View Full Version : Quantum Collapse (RTS) - First ingame Video!!

Hey guys!,
As promised here is a small video of the combat system in Quantum Collapse, it will unquestionably be the best Real Time Strategy game on the Iphone.
Sorry about the lack of sound :D i couldn't get my screen capture software to do it properly and i'd rather go back to programming than fight some crappy piece of software. So just picture this with lots of "pew pew" and you'll get the picture.
As you guys know this is work in progress, which means things will only get better :D, more weapon types, more explosions and lots more. Ohh and building collision isn't coded yet so you might see some units moving over buildings hehe, sorry its work in progress! :D
Anyway, one favor, please help me get the word out, if you have contacts with iphone websites and stuff please tell them to feel free to show the video on their sites.

Just wanted to drop by and say the game is coming along REALLY good. like way beyond i ever expected.
I just finished coding unit abilities (each unit will have a unique ability that you can activate and has a cooldown). And also Runes
Along the storyline humans will get access to this strange technology from the aliens. They are called Runes and these are some really bad ass weapons or strategic abilities that if used wisely can change the tide of the battle in a moment.
My favourite is the Singularity, it's a black hole type of thing that absorbs towards his core all projectiles that have been fired around it. This acts as an area combat inhibitor.
I'm hoping to finish all coding by the end of the week. Then it will be polishing maps and balancing things out as i play the game. Then the Apple store!

Looks amazing! The visuals are top, but i hope you can make it be same or better than Warfare Inc in terms of how good it plays ;)

Yes it will, although its not coming with the initial release (YES i know you've heard this before) hehe.

This looks... amazing! Way better than UniWar (sorry to all your UniWar fans out there) but visually, this one beats them all. There's movement, explosions, fire, chaos... the list goes on and on. Looking really nice, great work :)

Thanks for all the compliments guys, i've been working so hard on this, actually not just me but my wife and father in law. they are helping me out with the graphics, Cutscene artwork and User Interface.
The only thing that worries me is that i'm such a nub at this i don't know how to get the word out about my game. I'd hate to work so hard and watch the game go unnoticed.

Yeah and they move and behave completely different than ground units since they are ruled by different physics.
They also cast a very nifty shadow that swirls around the hills and valleys of the terrain but you can hardly tell since the map is a rocky brown meteor

This is looking great! Are the units fully 3D? If they are, wouldn't it be possible to rotate them around 360 degrees, rather than the 8 points that you have now. Also, wouldn't you be able to rotate the camera and make the flying units go up and down. I would also like to see some sea units!

I'm thinking about the tutorial. EVERYONE hates tutorials and (i hate coding them too). So i was hoping to get some ideas from you guys.
The learning curve to get the hang of Quantum Collapse is just a few minutes, although to master it and kick ass in multiplayer is a different story since i'm going to add lots of strategy options.
So about the tutorial, this is what i thought so far:
*A progressive tutorial, with this i mean don't dump all the controls to the player at once but progressively along a few missions.
- For example in the first mission you might learn how to gather Xeron (the purple thing on the video which is the 'currency' of the game) and to build your base, then a little story twist and in the second mission learn how to build armies and destroy the enemy.
- In the next missions the player will learn more about the game mechanics, i won't go into this just yet since it makes my game have very unique characteristics than every other RTS clone. But all these mechanics are pretty much optional to use during the single player campaign, they are more aimed towards PvP since they allow for lots of different playstyles.
What do you think?, any tutorial design suggestions?

thats a really good idea, if you do that make sure you have a tutorial on using any units that function diff from the rest: ex. starcraft mission three taught you how to use bunkers and marines to deffend locations.....later on it taught u how to use the ghost

Well almost, i considered releasing the projectiles after the singularity dissapeared but that would make it ridiculously overpowered so i think i'm just going to drop a Xeron deposit (the resource you use to build stuff) equal to the damage taken.
But i may still do it, but as some kind of super weapon that you get to use once in the game or something.

