Hello

We would like announce that our new game Monster Pinball has just been submitted to the App store.

We are well known for online games but this is our first iPhone app.

We think this is the most action packed pinball game you will have ever played! Six interconnected tables bring you into the mind boggling pinball world of the Monster Mafia characters sending you into a spin at every flick of your paddles.

This game is not a simulator nor a retro port, it's a totally original pinball extravaganza, taking the core principles of pinball to a new level. Multiple flippers, rebounds, stallballs, boosts, bonus, freeballs and tilt are all present taking the full advantage of the iPod Touch/iPhones power.

Beautifully animated and presented graphics together with wonderfully crazy sound effects. A sensational 60 frames per second physics engine make it the smoothest pinball game yet.

Features

✔ 6 fun packed tables, all interconnected, with varied and unique goals
✔ 60fps giving extra smooth gameplay
✔ Realistic Physics engine developed for this game
✔ Accelerometer tilt function
✔ Hotball feature – Score double points when active
✔ Stunning graphics and animations
✔ Unique sound effects in stereo
✔ Pause, Save and Resume
✔ Local and Online scoreboards
✔ Created specifically for the iPhone/iPod Touch
✔ Created by the wonderful minds of Matmi

We hope that Apple will approve really soon. There will be a paid version and a lite version.

Much better quality video.

Very nice graphics. I love pinball games, so this will most likely be a buy for me!

Thanks. I can't wait for Apple to approve :)
Which other pinball games do you like?

Mr. Charley
05-14-2009, 01:46 PM
If the physics are good, this should be an awesome pinball game.
That's probably the most important thing in a pinball game IMO
Also like that you have the tilt function....
Looks real good. Can't wait.

Care to reveal starting price? :)

Matmi

Thanks for your feedback. We are just discussing prices at the moment so we are not sure what price it will be. As soon as I have more information I will let you know.

Matmi are well known for online games but this is our first stab into the iPhone world. The game works amazingly well and the action is fast and furious. It is so addictive. When I post the video you will see what I mean.

We are working on several other titles at the moment and we are just about to release a flash game for Iron Maiden.

Awesome, I'll add this to my pinball games thread (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=12579) once it gets released. I'm interested to see how the ball physics handle in this game and definitely the online scoring is a plus.

If you need a reviewer, let me know :)

The graphics look very smooth based off the pics you posted. i cant wait to try it out when both versions are released. i wasn't ecstatic when i got freeballin but i am still satisfied. Hope this is better!!! ;)

The physics work wonderfully. It took ages to make it fast and smooth. The tables are all connected so you can truly explore. Some tables are harder to reach than others. Each table has a unique goal. The graphics and animations are very funny.

We have played all the other pinball games and wanted to make somthing totally different and much faster.

I think you will be very happy with the results :)

Mr. Charley
05-14-2009, 02:25 PM
I personally think Freeballin' was horrible because of the physics (or lack thereof). You can't have a pinball game with questionable physics.
I have to agree that the more I look at these pics, they exude speed. :)
I don't know if it's the color scheme, the curves, or what, but it does look like it's going to be fast.
If the framerate holds up (sounds like it should if it's 60fps), this could potentially be a fantastic game. Pretty excited, I must say.

This... looks... EPIC!!

*shudders*

Can't wait to check out some screenies and video, either way, I'm very excited about this coming out!! There's already some pretty decent pinball in the app store, but there's always room for more!! Thanks for the heads up!

Once again... VERY EXCITED!! :D

For the rest of you, wow, I didn't realize there were other super fans like me of pinball, maybe we should start a TA pinball gang or something :)

We could wear leather jackets and act tough, juggling pinballs back and forth or something ( yes I juggle ).

I reckon you will find this pinball game faster and more fun than all the others, at least I hope so.

We really have done a lot of research into pinball and the physics involved. We did not want to make a retro port so we went for a futuristic modern style and gameplay.

When I post the video you will see what I mean.

Six interlocking tables!? Awesome graphics (from screen shots)!? Furious gameplay!? This looks awesome! I've become a huge video pinball fan since getting my iPhone, and it seems that everytime a new pinball is released, it seems to be better than the last one. I own Freeballin' and Wild West Pinball, and I love them both for different reasons. If Monster Pinball is as good or better, it'll be an instant buy for sure. I'll be grabbing the Lite version as soon as it's out!!

Shinto: I want to be in the Pinball gang. To join the gang, would we have to score a certain score to enter? Would our rival gang be the Tower Defense gang?

