View Full Version : Your Reasons For Not Jailbreaking?

Many of the people on TA do not have a jailbroken ipod/iphone. Care to say why? I see threads like that one about rpg's or the one about quake and just think "why not jailbreak"? I myself have a jailbroken phone that runs as smooth as my friends jailed one, so i see no reason for someone not to have a jailbroken phone. Care to share your thoughts.

I have a jailbroken phone too and sometimes I wonder the same things. It runs the same so why not jailbreak?

I ask myself this question once a month. I bought my 2g iPhone actually jailbroken, and then I returned it to factory. I can't say why for sure, mainly because it was the same week the app store launched, and I wanted to check it out. Now I'm no stranger to "modding" I have done it all from psp to my wii. I'm farily sure I could jailbreak this baby again if I wanted to, but I will admit if I did I would get some free games, and well for some reason I really really want the app store to succeed in terms of a viable gaming platform with the iPhone. While most jailbreakers may not steal there are a ton who do... And well TBH I would cry if the iPhone went the way of my favorite gaming console ever the sega dreamcast. I bootlegged games and all my friends did and guess what?... 2 years later they abandoned it.

Well right now I have a 2G iPod Touch so I can't. But even if a jailbreak is released I dont think I will jailbreak. Its just one more thing to worry about. I dont want to have to hope that I wont have to restore. My iPod runs amazing and I want to keep it that way. I used to have my old iPod jailbroken in 2.0 awhile ago. It was fun at first but the only app I used was MxTube. And I dont want people around here to think I use cracked apps. I know some people on ipod touch forums think if you have a jailbroken 2.x device then you use cracked apps. Now I also know a lot of people that jailbreak dont use cracked apps. But I want to be looked at as a "clean" iPod Touch user. Not one who has never payed for an app or thinks its cool to pirate things. Thats basically it.

iPod Touch 2G here, but even if/when they do jailbreak it, I won't bother. No point, since I don't need anything that jailbreaking provides, and it's one more hassle...if I was going to play Quake, I'd play it on my computer.

For me, I just don't see the point.
If you're really into modding (which I'm obviously not into), I can understand.
For me, the only reason I'd ever jailbreak is for the themes, to jazz up my Touch a bit, but other than that, there's really no need.
Now with an App Store, I have to say there's really no debate for me any more

I did for about 3 hours. And then my iPhone acted erratic so I restored it.
Stability is my main priority.

I will once it comes out... Only for the emulators though, and maybe themes

I thought about jailbreaking my 3G iphone before as I thought, I won't be able to buy games etc. But, since there's the App store and I can buy games or software, why bother?
I like it, the way it is. Unless, there's really some compelling, ground breaking, out-of-the-world apps and games, I will totally do it. If not, I won't then.
Unless, you guys want to donate me your iphone then, definitely, I'll do it!
he he! :D

My top reasons for jailbreaking my Iphone 3G:
1. TETHERING (PdaNet) must must must have!
2. Themes
3. Cycorder
4. LockDown (passcode lock ANY individual app)
5. Cracked apps! (tsk tsk)
Really there are so many more reasons that it would be rediculous to try and list them all. I've found that most of my friends were scared to jailbreak because they did not realize that the process is completely reversible. I can't imagine going back to living with Apple's severe limitations on this incredible piece of hardware.

I have an iPhone 3G and I don't know how to jailbreak it. Also am scared about messing it up... and I think that is about it... oh and also if I jailbreak it now... I still have my AT&T contract to be locked down to.

As for me, 2G Touch firstly. And secondly, the only reason why I would is ScummVM, nothing else. And that's not a big enough reason for me to do so on it's own.

Well I did have my iPhone 3G jailbreaked but after it ran smoothly for a week, it started to crash all the time... not loading applications and just being a big pain in the ass. Maybe I will try again in the near future since 2.2 has been released.

Well I prefer my iPod Touch 2nd gen to be a virgin. Although jailbreaking DOES provide extra features and may unleash the full potential of iPod Touch, I would not dare to do so as I'm not an experience user myself. Unless I know which part does the soft mod (quickPwn) alter, then only I shall jailbreak. Until then, no jailbreak for me. :)
As for the apps, I prefer to purchase it using my OWN MONEY. Doing so will make me appreciate the game much and feel like supporting the developers. If I somehow used/played a cracked app, I will just toss it away if I don't feel like it's doing alright. However, that seems untrue when you are going to buy any app yourself using your own money.
Example, if you are using your father/mother's credit card or your own money, you will definitely asked opinion for that app from other players, reading and watching user reviews, do comparisons before you bought. Such process is so much fun, for me, as it will taught you how to handle your money well. Otherwise, if you are using a cracked app, you'll not gone through such process. All you need to do is download and try it.