Rwgarding the sea units he said that there are none due to that this game is set in the future. Also about the camera I don't know but it would be cool though. The source of this is himselfctat I have pm him and he told me no sea units.

I like having different games of the same genre on my phone. No matter how good a game is it may lack features that another may have. This keeps things fun.

Hey Haephestos,
Although there are some 3d things in the game. The units are not one of them. I'm already pushing the iphone as far as it can go. Perhaps if they increase the processor speed on the next gen iphone i can switch to 3d units. But the fact was that i wanted lots of units on screen and that would have been impossible with 3d models.

Depends on what kind of mission like fire support=short-long, while an invasion or so is longer but a good 10-20 minutes would be good

I wasn't so concerned about the units being 3D, but I was more concerned about how the units only seem to have 8 degrees of rotation, which looks knid if tacky.

i hope you don't get any less sales when it comes out because of Stragea because it sounds like your working hard on it. i might actually buy this over stragea because yours looks like more of a challenge and funner to play while i bet the other one is kind of betting on it's 3d graphics to win people over and it's probably too easy or something.

I wouldnt mind if the missions lasted 30 minutes as long as there's an autosave. If its a good game, i want it to last. Thats been my problem so far. There's like really good games and you start to get into them and they end.
Yea this is one of the games that i'm definitely looking forward to. I like being updated on the process of this game :)

I'd be fine with the missions beiong 30 minutes or longer (I wouldn't mind if they were an hour long honestly). There would have to be a way to save mid mission and be able to pick up and play where you left off. And maybe have check points when you pass certain points in a mission.

Yeah it seems to be a very simple minded game, Like most games on the iphone so nothing against the Stragea developers. But what i want to do with Quantum Collapse is make a real game with content and complexity as you would find on a console or PC, not a time killer for when you are bored and have nothing better to do.
So we'll see what happens, i'm certain people who like videogames will love Quantum Collapse. I'm hoping it will appeal to the average cell phone user but only time will tell. Maybe i'll include an 'easy' setting or something but i was hoping not to.

hey, saw u in another thread about the price, what i would do is have it pretty cheap (.99-$2) for like the first couple o days, then make the price highter like $4 a few days later, a very popular marketing idea used by many, thats just what i would do, its tottaly up to u, i will probably get your game figuring i got enough $$$ after zenonia!

Yes i'm still wondering about the price. it's really tricky to figure out.
I mean, i'm kind of risking my future with my game for lots of personal reasons i won't get into. And when i think about selling it for less than a hamburger i feel kind of weird.
I mean i think it's a really good game so i think 4 bucks is already very little money to charge. But you are right though, there's lots of people who won't spend more than 1 dollars or 2 on the apple store so i have to give it a lot of thought.

I think you should first do this for your pricing scheme. Let say u have some money to say be able to buy a server to host multiplayer games. first you price it like say two or three dollars. Then when you are able to incorporate and refine the multiplayer aspect of it u could then raise the price to whatever you want and javier when I just sent you my intial feedback you sent me an email asking how was the beta but I have to say it's so perfect. It was more than I hope for an rts for the idevice.

i think that to get far on the app store you need a marketing strategy.first of you will definately need to go around to a lot of places and tell them about your game.you will need hype for the release.do price changes that will balance between making people happy and a good profit.maybe make it cheaper of the release date so peopletry it and tell others how good it is or maybe make it expensive and if you get in the top 100 lower the price so it goes up further in the top.
sorry did i go on a bit.so ya anyway.that's what i would do.and remember getting the hype is important.

Yep. Pick the two things you like the most and you can comment on them. You can post a couple of screenshots if you want too. But don't do it before finishing missions 4 and 5! because you might like those missions better.

Sorry for forgeting to post some screenshots. Anyways I'll just post one because I have to go somewhere right now. More screenshots later.
The screenshot is what happened to my awesome 23 tank army met an equally powerful 21 enemy tank which wiped each other out except I still have 2 tank as backup but it was no use. Anyways since I only posted one screenshot I would accept request for 2 more screenshots of your choice so please suggest what you like to to see.