This looks really great indeed!

The pinball genre for our devices seems to explode these days (and it's not the only one). That's the best thing that can happen :-) There can't be enough good pinball games! Ever!

iPhone and iPod touch are very fast on their way to be the best mobile pinball gaming consoles! I love it.

Maybe I should join the pinball gang. The best pinball game out at the moment is Wild West.

Our lite version will just be one table from the six.

Will try and post a video of of Monster Pinball tomorrow.

I have just had my Iron Maiden - Flight 666 game (flash) go live on Iron Maiden's homepage.
Maybe we will produce a 3D iPhone / iPod touch version?

Thanks for all your comments. We have many new games in production.

We have set the price for Monster Pinball

Remember that it is a massive game with 6 tables all interconnected.
It is very replayable and to achieve all the goals will take an eternity.
I've been playing it for one month and have not even come close to fnishing it!

$3.99
£2.39

That's less than 0.99c per table!

Let me know what you think.

dogmeat

Matmi: I'll update the price point on my pinball megathread. 4$ sounds reasonable considering the # of tables, fast gameplay and what seems to be great presentation value.

Now we just need this thing released :)

So do we. Hopefully Apple will release really soon.

We will try and film a better quality video tomorrow.

Price point seems very fair! Just don't get all antsy after a week and drop the price to 99 cents, just leave it to the Pinball Players Club to spread the word and we'll sell you a bunch of copies :D Do you have any kind of idea of when release might be, or even when you're planning to submit?

EDIT: Nvm, looks like I got my answer while I was posting

It has already been submitted last week. I don't know how long it will take Apple. Let's hope its soon.

We are really proud of this game. I don't want to blow our own trumpet but I reckon this will stand out from the crowd.

Matmi have been making online games for years. This is our first iPhone game under our own name.

Also, I really love how TA allows developers and players to interact on such a level playing field.

We have been creating award winning online games for years. We have always wanted to produce mobile games but the mobiles were rubbish and porting to all the different handsets was a nightmare.

When the iPhone came out we loved it and created a team of developers to work with our digital artists. The pinball game has taken 6 months to finish. We wrote a besposke physics engine and created all the 3D stuff from scratch. Some of the characters have featured in our other games.

Have a look at our site www.matmi.com to see what else we do. Our strapline is Magic across Media and that is what we try our best at.

We love digital design and games. We live and breathe games.

I cannot wait for Monster Pinball release. We were fed up with so many bad pinball apps. We wanted to do something completely different. I think we have succeeded.

You'll have to wait and see :)

Checked out the site.

I used to work professional in game dev, as a pixel artist for a while, so I have a deep appreciation for games and art styles.

I really really love the consistency in art style across your games and the only 2 words I can think of to describe the art style is Japanese-French Fusion. Its cute, but at the same time euro styled. I really like it.

Anyway, I keep trolling the forums instead of working, so back to work for me :)

I'll try to describe the video a bit for those who can't watch it ;)

All tables are fixed view, no scrolling, panning or zooming at all. Complete different tables. Most of the items are comic style, even the fitting and opulent sounds (spacy, alarm sirens, computer generated voices). It's really fast and almost hectic ;) Perfect smooth and believable, realistic physics.

Most tables have more than two flippers (larger and smaller ones!) and are very asymmetric (even the flippers, different shapes). Some vortexes and black holes. Ufos. Visible out-gutters and adjustable plungers at very unusual places. Glowing balls. Awesome shaped ramps. Animated elements (traps, ball eating and spitting muppets, electrifying bumpers). Shiny graphic overlays with special hints. "Bindy Spin", "Hot Ball", "Head Banger", "The Bowl", lots of freeballs, full of fantasy and fun.

Partly rather abstract, but as the devs are saying: "It’s nothing short of a pinball extravaganza, taking the core principles of pinball to a totally new level!"

The controls and the very fast counting LED scores are at the bottom of the portrait view. The player in the video clip has his fingers only here at the bottom of the touch screen and obviously doesn't make use of accelerometer features. Other areas for plungers. Options screen at the beginning.

Really impressive! Can't await playing it. Come on, Apple, click "approved".

Yes, thanks Habakuk!! It's frustrating being stuck at work all day and not being able to check out the vid!

And I second Habakuk for some promo code action, he's very knowledgable of all things pinball and can write really in-depth reviews. He is my pinball role model!

