Promo Codes for Lurkers ;)

Haha, for some reason this funny devious thought came into my head since I usually see promo codes being given out and us T.A. members usually get irritated since they get all the goodies without paying dues. So, I thought that it would be cool and kind of funny in my twisted world if there was a prank that a developer would put up a fake app with a bunch of codes and when lurkers use the codes it wipes out all the information on their iPod/iPhone turning it into a useless brick :D:D:D:D:D

The only bad part is that I wouldn't want any of the members here to get caught with that haha :p

Wouldn't work. Apps are sandboxed; they don't have write access to anything outside their own little corner of the device, and can't read most areas either.

Could be done on a jailbroken device, but then it wouldn't be promo codes because the malware wouldn't come from the App Store.

Devs are better off asking members to PM them on TA for promo codes. Maybe the codes are taken by TA members themselves, they just don't post a response or say thanks.

Well as a recovering lurker (been coming here since Jan/Feb-ish) I can say I've never taken a promo code, and if I ever did I would have signed up and said so cause you should probably thank someone who's giving you a free game! However, now that I have signed up I've never been able to get a promo code! They're always already gone. So I could see why it's so annoying, and a disservice to the dev if they don't even get a review out of the thing. But mucking up someones iDevice is pretty dirty, maybe GatorDeb's idea is kinda funny but then again there's already enough useless junk in the App Store. C'mon it takes like 2 minutes to register, speak up ya thieves! ;)

Developers posting promo codes should put the codes in an attached text file, so only registered users can view them. A few developers have done this before, and I think it's a great idea.

It's really irritating to read the same repeated drivel regarding 'lurkers'. If you have a thousand posts and joined in the last 4 months, it means you have too much time on your hands.
