Hey all. I'm new, in a way, to TouchArcade. I have been visiting this site for a while now, and finally decided to make an account . I have a few questions on jailbreak 2.2, if it is possible.
I have used QuickPwn seven times so far, each time with a failure, and everything on quickpwn works, although when it says, "I haz succes: your phone has been jailbroken and is now rebooting" or something in that sense, the phone just stays in reboot mode (at the apple logo) forever, and every few minutes vibrates for some odd reason. I have restored my phone many times, but each time i have tried to jailbreak it, I used different methods each resulting in the reboot logo for a very long time. Anyone know what is wrong?

Have you tried using Winpwn (windows) or Pwnage tool (mac) to do the jailbreak?

I had an issue with it not restoring, so I had to start over again. Right now I'm having an issue with updating apps from the mobile app store but other than that it's running fine.

I am using a mac computer, and the window laptop in my house sucks :(. I have only used QuickPwn, but have downloaded Pwnage tool. I looked up somewhere that pwnagetool is only used for unlocking the iphone for using with other service? I don't think that is true. Is there anything different about pwnagetool, from quickpwn.

Do you have a first gen iphone 2.2 firmware?

no that's not true at all. Pwnage Tool is the advanced version of QuickPwn. You can choose to put both cydia and installer, either, or neither. You can also add bootneuter to unlock your iphone. And you can choose custom images for the boot logo and the DFU icon.

To answer your other question, Yes I have a first gen iphone on 2.2. tunawrap does as well. Otherwise we wouldn't bother replying ;)

Haha that is true :). Okay I just tried to do pwnage tool, and i got the package firmware that you put on the iphone to install cydia. I put my phone into restore mode via clicking the restore button while holding alt and inserted the package. It didn't work it just said: Error in trying to restore phone please try again. So i just restored my phone again for now the 8th time :(. Blah i wish someone could do it for me haha.

Are you by any chance "updating" apps from iTunes or from the AppStore on the iPhone? I'm having the same or a similar problem. I get this 0x800002e error when I try and update an app from iTunes. My workaround is that I have to delete the app directly from the iPhone and then resync the phone with the newer version. Then I revert to a backup to get back important info which might have been previously saved by the app. Hope that helps...

No i'm not getting an error code, but yes i am updating apps via my phone. I might just wait incase they make a jailbreak for 2.3 when they make one

Yeah, that's what I've been doing as well. luckily none of the games I play often have needed a crucial update. I'd be so angry if I lost all my data =(

I have an original 2G iPhone updated to 2.2, and I had the same issue jailbreaking it with QuickPwn 2.2. After I finally got it back to being a clean 2.2 iTunes restore, the second jailbreak attempt went much better. The first attempt caused that apple freeze on start-up to occur. It took me forever to restore it too, since iTunes would crash when I connected the iPhone to the USB.

I restored it to 2.2 in iTunes, restarted the phone. Did the steps listed here again:
http://www.installerapps.com/2008/11/21/jailbreak-22-iphone-and-ipod-touch/

And the second time everything went smoothly (as it also did the first time). The big difference is that the phone fully started up the second time.
Good luck!

I have around 50 or so apps on my phone ( I know way too many haha) free and a few boughten ones. Do you think the more i have is the reason that the jailbreak won't work that well?
