Would I have to actually go to the place and check in? Or would it work if I just did it from my home using the app?

Hi

I use their api in my app Coffee Shop Finder. I think they use an algorithm around your coordinates to determine where you are to stop you checkin in without being there.

You do have to be near the place to check in.
If you are too far away you may not be awarded points/mayorships/badges
