Gameloft's NOVA! :drools:

I'll tell you what, I don't get it how Fieldrunners and others are porting to the other devices in light of these numbers they're showing:
21,178 game and entertainment titles on the iphone
3,680 on the DS
607 on the PSP
Seems PSP and DS are doomed. I haven't touched my DS for half a year, tho I'd love to see Professor Lynton and the Curious Village-like game on the iphone.

Gameloft's NOVA! :drools:
OMFG!!!! FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE! NOVA IS GONNA RULE!
But they gotta lose the text. IF Gameloft pulls this off like Modern Combat, this could be the closest thing to Halo we see....

I don't understand...why wouldn't you port? It's an additional source of revenue for developers. What benefit would they gain by being exclusive?

Yes!!! Open GL on the Touch! This would rock!

yeah, I know. Also, it's harder to standout in a crowd of 21k than a crowd of 600 i guess... BUT NO CAMERA?!?!?!? WTF?!?!?!
@seyoon: I'm prob clueless, but didn't it have opengl already? Can you straighten me out on that plz?

I don't understand this part. The Touch, like the iPhone, has always been capable of OpenGL-ES. What exactly was being touted here?
Also, I'm a bit disappointed by the event. I thought they'd cram more into the new Touch -- faster CPU at the very least. (Unless this was something to with this OpenGL business) I'm a bit surprised they're keeping the ol' Classic around too, I thought for sure this would be the year it quietly fades out. Guess it's gonna stick around for another year.
The new headphones for the Shuffle made me want to scream ARE YOU ALL RETARDED? Seriously, what part of "MAKE AN ADAPTER" is so hard to understand? Doesn't need to be much. Male plug on one end, female on the other, control box in the middle. Why have Apple not done this? I just don't get it. Not that I care one way or another as I have no need for a Shuffle, but it just seems like such a no brainer.
Also: APP ORGANIZATION, FINALLY, YOU BASTARDS. Now where the hell are the damn FOLDERS?

I could not of said it better.
Must be why they didn't show a demo of OpenGL, and glazed right past it. This was really short on iTouch news and updates, after a fricken year!

The previous touch had ver 1.0 iicr. Much like the iPhone 3G. Then the 3GS up'd to ver 2.0 which had a significant increase in performance. :)

And what good is cake without icing, pray tell?? ;)
If only you could load apps on the Nano, speaking of which, no Apple TV update NOR a Tablet!
Geesh!
@ Seyoon Thanks for explaining the difference, well sorta... at least for noting the performance diffence. I'll go read the article you posted
BTW, to TA Mods: is anyone gonna get to the bottom of the Gameloft's Nova thing? I'd love more info!!!

No problem. And double thanks to spiffyone for magnifying it.
OpenGL ES 1.0 was used on the older models (1st and 2nd "gen" iPod touch, iPhone and iPhone 3G). Those used an ARM 11 CPU and PowerVR MBX-lite GPU.
iPhone 3Gs uses a ARM Cortex A8 CPU and PowerVR SGX GPU and double the RAM. And it can use OpenGL ES 2.0 due to that bump in processor power. The new touch is based on 3Gs tech, so same CPU, GPU and amount of RAM and now OpenGL ES 2.0 compliant. Graphics can get a sizable boost now.
So lessen the cam moaning, pals :D. This is TouchArcade. It's all about the games and the future. I'm happy as soon as the processor and RAM is confirmed.
Let the public feel sad and disappointed for the gimmicks. TouchArcade rejoices. :)

Ah...but the camera could've added quite a bit to the device in terms of gaming, tbqh. Imagine a new The Sims game from EA where we could put ourselves in the game by snapping a photo and using it as a face texture.
I'm most disappointed in the lack of digital compass myself. No mention of that, and TA had a demo of a game using that digital compass in addition to the accelerometer for true 1:1 motion sensing. That would've been of ENORMOUS benefit to the games.
Man, you're making me sad again. :D
Nevertheless, it's all good. Even though the 3G Touch didn't leapfrog the iPhone like last year, compass, Oleophobic, mic, VoIP, etc, it's still a relief to see them headed to the gaming platform development. Feels good. I hope the devs are rejoicing. :)

Ditto. I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree with our friend seyoon and say that the camera isn't a gimmick but a venerable tool and option for game developers, unlike a "radio" in the Nano.
And also, I REALLY wanted the magnometer/digital compass, as utilized in the Zombie and rollercoster demos.
@thegamereaper which flavor you gonna get? 64GB?
@seyoon I just need to figure out if I should get an iPhone to replace my touch that just went bad last week with a line of dead pixels, or get a new touch since you're making it sound like not such a bad deal afterall ;)

:D I stand corrected then.
I completely forgot about some of my symbian games using the camera as well. Sigh~~. Guess we can't have everything. :(

It price, capacity and thickness isn't an issue, the 3GS is the bigger brother with more features. They both have the same engine under the hood. :)

So, basically this was just an oblique way of saying they did bump the processor and graphics chipset to 3GS-spec. The phrasing was just nonsensical, but I guess he didn't want to get too technical.
Also, for those complaining about the lack of AppleTV/TabletMac or whatever, you probably won't see those 'til Macworld in January.
