One more day until this drops... it's gotten a solid 95% on RT so far!

Tickets are all sold out in my city until Sunday... should have pre-booked them. Grrrr.... oh well, MvC2 on the iOS is tending to my hunger quite well in the meantime :)

Why is it releasing a week late in the U.S. than it is internationally? Same thing happened a couple of weeks ago with Battleship...

In order by release date:

The Avengers - 5/04
The Dictator - 5/11
(?)Battleship - 5/18
(?)Men in Black 3 - 5/25
Madagascar 3 - 6/08
Prometheus - 6/08

Brave - 6/22

The Dark Knight Rises - 7/20
(?)The Bourne Legacy - 8/03

I might have left a few out, but these are the "biggest" releases I'm looking forward to until school starts again mid-August. The ones with a (?) mean I might not see them if they're rated terribly. The others I'll probably be seeing for sure either way.

Without spoiling anything...

The second half of the movie completely redeemed the somewhat odd pacing of the first. Lots of fantastic moments where the audience burst into a full state of laughter and applause. The SFX are amazing (as expected) and Tony Stark is still his good old neurotic self.

The Hulk completely and utterly stole the show. Enough said. Great movie - that's two movies which have highlighted this summer's releases perfectly so far (Battleship being the other).

Id disagree. The show was stolen by my favourite character going in but who i thought would be thrown aside quickly. Hawkeye was amazing and Id say has got some new fans after this movie. The balance of the film was done superbly because thats what I was most worried about with so many main characters in it.

It was quite good, I thought—and the potential for this concept to become the most laughable garbage was huge! Not an easy bullet to dodge, I would think. Joss Whedon has a way of making me appreciate things that otherwise bore me SO badly, from vampire-slaying to comic book movies.

It probably helped that I had already seen the Thor and Captain America films—which were just “OK.” Those two characters have maximum potential to just seem incredibly silly, but with some back story I accepted them. Especially Captain America’s ridiculous outfit, like something from a musical stage show in the 40s! Well, that was explained in his earlier movie—it WAS something from a musical stage show in the 40s. And the character himself didn’t like that. Clever way to make the super-cheesy seem slightly less cheesy.

If I saw the Avengers cold without seeing any prequels, it could have seemed a bit cheesier... but no less fun. Even the action scenes (in other words, most of the movie!) were great, and I have little patience for the soulless action they churn out these days.

I even knew to stay to the very end and see both little added credits scenes.

I saw one movie with DBOX seats (the latest Pirates of the Caribbean) and they just felt really distracting. The theater near me puts them in this weird corner in a big glass box and the whole thing just took me out of the movie. I wouldn't recommend them.

Also, this a Marvel movie, there are always videos after the credits. This time, however, there are 2.

Yeah, especially with the little wing graphics on the side. Cap didn't seem to do much except lead the Avengers (which Stark was doing as well). I just remember him taking down a few badies and getting hurt in the end.

I think too much. It just occurred to me to wonder where they stashed Loki while eating shawarma since they clearly were going to deal with the former before the latter. And yet Thor was in the post-credits scene, which must therefore be a flashback since he hadn’t vanished with Loki yet. I bet Loki was tied to a bike rack outside the joint, unable to have any shawarma because of that magic muzzle thing.

That scene happens afterthe battle is over. Notice the cleaning crew in the back, and the fact that each hero is battle-worn. Thor and Loki go back to Asgard after the shawarma scene.

Just got back from seeing it. The Avengers didn't disappoint. Found the first half to be way too slow though. Surprised at how powerful Hawkeye and Black Widow were. Enjoyed the comedy that Hulk and Downey Jr. brought. My favorite part was Hulk's encounter with Loki near the end, lmao. I didn't think the second scene after the movie was worth staying for. Anyways, looking forward to Marvel's 2013 films. For now, I'm expecting The Dark Knight Rises to surpass The Avengers xP. Great way to start off the summer though. Agree with you in everything except I think you will find Battleship very disappointing it's one film I was looking forward to for ages and basicly got completely bored by.

Already saw it? Yeah, I'm definitely not sure about Battleship. I still find its "source material" hilarious. We'll see though I guess.

