Ah, the summer. It's my holidays now, and I have lots of time to burn. Now, it's my choice to choose how to burn it. Will I light it with a match and burn it slowly, having quality time, or throw petrol all over it and set it alight with a huge explosion of cheap thrills. Well, so far I've had a bit of a mixed bag. At the start I went and had a rather strange day out with some of my friends, then buying a strange book of jokes and a heap of apps. The apps that I have purchased so far include Rolando 2, MoonDrop and Zombies vs. Sheep. That's also a bit of a mixed bag, two Pick-up and Play games and a single 'Full Game' (Which is MoonDrop, of course :p).
Now I've tried something a little in between. Treasure Grab was reccomended to me as 'a game I would probably like'. I went into it with that attitude, and have thankfully retained that attitude since. The concept is simple, you, a thief, have to steal as many things from the mansions of the rich in a certain time. Guards will be chasing you around, or more likely, talking to each other about 'Bob' while you steal the Tome of Secrets or something. Changing this simple concept into something a little more complex, you are given a little smiley-helper who can do helpful things to get you along in your dastardly deeds.
So, I'll start with the controls. Maybe a little hard at first, the controls work decently. My first impression was 'Oh no...', when I was finding my character fairly unresponsive. It didn't take me long to master the controls though, and no longer was I smashing my face into a wall while trying to open a door (well, not that often). To steal something, you don't have to tap it, because the developers probably realised that would require a) a lot of tapping, or b) a lot less objects. Just walk up to it and move onto it and it will be yours! To open doors, walk into them and they'll magically open. Some doors require lock-picking, which opens a little screen where you have to do a little mini-game as such to open the door. Opening locked doors however will slow you down quite a bit, which you won't like, but the guards will. It all works quite well.
The aforementioned guards make this game especially fun. If they weren't there, it would just be a silly game of Dale's Supermarket Sweep. As you progress along, causing the mansion owners incredible stress as their cutlery disappears, more and more guards appear to protect the rich people's bookcases. Marked with red arrows around the edges of the screen, the guards are the only threat to stop your pillage of doom. I say the only threat, but the maids dotted around the mansion will call all the guards to come running if they see you. Generally, your smiley friend will help you get rid of those pesky guards. Particularly the one which disguises you as a maid. I just permenantly use it, as it gives the best feel of a stealth game. Despite all the stealth, the game is at its most fun when all the guards are in a line chasing you through the mansion while you are still stealing chairs.
The graphics are in 2D retro-style, and it looks great. They vary from big pictures of the characters talking to one another or posing in front of their mansion to the gameplay where the retro-ness remains in tact. Even the loading and saving bars look like they just came from a time warp. It's a pleasure to play and kind on the eyes. However I'm not sure what'll happen when I fully clear all the mansions and finish Challenge Mode. Guess I'll just have to find out.
Well, what can I say? This game is a 'steal' at its price.
