Awesome. Wonder why ng:moco delayed it

i think they delayed it so that dropships could have sometime as the best NGmoco game so they would make money out of dropships. It got through the apple review system ages ago.

That's probably why.
Though I wouldn't put rolando in
direct competition with dropship because dropship
is a budget game and the mainstream audience
wouldn't think twice about buying that whereas
rolando is a premium product that one would have
to think seriously before buying a 10$ app.

P.S: A lot of people are forgetting that ngmoco is a partner. Handcircus was the orginal dev of Rolando

Never tried Loco roco, but according to everyone else it's the perfect type game for iPhone?... All I know is NGMOCO kicks some serious @ss right now, and I love all their games so far...

mmmmh I don't know if the question has already been asked, but I wonder how can the developers know the day their game will be released...

I mean, they know when the game is submitted, not when it will appear in the store...

I'm with you on that 1, spent far too much on apps this month, but we'll see. If the reviews are good, i'll probably cave. It does look really good though!

They submit it early, so Apple tells them it's been accepted, then they set the release date

And here's the ad from PocketGamer, I think this is legit, I mean I've never seen that exact graphic from ngmoco before, and the font/design/and structure of the art is exactly the same. Only makes sense they sent out the ad themselves to generate even more hype. Makes sense too, Dr. Awesome on 12/4, Dropship 12/11, and Rolando 12/18, all a week apart

Rolando, like so many other games it seems, could benefit from user made levels on a server, similar to Cube Runner. Dropship would be even better if ngmoco made a Mac/PC level creator, save as .txt files, and update Dropship to interpret the files. Please, take a tip out of Andy Qua's playbook, and make your apps have this immense level of replayability.

Similar. Not quite that, though. I mean they give you instructions to create a level, and you make it. For example in Cube Runner, you can simply create a text file, and use that, but they also give basic premade segments, which wouldn't be needed in Rolando.

i.e. for a simple level. the x's indicate a surface. Very simple, but just to demonstrate the idea.

Your statement makes no sense. What is fake about the poster, and why would PocketGamer, a clearly legitimate and well standing website, have any reason to make false claims? The comment on the bottom is from someone who works at G4, a television channel which reviews games (used to be TechTV), who probably lives in California and went to the demo or saw the game in action somehow. And there is absolutely no evidence of it being released Monday, the only date posted before was the 12th

I just e-mailed Simon @ handcircus and asked about the size of the levels. (I also mentioned we're wondering about the price and release date but I don't assume to get an answer on that).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXBNn4YUtVU
and
http://www.handcircus.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/w2_rescue_party_screen1.png
show what *could* be a full level, but I think that the screenshot (second link) has more at the right side (considering that the rotating yellow things don't completely fit on the screen).

I'm on my iPod touch so I can't paste the exact reply from Simon, but the main points:

Variety in level size since some focus on puzzle solving and some on platform challenge.
Some early levels in the first world are relatively short as they serve as tutorial.
Levels get "much more substantial with larger play-areas".
The YouTube video shows the final 25-30% of the Spikey's Quest level.
Even the most compact levels can take a while (brain teasers).
No details on price/release date, just "more information this week on the ngmoco and handcircus blog".

Here is the email, some good info for sure

From: Simon Oliver <simon@handcircus.com>
Date: Sun, 14 Dec 2008 20:49:57 +0000
Subject: Re: Rolando question
To: *********

Hey Stefan,

There's quite a lot of variety in terms of level size, as some focus
more on puzzle-solving, while others are more expansive levels filled
with platform challenges. Some of the earlier levels in world 1 are
relatively compact as they act as a tutorial, introducing new
mechanics, but as the game progresses the levels become much more
substantial with larger play-areas. The youtube video only shows the
final section of the Spikey's Quest level (so probably around 25-30%
of that level in total). Even the more compact levels can take a while
to complete as there are some real brain-teasers :)

I can't go into too much specifics just yet, but there will definitely
be lots of information this week on the ngmoco and handcircus blog s.

Cheers!

Simon

Should be a very interesting week!

Via ngmoco's Twitter
(http://twitter.com/ngmoco)
Neil:Rolando is coming December 18th, 2008 & we'll be announcing a very special promotion soon to celebrate it's impending release.

spmwinkel
12-15-2008, 12:13 AM
I *REALLY* hope that it doesn't involve promo codes, since only US people can take advantage of it and I'm getting a bit tired of it. (Of course I can't blame developers, just Apple, and I'm sure that if I'd be in the US I wouldn't get tired of promo codes *at all*.)

On the other hand, if it involves some kind of introduction discount, then that will probably seal the deal for me. In the beginning I thought "Hmm probably a $10 game, so I won't get it as an early adopter", but now that Simon took away my doubts about the game length, an introduction discount could be the last thing I need to change my mind.