I think The Avengers probably had the best effects out of all the Marvel movies. The 3D actually felt like it was worth it. The Dark Knight Rises has a lot riding on it. Everyone who saw the last one has been waiting for it. One of the reasons (that I am almost positive) The Avengers did so well, was because it had the Hulk and Captain America in it. Which in turn attracted little kids to the theaters, who had their mommy and daddy bring them, which would then have the parents watch the movie, and they would tell their friends about it.

Batman is a very dark character. Kids like him, but they see Hulk and they go crazy. I think TDKR will do well, but I fear it won't fair as well as The Avengers, only because The Avengers had more kid appeal.

Yeah. Superman is too generic- it doesn't help that he was one of the first superheros though. Green Lanturn is really tacky- used to like him when I watched Justice League. The biggest problem I have with DC superheros is that most of them have a tacky kind of cheesy feel.

I'm hoping this is building up to a Teen Titans movie for one reason and one reason only... Starfire on screen!!! =)

Yeah, plus he doesn't need any superpowers to be a superhero!! "I'm Batman!!"

As Avengers is truly one of awesome movie. I really like this flick so much because of the action sequences of this movie are really heart touching. It's completely amazing. It's truly one of perfect source to see the incredible super heroes in one place.

Saw this the other day and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I'm very critical of 'superhero' films but the Avengers really nailed it for me. The exceptional Downey-Junior makes the Ironman character facinating to watch, but I thought, in general, the acting was good all-round.

The humour was witty and plentiful, a few hilarious Hulk scenes ;) ....maybe the buildup was a bit slow, but I was pretty engrossed in the story, and when the action did come it was relentless!

9/10 for me

More like this:

The Dark Knight > Batman Begins > The Avengers > Iron Man > X-Men: First Class

Yeah, it's crazy 'cause the two highest grossing movies of all time are James Cameron films. (Avatar and Titanic)

Stop watching new movies until you see Avatar, omg, lol. If you're a fan of Hollywood's big-hitters (you are if you're in this thread), Avatar is THE movie to see.

^This^ +1

Seriously, I'm not your typical "Joe-I-Like-Everything-Big-And-Shiny" guy (I'm looking at you, Michael "More Explosions!" Bay;)), but Avatar blew my mind.

It's been a long time since I have quite literally lost track of time during the entirety of a film... And the use of IMAX? Wow. Perfect.

I actually have no interest in seeing Avatar, from what I heard it's ok, but one of the reasons it sold so well was because it was pretty much the first movie that did 3D right.

I might get around to seeing it, but for the time being, I don't have any plans to.

If you're not into the story (I wasn't particularly) and you can't see it on the big screen, I wouldn't bother...

I've seen it several times and yes, it is visually impressive, but the story is a bit generic and Sigourny Weaver can't act and Stephen Lang (and Michelle Rodriguez for that matter) is always pidgin holed into the same character. The only star in the movie that showed any acting talent was Zoe Saldana, without her the movie would have been awful. Was it a good movie, yes, was it the best, no. The only saving grace the the whole thing was the visual experience and Zoe's role.

Agreed. Personally, I don't know how interested I'd even be in watching it again at home. In the theater? Sure. The story was a bit of the old, "same old same old," but visually? Yeah, it was pretty good visually.;):)

Avatar isn't bad. It's definitely one of the most visually impressive movies I've ever seen- though I wouldn't say it's amazing (overall). The first time you watch it, it's really enjoyable and you get really pulled into it. The second time you watch it though- you get really bored, and realize how bleh it really is. Each time you watch it, it just gets more and more old, and you realize how tacky/bad some of the acting and lines of dialogue are. I've only seen it like 4 times (twice all the way through), and I can honestly say that I don't have any desire to watch it again. Inception though... Love that movie. Another visually impressive movie- though it's not 3D.

Avatar is ultimately like Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It's awesome when you watch it in a movie theater, but when you watch it at home, you realize that it kind of... Well... Sucks. Not horrible, but not really that great of a movie beyond the special effects.

Just skip Avatar and watch Inception if you haven't seen either (just kidding!)
