View Full Version : Jailbreak apps affecting core apps

I was running a jailbroken iPhone some months ago, but noticed Safari would hang repeatedly and I needed to hard reboot the iPhone several times a day. (This was not necessary prior to jailbreaking.)
I recently jailbroke my unit again and now have a total of 2 full "pages" of apps installed. Somewhere along the line here Safari began losing touch responsiveness. After a bit of use, touching the screen does nothing in Safari. A hard reset is needed to get back in business, but then it happens again.
I wonder what the affending app / combination of apps is?
I wonder how extensively Apple will test apps registering to be placed in the iTunes App Store for this kind of thing? Will they use a "super (real or virtual) iPhone" that is capable of loading every app in the store onto it simultaneously to see how things pan out?

what did you use to jailbreak your iPhone? i'm guessing that might be the problem...

I had these problems on 1.1.4 as well, jailbroken with ZiPhone.

Kind of unrelated, but ...
When I upgraded to 2.1 I was THRILLED at how quickly apps loaded. Two days later I used QuickPwn to jailbreak, and immediately noticed that everything was a little more sluggish - not 2.0.X sluggish, but not as fast as 2.1 vanilla.
Yesterday afternoon I was checking out Installer, added community sources, and then it crashed when I exited. I experienced my first ALoD on 2.1, which kinda made me angry. I was at work, so I downloaded and installed iTunes real quick, and restored my phone. WOW - once more, it was speedy. When I got home I restored again (yeah yeah, whatever. I didn't like having my firmware loaded from a garbage WinXP machine at work) and installed a bunch of apps, all my media, etc. Still, quick - noticeably faster than my QuickPwned installation.
So, take it FWIW. I'm sticking with my heinous vanilla 2.1 - as much as I desperately want WinterBoard, I'll take a responsive UI over a pretty one any day (though it really sucks that we have to choose one or the other) ...

I have been running 2.1 custom firmware made by Pwnage Tool. It has been super quick with everything running fine.
I have lots of applications both from the app store and from cydia (totalling 5 1/2 pages) with no problems whatsoever. I have heard some people have had problems with Quickpwn.
What non-app store applications do you have installed?

I guess the only solution to this is only to install applications that you will really be using. I've been using Winterboard but that really slows down the iPod Touch. I ended up uninstalling it because I didn't really need it.

That's why you shouldn't jailbreak it unless you're totally sure what you'll be doing. I'm definitely not going to jailbreak anytime soon, or in the future.

I jailbroke mine with quickpwn 2.2 and my iPhone 2g is as fast and responsive as ever. I have 8 pages of apps installed, and safari is just as fast as ever.
