This one features the 'Challenge Mode'...and I promised in an earlier thread that I'd get you guys some more redeem codes. Quick note, if you manage to beat the 'Checkerboard' challenge...post the picture. I've gotten close, but still no luck after 500 tries!!
Here's the link for Symbolism (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=303497068&mt=8) if you don't get a redeem code. There is also a Lite version. :)

I can't make too many promises for 3.0 features right now because we have so many requests from people. But, in tandem with OpenFeint 2.0, we're going to be adding a slew of cool new features. Things like....more challenges....hint button...undo button (50/50 chance), better store interface, powerups, unlockables...and more. :)

Whoa, sounds cool although I hope the "Undo" function is severely limited OR AT LEAST carries some big repercussions.

I agree. Here was my idea.
The hint button is a program option that can be disabled. Then there are two possibilities:
1) Time based:
- The hint button is only active for 2 seconds after you place a piece.
- For those two seconds, tapping the board anywhere will undo the placement.
- For those two seconds, the next tile doesn't show up.
- For those two seconds, tapping the spot where the next tile normally shows will commit the move and show the next tile.
2) Touch based:
- After you put a piece down, you need to tap again in the same spot to confirm placement. Tapping anywhere else undoes the placement.
- The next tile is not shown until you confirm the first tile.
I like both of these because having an undo is not a help in terms of seeing the next piece so you don't need to be penalized for a slip of the finger.
I sent Andrew the time based idea directly, but I think I actually like the double-tap better.

Cool, D/Ling now... have to say I've found it to be a really challenging puzzle game so it's really captivated me the more and more I play it. I'm ashamed to say I haven't been able to beat level 1 yet!
Based on v1 I'd love to see(hear) some nice sound FX in the game and even the smallest amount of animation would help polish presentation. Animated tiles as they're placed (maybe flipping over) and something when a row is completed (domino effect?) which will really give the player a sense of accomplishment.
Another gametype that would be interesting is a dynamic mode... maybe you have a countdown timer that changes colors or symbols as it countsdown, either randomly or say all of one color or type of symbol. Again, with animation it could be a cool even with tiles flipping over with a heavy stone moving sound ala Indiana Jones.

Once I figured out that you can replace tiles on cleared rows I was able to clear the board a couple times on easy. This game is great. Though I used a promo code to download it, I would definitely pay $.99 knowing how good of a game it is. Thanks

Maybe, but there are over 6000 active users on this forum and more that read post and don't sign in to their accounts (if they have one)
It's just odd for me to see promo codes that last for more than an hour I guess.

It is a great game but it sure doesn't look "sexy" from the screenshots (clearly he needs to show a scantily clad female in front of a MASSIVE explosion for the title screen) and, I have to admit, Drew has been VERY generous with the free promos on this game so, yeah, those most interested probably already have it.

A review:
Symbolism is an Alchemy clone (and a close one at that, using almost identical symbols, colors, and gameplay).
This is a good thing.
Symbolism is played on a board where you place tiles next to other tiles. A tile may only be placed next to a tile of the same symbol, or shape. When you successfully place tiles across an entire row or column, it disappears, leaving you with blank squares. If you can fill the entire board with blank squares or placed symbols, you win that level. If you discard too many pieces in a row, you lose.
The original Alchemy came with one board, and added colors and symbols over time. Symbolism takes a good flash game and turns it into a fantastic iPhone game by keeping the same mechanics and adding multiple difficulty levels, timed mode, and a challenge mode where some tiles are already inconveniently placed for you, creating difficult situations you must emerge from.
Symbolism is a highly cerebral game. The placement (or choice to discard) each tile can have significant consequences down the road. Poor choices - and sometimes, poor luck - can lead to disaster, as you face multiple squares surrounded by incompatible tiles.
Thankfully, Symbolism slightly lessens the difficulty of the original Alchemy by allowing you to use points earned in your previous games to purchase items (like 'clear row' or 'clear square') to help you out of dire situations you run into. In effect, you get more powerful as you play and build up a healthy store of points with which to buy yourself some help.
All in all, this is a fantastic game, and it's well worth your time. There aren't any puzzle games quite like it, and as far as I know, this is your only option for Alchemy on the iPhone. Thankfully, it's also a great option, and the additions are welcome newcomers to a great gameplay formula.
