Are there any dangers as a consumer of an unlocked phone?
Can these phones be taken to Apple for service?

Indeed, at the Millennium mall in Orlando, an 8 GB unlocked model was selling at $800. At a licensed store.

Dangers, well, you never really know what the guy did to the phone, if he did correctly, what process, if there're any bugs in the system.

And no, Apple won't service anything jailbroken.

Yes, but they will service it if you restore before you show it to them.

Pros:
Worth more.
More demand.

Cons:
No warranty from Apple.
Lack of visual voicemail.
