I have a 2G iPhone OS 2.2.1 jailbroken with QuickPWN. It was working fine. I decided to upgrade to 3.0 in iTunes using a restore for a clean install. The install failed in iTunes who knows why, but the iPhone appeared to be updating - the Apple logo was there and the progress bar moved. Now the iPhone shows the Connect to iTunes screen. When I try to restore I get a failed error (13). I have tried everything from uninstalling iTunes and going to an older version with the original 2.2.1 firmware. I tried using QuickPWN, WinPwn, and redsn0w to get the iPhone responding.... no luck. When I put it in DFU mode and connect to iTunes and try to restore it still fails. I have read forums and posts and tried everything. The only other option is trying it on a friends PC.
Anyone have any other suggestions? I don't thin kit is totally spent because I get the Connect to iTunes screen and in iTunes it says my software is current but my iPhone is in recovery mode.
This is what I get for saying you can't brick an iPhone. D'OH!

QuickPWN crashes as the iPhone is at 3.0 software. When I connect to iTunes it says software up to date but the iPhone is in recover mode. This is why I tried to re-jailbreak with redsn0w, but that freezes also. Like I said, I tried everything!

I think that I have had this issue before and what I did was when the error popped up, I think there was the usual ok and a help link. I clicked the help link and it brought me to the apple support site and gave me a list of solutions. I just went down the list trying things. I think the thing that worked after all was rebooting which I completely spaced.
Here is the link: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
Try all those and I suspect it will work.
EDIT: Oh and as I have painfully found out, usually the best solution is to calm down and come back at it when you are much more clear-headed.

Yeah, cloudy headed at 2:30 am I gave up... trying on a different PC today. I doubt it is totaly bricked because I get the connect to itunes screen. I am not freaking out yet, but I am getting worried. I tried everything on that Apple support link. I have the iPhone in DFU mode and still nothing works. Hopefully PC#2 will do the trick. Otherwise the wife is getting a new 3G.

All fixed - I had to restore it from a different PC. So something must be wrong with my iTunes or something. Now when I try to restore from back-up to get the phone data back it crashes iTunes. Is there a way to move the back-up data to another PC?
This is driving me nuts!

Super fix!
DON'T USE FRONT USB PORTS ON PC.
Anyone know this? Once I went to the back USB port all my problems went away. iPhone is now running jailbroken 3.0 and fully restored.
Wow - do you all know how much time I wasted due to using the stupid front USB ports????

Wow, that is surprising, I wonder if that is a hard and fast rule on iphones, or if you have an issue with your USB ports. Either way I wont be using those, and nice problem solving! :D

Ironically, I was switching to the back ports while on the phone with Apple support to see if I could move my back-up to another PC. Just as the lasy was asking me what the problem was I had moved to the back port and tried to restore one last time. I could instantly tell it was working. I felt like an idiot and had nothing to say to the Apple rep other then, "Never mind, I am a dope"
I think the issue is my crappy PC. The front USB ports aren't as strong as the back ones. My PC at work is better, and the front ports work fine.

Yep, I bet the front ones aren't the highspeed 2.0 things and something lower than that which causes issues. I had a computer with no highspeed ones anywhere and it was a complete hassle to install highspeed ones.
