Hi, I need a complete walk through on how to jailbreak my iPhone because I have tried numerous times and each time it gets frozen on the loading screen, and I have to restore my iPhone and I lose every single piece of data on my phone, including all my apps, contacts ect. All my iPhone information is in the thread title so could somebody please explain to me what to do, because I really want to jailbreak my iPhone. Much appreciated.

I've just asked the same thing :)

And found this good site!

Hope that helps, in the process myself :)

I assume you do not want to unlock (allow use of other carriers (T-Mobile)), so in the tutorial just follow the instructions for not unlocking (using 2.2.1 firmware etc).

(I assume you are on Windows, but if not, the Mac version is below)

Just a personal preference, when you get to the step about adding Cydia/Installer/Boot Logo's(http://www.iclarified.com/images/tutorials/1881/8068/8068-500.png), only check the box for Cydia. Installer has very few packages, is not stable, and is now owned by a greedy company that does not care about its users. Cydia on the other hand is well maintained by its creator Jay Freeman, and also contains all of the most popular packages and is overall leaps and bounds past Installer. Boot logos are just pointless and unattractive, so I never use those.

If you need any additional help, post here with your problems or feel free to PM. Jailbreaking opens up an amazing realm of possibilities, it is truly great.

thank you for all your help everybody ive decided to go with ur link emb531 for windows, so far i held shift like it says and open the right link in the folder, and it has said preparing to restore and now its says restoring iphone software, and the screen on my phone is the apple logo with a little white progress bar, so far is everything going good and normal?

EDIT: let me also mention that the progress on itunes is alot farther then on the phone, i hope this is normal as well?

I am almost positive that you just do a restore from your last back-up, and all your data is returned but the jailbreak is still in place. I'd wait for confirmations as it's been a while since I did mine.

No you don't, you make it so that its a new iPhone, and then after its done, iTunes will put on your stuff :)
