fruit to heal hearts.

So far enemies I've encountered have been spiders (looks like there are two different kinds) and the skulls. If they take a heart away you can't get your hearts back by eating fruit. If you respawn you lose a few things (looks to be random from what I can tell.)

For anyone who has played minecraft before it's very similar as far as the objective goes. But note to users that shovels, axes, pickaxes, etc are not exactly constructed in the same way so you can't use those guides for this game.

Only one crash so far but can't replicate it. The only frustrating part is I can't figure out how to mine any rocks? The pickaxe is sucking right now. Or I'm sucking. One of the two

For the non-testers this game is well worth the wait :)

You would recognize them from the old videos where the stones slid down the dirt like a boulder... except these dont slide. If you destroy everything around it the block just floats.

Falling boulders still don't satisfy us so they just don't fall and behave as every other block but they are not undiggable, they just require a minimum level for the tool: a wood pickaxe is not enough for example.

Some other blocks are undiggable because they have things on their top (eg: you can't destroy a tree by just removing the dirt block beneath it).

No the webpage application didn't ask for experience. I guess not every beta asks for past experience.

The controls take a bit to get used to, but the game flows very well. To move you just tap and slide to the left or right. Jack automatically jumps up ledges (that are one space). Attacking/breaking stuff down involves just tapping, so it is very easy and intuitive.

I love the fact that they put in items like these,for collecting purpose,for example when I played terraria I got almost everything,best weapon,best armor,but I wanted to keep playing,I set a goal for myself to collect every item in the game and this was 5 months ago,im lacking 3 items now and I have everything.When Junk Jack gets boring(will take some time I guess because its cool!) you can try to collect these items

Beta testing phase is going quite fine up to now.. we managed to fix many things and enhance the game at the same time, so release date is slowing coming near!

Sorry for the delay, but we're quite perfectionists. We would like to avoid releasing anything buggy. Content is not a problem (we have tools to add it quite fast) but we want a ROCK SOLID ENGINE first!

I'm pretty sure that I speak for (almost) all of junkjack's fans if I say that we will wait if you guys can get the game working fine :)

Junkjack is my biggest hype in this year and I visit the forums everyday to hear something from the testers,if there will be a beta wave 2 I will definitely apply but maybe all the bugs will be found & fixed so you don't even need a second wave,well lets hope the game gets released quick without problems :)

I have a couple questions about JJ:
1) I saw some maps for the game either in this thread or on their blog (I can't remember which). Does that imply that there is a limited amount of digging one can do, or is there some way players can continue digging and looking for stuff (either through the dirt re-growing, or entering newly created areas, etc)?
2) Is there a finite amount of inventory space? In games like these, I find it fun to try to collect all of the different items, but obviously that won't be possible if there is very limited inventory space.

I wonder, Dazarath, have you played Terraria? Or Minecraft?

I'm fairly certain the inventory management will be like that and from what I've read the crafting is more Terraria-like.

If you haven't, I'm pretty certain there is limited inventory space, but you can make chests to store your stuff and from pictures there are shelves to display items you pick up as well. Depending on how much stuff there is you probably won't need too much space.


No idea on the size limits, need one of the testers to answer that. ^^

1) The world is finite, but very very big. If a world gets exausted you can always use another save slot to generate another world, take the resources from there, and bring them to your world, since the inventory is shared.

I'm Jack, the developer of the game.

Yes, the world is limited but in my mind I would to have chunks, I just haven't got enough time to develop them yet. Inventory is of course limited (who wants an infinite inventory?) and you can either place things inside chests, either place them on various objects in the world (shelves, tables, etc). I would possibly develop bags so that you can carry bags with you (maybe item specific) but that's another story :P

You touch the Screen if you wana destroy or build something and if you wana move around you swipe and keep holding into the direction you wana go.

It`s pretty clever so once you get used to it you can almost play it like a Jump'n'Run Game :D

These videos don't do justice. These videos make the game look laggy. Which it isn't at all. The game runs extremely smooth the whole time you're playing it. No lag what so ever.