But, let's not forget that Dogmeat started the "Pinball MEGA Thread" and the "Pinball Player's Club" social group, so he is a great ambassador as well :D

Either way it doesn't matter, I think we were all going to get this game day one anyway since it's first announcment :)

You're welcome, Matmi. Monster Pinball seems to be a very cute and fantastic game with a high humour factor. You deserve thanks for it and I wish you lots of excited customers.

Pinballs are my favorited game genre and I am very glad to see that they can work perfectly (if well done) on our beloved iDevices. Arcade rulez.

The bowl is brilliant. If you moving slow you roll into the bowl. Crazy gravity. There are lots of hidden goals in this level.

I guess my favourite table is Hogie Feed or Bindy Spin but I do love Head Banger as well.

Head banger and Bindy Spin are really difficuly levels, I cannot last long on those tables.

I got the highest score out of our whole team last night. Got a feeling when Monster Pinball is released my score will be thrashed by you lot ;)

We thought about making the camera move but the fact is that the ball just moves too fast. The game is 60fps, the camera could never catch up, it would be impossible to play.

We designed the game so that each one on the 6 tables fits in perfectly with the screen. Landscape play would simply not work.

Monster Pinball is fast and furious and very addictive.

Awesome! I can't wait to review this one, although with all the tables and whatnot, I have a feeling it will take me a full week of playing to get a good review out of it.

With most of the pinball games I've reviewed, it takes a few days to really get a feel of the tables.

Yes, do that! ^^^^^^The more the merrier!!!

Well I finally checked out the video when I got home, and I got to tell you this game looks FUN!!! I love all the different monster themes, and all the tables seem very unique. It doesn't seem like your typical "realistic" pinball, it seems like there's some fantasy elements going on but at the same time the ball physics seem to react quite realistically. And it seems super fast!! Overall this game looks amazing, and the graphics are AWESOME! Glad you guys are uploading a new vid, I'll check that one out later as well. Great job so far I'm very ANXIOUS to play this!!!!

Awesome! I can't wait to review this one, although with all the tables and whatnot, I have a feeling it will take me a full week of playing to get a good review out of it.

With most of the pinball games I've reviewed, it takes a few days to really get a feel of the tables.

I've been playing for two months and still can't complete all the goals.

Just waiting for Youtube. Think I will go to the pub for an hour. hopefully will be done when I return.

We made TA front page :) Thanks to who put us their. Much appreciated.

No its not live on the app store but we have a much better quality video on youtube. Its a quick demo of all the tables in action.

Heres what I think: AWESOME!!!

Seriously, the gameplay looks so fast, balls glowing, pieces animating, going from table to table. I really think we're going to have a lot of fun with this one. Now for it to come out :)

Yeh it's fast, but it is much faster on the iPhone or iPod touch as the simulator footage capture was at a low frame rate.

I think you are going to love this game.

I love how all of the tables are so interconnected, just a ramp away and BOOM it's a totally different table. Sure in FB they had little secret extra tables but in this, during a single ball you might travel across three or more of the tables that all have pretty unique themes and objectives. VERY NICE!

I even loved that last bit with, "Available in June...or May if we're lucky."

this is all but a "real" pinball game.

certainly designed for the younger audience.........action, color, sound effects. i'm more into a single table with nice features and goals, which you have to know by heart.

Wow, this is not what I was expecting. Your tables looked a bit empty and repetitive, but from the video it looks like you've managed to put a whole new spin on mobile pinball games! The pace is incredible, and jumping from one table to the next turns the game on its head, it's like a pinball but SOO different at the same time. Others have tried to bring something new to the genre, but this is a leap forward. Of all the other pinballs I only really love WWP for being beautifully simple and working so well, it's just very enjoyable. But this doesn't pretend to be a funky new pinball game like others have done, it takes the pinball, the flippers, the idea of a table, and then reinvents the game and what is fun about it.

The pace, music, those sound effects, they'll probably drive me insane after a while but I'm very impressed. Sale!

Younger audience, you must be joking I'm 36 and cannot stop playing.

Each table has many amazing features, the trick is to try and stay on a table and achieve all the goals before you shoot off on another mission. We have taken the best bits of traditional pinball and injected them with digital fun.

I think it works. All our testers can't stop playing. We getting really good feedback. We have been testing for 3 months and constantly improving the gameplay.

Yeah, I'm interested but this might be a bit more on the FB side as opposed to a REAL wood and metal machine that something like WWP was emulating.

