I'm not a particularly big fan of memory games but Flipn' Monsters really brings something new to this genre and I find this game pretty addicting and fun. The game is extremely polished and it is easy to tell that the developers spent a lot of time on the game.

Flipn' Monsters has two modes; Classic and Arcade. Classic is just like a normal memory game where all the cards start face down and you have to tap them to flip them over. You have to match them in pairs in the fastest time possible. Where Flipn' Monsters really shines is in it's Arcade Mode. In this mode you are shown where the cards are to start with and you have to match them in pairs. What's really different about this mode is that it puts a bit of the Bejeweled formula into the mix, since as you match cards they fall down from the top which means that you can easily forget where each card is and makes it more of a challenge. Once you have matched all of the cards on the screen you move onto the next round where more cards are slowly added. Each round a slowly decreasing amount of time is added to your timer and you lose when you run out of time.

The graphics for Flipn' Monsters are another place where this game shines. The graphics look amazing and make playing this game a great experience. If this game had boring graphics it would really dim the gameplay but the cute monsters keep it interesting and fun. There are a total of 9 different types of monsters all of which look wonderful. There are also animations for the cards turning over which are smooth and look really nice. Have a look at the developers video below to see the graphics and animation:

The SFX and music for Flipn' Monsters are also pretty good. It's got a great soundtrack which suits the game but is, admittedly, a little short and gets a little boring as it keeps looping. Then SFX are good although I would like to hear perhaps a scream or creaking in the background every so often.

The controls are very simple and responsive. You can pause the game at any point although you can't resume if you exit. This isn't much of a problem though because I've played through every game I've started because it's surprisingly addictive.

There isn't much wrong with Flipn' Monsters although there are a few things I'd like to see added. At the moment I can only see my highscore after I finish a game so a local and online highscore board would be nice. The option to turn off the music and SFX would also be good as well as a screen flip option for the iPod Touch since at the moment I have to play with the headphone jack sticking into my hand. It would also be good if there were difficulty levels added to the game as well as some achievements to add some depth. Also in the video the monsters are animated so it would be really cool if that was some how incorporated into the game.

Overall Flipn' Monsters is a memory game that brings something new and fun to the genre. It has amazing graphics, good music and is extremely addictive. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys simple, casual and addictive games without too much depth. Flipn' Monsters is currently a solid 4/5.
