I buy iTunes gift certificates...That way i know my budget and I don't overspend if I know I only have x amount of dollars left as a credit.
To help offset this, I go to my friendly local CoinStar machine and dump all my change i've collected (for this purpose) into it, and retrieve the proceeds as an iTunes card.
Most recently, after only a few months of change, I got about $25 at a Coinstar, and there's no charge to count it if your proceeds are turned into gift cards.
I recommend this technique for anyone who needs to budget their App store expenses! Seriously, take all the change you find to a coinstar, even if you only get $5, that pays for several $1 games or even the big $5 game you've been saving for!