So, answer me this, as long as I'm still on the same ball, will all of the work I've done on a table remain in effect if I happen to make my way back to it (like say I've dropped 2 of a bank of 3 drop targets) or is everything reset on that table as soon as you enter another one?

Yes all work on the table will stay if you go back to it after leaving. It will not reset at any point (except 'game over' or completion of bonus). Freeballs are available on all tables.

There is a lot to discover and I do not want to give to much away ;)

Well I'm a believer, just based off screenshots and the video I'm really excited for this one! I don't really agree that this seems like a kiddie game or anything, I mean to each their own, but I love games from Gears of War to Animal Crossing (hrmmm, that would be a great cross IP game!). In fact, one of the greatest benefits of playing video games to me is it has the ability to make me feel like a kid again, so sometimes the more "kiddie" like games are a good thing. And then you just go chainsaw somebody in half to get your testosterone levels back up ;) Either way, this game just looks downright fun! And that should be what's most important! Great stuff, can't wait!!

I'm looking forward to this, although I still want to see someone put out a really fun pinball game that's more authentic but fun like the Space Cadet 3D board that comes with WindowsXP. That game has a lot going on on the playfield and no really lame gutter outs. I like a board that's busy and gives you the impression of success because you're always racking up a lot of points and the ball interacts with a lot of things on the field before it ends up down at your flippers again.
imho Freeballin's maps are sparse and WWP has cheap outs. And Freeballin's feel isn't quite right either. I have those two and I still want for a good pinball game. I don't expect Monster Pinball to be authentic but it does look like it could be fun anyway and i might pick it up if/when it gets cheap enough (no idea what the launch price will be).
also i am glad to see you fit the boards on the screen without needing to move the camera.

I see where you're coming from about wanting a pinball more like the Windows one. WWP is amazing, but it ain't one of those pinballs. You should check out Pinball Casino Madness, it's "sort of" what you're looking for. The physics are a bit iffy, but not unplayable. It's not the fanciest ever, but it's got much more going on than WWP. And it's only $1 right now. Also Pinball Dreams is amazing, but it's $5 so not sure how committed you want to go. It's my second favorite pinball for sure.

I don't really mind the cheap drain outs in WWP, I mean at least we're not paying quarters to play it. Part of the fun is the excitement of having a really good game going and doing everything you can to keep it up. The cheap drain outs are almost enjoyable in a masochistic kind of way. Like dying in Rogue Touch, you laugh it off, grind your teeth a bit, and hop right back into it. I'm addicted to WWP, and this game looks freakin sweet as well. Oh and it's coming out for $3.99 with 6 tables, they said so a few pages back.

Pinball Casino Madness has a lot more action than Wild West Pinball and Freeballin'. Since the recent update, it is completely "playable," not like it was before. It has a lot of targets and bumpers, and also multi-ball. Sound effects, lights, and music are much better than just about any pinball in the app store. If you are interested, you should pick it up while it is still a buck...

IMHO the ZEN tables "Rollercoaster" and "Inferno" (for iDevices) are the most similar ones to the very well known Space Cadet (for Windows).

Ouch, it all makes sense now.

Imagine, for a second, if you were one of these App Store reviewers. You would likely try to convince your boss, "Hmmm, I really think I need to spend a little more time on this one, just to make sure nothing funky happens once all achievements are completed." You figure the second he lets this game through it's back to the standard toil of an endless barrage of slide puzzles and fart machine apps. :p

Wow, that sounds more like a nightmare! ;) It seems to be kind of a crap shoot with the approval process, I've seen devs post "just submitted to Apple, should be out in the next couple weeks" and then *presto* it appears the very next day. Then you'll see apps that are submitted and take over a month to come out. Seems like they should have some sort of streamlined system, but sadly that's not the case. Hopefully before the weekend though, I can't wait much longer!

No clue but you're STILL not listed in the AppStore here in the US.

Now playing a few more games, I love how you guys play around a lot with clever magnetic effects to repel and attract the ball on the various tables.

I sure would love to know the AMOUNT of a Bonus I receive when I get those "Bonus" messages. Since the game seems to be incrementing your score even when you hit nothing I have no idea what the relative values of the various objects are or what is needed to collect the various bonuses. For example, I just assume as a general rule that if I get the ball into a sinkhole on a table I currently have lit up many drop targets I'm PROBABLY getting a bigger value...but I really have no idea if the two are connected in any way.
