I didn't see another thread for this. Koi Pond (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=286420263&mt=8) been the Top Paid App ($0.99) in the store for a while now and I wanted to see who else has had fun with this! It's a simulated koi pond with about 5 different patterned koi fish. You can choose one of four pool floors, amount of lily pads, amount of fish (0 up to ~6), and a mixture of background nature sounds. When you run your finger across the water (screen), ripples spread from your fingertip. Koi swim away and return after a few moments. You can shake the iphone to add some fish food which the koi eat.

It's quite relaxing and well done. The koi wander in and out of the screen, the iphone screen edges act like boundaries for the surface ripples so they bounce quite realistically. The authors (Blimp Pilots) haven't put in interacting shadows but I imagine that it would be a pain to implement 3-d fish. It also doesn't seem to support multi-touch. But they've already updated their program once since release so I expect they'll keep making changes!

Anyone else bought it?

I didn't realize you could feed them...more fun!

It's also a good noise machine (limited numbers compared to ambiance and asleep).

I actually "play" this once a day. it's just nice to relax a bit.

Fact: If you stick your finger in a koi pond the fish will swim up and investigate

Hmm, wonder what happens if I hold my finger still while playing koi pond...

Relaxing sounds: wind, birds, frogs, insects and just recently added rain/thunder.

Also, swiping your finger across the pond will produce a very realistic sound and visuals of ripples.

Best get it!

Why choose Koi Pond over Fish Bling Bling?

I actually love this game... i think it was one of the first games i bought for my iPhone, and i'll be honest... i got SO excited the other day when an update came out... I don't use it that much, BUT it's a great app to show to other people... one of those show off apps... it's great for all ages and experience.. yeah you'd want to show Cube or whatever to your PSP friends, but Koi Pond is a great all-around winner...

it would be cool if you had more control over the water environment, but i love the addition of rain! I'm glad the developer continues to support the 'game.'

it's one of those apps where you'll go to it just for fun, which is nice because there's no high score to worry about, just check in with your fish, change the lighting or lily pads, and then move on with your day...

Five star app... it succeeds in what it attempts to achieve.

It's ok. I don't open it often, but it's one of the first apps I show people, so it's pretty cool I guess...

Fish Bling Bling (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=298051834&mt=8) is a real-time simulation game. The fishes continue to live even when the game is turned off.

Recommended for fans of Koi Pond that want virtual pet-like features or those who enjoy simulation games in general.

Features:
- 20 varieties of koi to discover.
- Realistic water. Have fun making splashes and ripples.
- Shake to drop colorful fish foods.
- Buy fish eggs from fish store and nurture them from fry to matured.
- Fish breeds valuable coins and precious stones such as ruby, sapphire, emerald, and diamond.
- Fishes with higher Bling Power will produce more valuable stones. Take care of the fishes to improve their Bling Power.
- Scrolling map.
- 3 pond settings based on actual time: day (6am to 6pm), evening (6pm to 12am) and night (12am to6am).
- Relaxing atmosphere.

Reason to get Koi Pond over the other one mentioned is that the other one looks like a cheapo knock-off. That's all I can say, judging from the pictures as I haven't purchased it.

That's all I can say, judging from the pictures as I haven't purchased it.Koi Pond isn't the first virtual fish application ever made you know, just the first made in the AppStore. Never mind that nothing is original anymore anyway, so a "cheapo knock off" doesn't mean much to me. Should we all only buy Bejeweled and not any other match 3 type game too? ^ ^

In Fish Bling Bling you get to buy your own fish, name them and watch them grow from a baby fish. As the fish grow older, they attract more cash to the pond and you can use that to buy more fish.

In comparison, Koi Pond seems to have a detachment from the Koi that swim around.

So I'm curious, does anyone have both that can give the pros and cons of each in comparison to each other?

See Fish Bling Bling Thread (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=3882&highlight=bling)

EDIT: not much to be gleaned from that thread.

I'm not saying Blimp Pilots came up with the concept of Koi, but I'm saying FBB lacks polish that Koi Pond certainly has - or at least it looks it from the screenshots.

I personally love the sound, and realistic physics of Koi Pond, and as I said before - it's super polished. Honestly, I'm not interested in naming the fish or paying to have more of them, then see them swim around in nickels and dimes, if that's what you're looking for then Koi Pond might not be for you, it's more of an app with certain level of interaction to allow you relax a bit.

well here's my experienced take:

it was worth $0.99 when i bought it months and months ago, and its' value has only increased as the updates have come out... i think it is definitely worth $0.99, but you have to know what you're getting into before you purchase, otherwise you may get let down! Fair though, right?

Koi Pond is one of those apps you break out to show off the iPhone. The app gets updated about every 4 months. Well worth 99 cents, but there isn't much to do but feed fish, watch them swim, make ripples with your finger, put your finger on the screen and watch as the fish come up and nibble on it.

This is as old as the app store, how are some of you still unaware of this app?

that's how i feel about it too.. it's got to have some record for the duration spent in the top rated lists.. i wonder how much the dev/apple have made off this application alone?

I feel like if i had a brand new iPhone/iTouch today, i'd still buy it because it's been around for so long... it's definitely one of those that you let other people play with to show off your device... no score, no winners or losers..

It's an OK app, I just use it when I'm bored. Just driving my finger through the water for 5 minutes... :P The visuals are nice so I like looking at it.

Seems that people get quickly disappointed with Koi Pond because they have ideas that it's a 'game'. The fact that we are talking about it on TA is proof of that. But it's in the Entertainment section of the iTunes store! Personally, I love Koi Pond for what it is.....Splish Splash:)

I agree that this app is the one to show off. A few people ask me whats so great about the Touch (yea....theres still a couple left like that) and I pull this app/game up and most are simply amazed at the water effect. A great *wow factor* app/game to keep onto the phone....even still.
