But it's practical. It has a "security fart" function that sounds when someone moves your phone.

that would be fun to turn on, then casually walk around the office with it in your pocket...

Pull My Finger is getting all of those "important features" and more. Its certianly the best fart app out there.

Still confused on how a fart app got to be #1. People will figure out that they are just novelties, so it won't last long.

Speaks volumes about our society and what kind of people/children are buying apps. Please tell me that any of you who are over 30 years old would never consider this.
In fact, let me lower my standards and say if you're under 25, you wouldn't consider this...but I'm probably wrong, and hence why this is "an interesting social commentary", or a sad social commentary, take your pick. :o

Wow you people take things so seriously. I mean its $.99, and I figured I'd see what the big deal was. Its really dumb and immature, but funny for a minute or 2.

Hate to just post this link and go, but the link itself is pretty interesting read:

That dude just made $13,000 USD in one day.

Actually he only got about 9K out of it, but still... :p

I think that was posted on Macrumors too.

I think this app is hilarious - and I'm over 25 years old.

The old fart machine of the 90' was great during High School! Don't tell me you guys wouldn't plant the thing under other students desk and then set it off during class? That couldn't have been just me? .... the good old days...

I dunno. It's hard to dethrone an app once it gets so high. I agree that individuals might get sick of it and delete it to save screen space, memory, etc., but, with Wal-Mart selling the iPhone starting tomorrow, and potential new models at MacWorld in a week, the audience just keeps growing. And they're gonna see the #1 app on iTunes and, for $.99, it's a small price to pay.

They became #1 from all the publicity they recieved. Think about it. Apple denied the apps from the app store, and so the developers told people about that. Then after a few months, Apple decides it'd be a good idea to release them, and so lots of websites start talking about how Apple changed their minds and they may be letting up on the rules a little bit.

Plus it's a buck and it's pretty easy for cheap app to get high on the top 100 as long as people really like it (it's easier than a $10 game, anyway).

There is an overwhelmingly small chance of new iPhones or iPod Touches at Macworld. So no fear there. Walmart, you get like $3 off, and a horrible signup/upgrade process. I would pay the $3 and go to an Apple/AT&T store.