I have an iPod Touch 2G, so no jailbreak, yet. I will as soon as someone else does it, and its stable. I want to jailbreak for 5 icon dock, and Categories, but right now, I have to wait.
I will be Jailbreaking my iTouch 2g. However I may still buy games to support the developers. I will mainly be jailbreaking to get games that the big games companies release. Like the £5.99 games that are really worth like £3 :(

I'm not arguing this, but piracy is wrong, and just read this thread here (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=1603) we had a nice heated discussion on the topic. It is just wrong, and it is STEALING. If they are worth anything, you pay the asking price or don't have it. So, do you take DS or PSP games if you want them, but they aren't worth the $30-$50??
I dont have my 1st gen 16gb ipod touch jailbroken simply because i dont know the password to my wireless internet and I dont know how to find it out, lol

I dont know what the big deal is about all these cracked apps?!
first of all i do not have any cracked apps nor do i intend to get cracked apps ever, but everyone that says that its stealing should not be talking unless every song that you have in your library is bought off the itunes store or imported from a cd.
everyone downloads songs from file sharing programs like limewire and in my library i have over 3,000 songs that i have accumulated over the years. I have bought a couple hundred of them but the majority of my songs are downloaded off of limewire.
so if you are against cracking, good for you. but you dont have anything to say if you use limewire or any other P2P program to download music for free.

I think that I can help. I will need a little basic info., however. I'll list what I need out, and you should be able to get into your wireless again.
Are you a Mac or a PC?
Brand of the router?
Yea. Thats about it, and I can walk you through the rest. btw, I suppose that you're on a desktop computer.

Do you have a link for how to do this on a pc? I want to get my grandmas password, as my family goes there often

I love the hypocrisy of people.
As for jailbreaking, if you are happy with apples crippled product then great, dont jailbreak. But for anyone smart heres some reasons you SHOULD be jailbreaking WITHOUT QUESTION:
1) MMS!!!! (Remember those? your last phone had them. yeah. thats the one)
2) Snapture (OMG! We can actually take self portraits now? EASILY? yay!)
3) Backgrounder (Isnt it great being able to "minimize" your apps instead of just closing them? Yes. It is. Especially for Chat clients)
4) SBSettings. (Now you dont have to navigate through 6 menus just to turn off 3G so you can save some power! Oh and you can also end background processes so you have more memory for your games)
5) Customization (Remember how your old phone used to have a background? it wasnt just black? Yeah now you can do that too. That and you can actually personalize your iphone now with themes, fonts, lockscreens etc. Its just NICE being able to match your phone to your personality isnt it?)
6) MBox (HOTMAIL!! Yes remember that too? and i mean hotmail WITHOUT going via the website! and WITHOUT having to pay for a damn plus membership JUST to check it on your iphone mail client!)
These are the TOP reasons. But theres a helluva lot more. And those talking about speed issues im afraid are high. Ive jailbroken on every firmware, and on a 1st gen ipod touch, and now my 3g iphone, and had no issues that i didnt have BECAUSE of the firmware in the firstplace
jailbreak = win
jailed = lose
the end

Bleh. I have a 3G iphone. What's the big deal about jailbreaking. I can jailbreak if i want to but I'm not interested. I don't intend to stick to the same phone anyway. I intend to get the latest whenever Apple want to roll it out. I don't want to keep the same phone for 2 years (contract). I like mine everything shining and new and without cracked apps (craps). I like it the way it is. That's why I bought it in the first place. If i had wanted to jailbreak it I would have bought it at a 2nd hand shop. Then, I would totally bust it with load of cracked (craps). Anyway, I know if I jailbreak it I would totally installed whole lot of rubbish in it. Which, I will never use. Even, without jailbreaking I'm almost busting it. Just for the hack of it. I've had enough fun at jailbreaking things. Now, I prefer it just the way it is. Simple. Clean. And when the new latest design iphone come out, i will trade it. In the end, maybe, I like Apple more?

A)2G iPod Touch
B)For once, it feels kind of good have a completely legitimate product for once, as opposed to the sham of most of my video files.
C)Because I bought my Touch in Japan, I'm not entirely sure about the warranty status, so I don't want to risk and damage (albiet very, very slim) that jailbreaking could potentially cause.
D)I'm concerned about the battery (see C) and isn't jailbreaking a little harder on the battery than non-jailbroken status?
Plus I'm overall happy with the product. I see people complain about appfolders and the look of the OS,etc. and those just don't bother me. Sure I'd love some of the emulators or whatever, but just not worth it for me.
