Used PC my entire life since the 80s growing up, and i KNOW how to use a mod a computer. I went through plenty of machines.
BUT...
Switched to Mac a number of years ago and there is no comparison.
Pertaining to Windows, Microsoft is just laughable this past decade.
I will NEVER buy another PC.

As I was searching mac rumor's forums I cam across this post:
XP = Crackwhore: Dirt cheap and easy, but you just never know where she's been. Bring your own protection.
OS X = Courtesan: High-class, beautiful, and experienced....but expensive.
Linux = Wild girl! Not as easy as some, but she'll do all kinds of stuff you'd never even have thought of, and if you play your cards right, she'll do it for free.
Very funny.
I'll provide the post link if you need proof :p

Dude I'm blown away if you think PC is easier. Like I stated above i grew up on PCs and there is NO comparison at how much easier a Mac is than a Windows based PC. One of their main goals is streamlining usability. This is one thing I know (it's my day job). Everyone I have gotten to switch to Mac couldn't believe how much easier it was for them to do anything on it as opposed to their former PCs.

Basically, this. I was quite adept at using Windows growing up, ever since about 1993. And before that I was busting out DOS commands on my parents computer as a little kid. I knew how to do pretty much anything I wanted with my computer. Then I got a Mac in 2000, and I will NEVER, EVAR switch back to a Windows computer. My parents always marvel at how I use a Mac, and they show interest in them, but they always end up buying Windows computers. I bought my G4 iMac in 2000, it worked without so much as a hiccup until 2005. That's when my girlfriend bought a G5 iMac. So I sold my old one and just used her computer, but my G4 still worked flawlessly. Now just a couple months ago, I got myself a MacBook Pro (cause the gf ditched me and took the G5 with her). But I have no doubt that my original G4 would still be working just fine for me to this day. Roughly 10 years of computing without any problems, crashes, viruses, etc. In contrast, my parents just bought a new Windows based computer about the time I got my MBP. It is their sixth computer in the same timeframe. Sixth! When I think about that, I have no problem paying the extra money for Macs. I don't hate on PC's or whatever, cause they really are better for doing certain things, and based on your computer knowledge can be more flexible. But as others have said, I just want to turn my computer on and get down to business. And once you spend a little time learning all the shortcuts with a Mac, it really is faster and more user friendly. I've convinced many people to switch to Macs over the years, and not one of them have ever been disappointed. I'm an official Mac nerd for life.

I agree that macs are faster and easier, although I'd been using windows for a while and know that quite well too. I find I have to use a whole lot more mouse with a mac which I don't like (I've used keyboard shortcuts for almost everything.)

i hate the prices of a mac but i think theyre much better and i own pc throught my whole family. i sat at best buy just to toy around with a mac and fell in love with it. pcs become obsolete WAY too quickly for me like every year theres a new set of requirements for something. ive had my pc since 2004 and ive been sick of it ever since ive used imacs, linux imo is super sucky and often times incompatible with a lot of my computer equipment.

OSX is uglier? The entire thing is a graphical masterpiece. It whooshes, it swoops, it floooows together. Windows just looks and feels clunky. And I know most of you have probably already seen this, but this pretty much sums up my feelings on Windows.

Well I was mainly referring to all the windows being the same boring gray. I don't like the look of buttons on pop up windows either, and I can't use tab to switch between them...but overall I think I like Mac > windows

Even though I have an iPod Touch and I love Apple, I prefer PC. I have nothing against Mac and I'd love to have both a PC and Mac, but if I had to choose one of them, I'd go with PC. I think Mac is more for the special things, like when you're in college, or into programming, etc., it's also kinda out of my budget.

Meh, they're all sons of PARC, more similar than they are different.
Vista is bloated. But there's stuff that's easy on the PC that's harder on the MAC (merging folders and resizing windows, for instance). And the MAC doesn't play as well with non-Apple devices and much of the open software I like to use. But I use them both daily and manage to get around.

I think this poll will be a bit slanted. :)
I have a mac running OS X and Parallels Windows XP, then another Windows XP workstation next to it. I like them both. To me I see them all working together. Don't think PC or MAC, I run them both at the same time, then that way if you want to run a windows application it will run seamlessly. I don't think about it anymore. I flip flop back and forth.

i dont know what im saying... im tired and a bit baked, ill try to make sense of it in the morning. peace :)
Grah. Why must people constantly poke at the Mac/PC thing? But since it's here, I'll throw in my view.
I don't like macs just because I like being able to know my computer... To be able to feel it when I touch the keyboard. It doesn't make much sense, really, but I can't ever feel a Mac well. They always feel like... Well, like they're encased in a hard metal shell that I can't get past. My tiny little Acer Aspire One may not be very strong or fast, but I love it, because it feels like it's inviting to use... Not so sterile like a mac feels to me.
Another thing I don't like about Macs. Wifi. I just have a hard time fixing my wifi issues with a mac than with a pc.. I'm not sure what it is.
My main reason: Gaming. I bought my gaming computer (okay fine, I left out that it was built by my friend from choice parts) for 450 dollars. I can run any game that's out currently, no problem whatsoever, other than maybe a bit of a stretched loading time, or a bit of lag, but it's the most solid piece of technology I've ever owned. Also, steam is a nice touch to my supply of gaming. Buy it once, and you can re-download whenever I need to, all you stuff is saved... And I'm pretty sure it's not for Mac (correct me if I'm wrong). I never have virus problems, I always can run my games with excellent graphics, and it's always running cool and with the hum of the big fan on the side making me feel at home. I can always make my mic work, and connect my iPhone, and all of that stuff. If something does go wrong, I can usually fix it pretty quickly.
I'm not sure why I don't like Macs. Maybe I'm just biased. Maybe my friend is so convenient that it makes having a PC easier. Whatever the reason, my PC is perfect for me, and I love it back for all of the awesomeness it gives to me.
...Keep in mind that these views are my own, and I'm not trying to push them onto anyone else.

Depends on what you use it for mostly, I guess.
I know for a fact that game's run crappily on macs. Frame rates are low, graphics are average, and the computer heats up like a freakin' skillet. PC wins hands-down there.
Macs for some reason seem to work really well with graphics and multimedia software. Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Flash, while they run well on PCs too, it seems smoother on Macs. I've tried out both, I can attest to this.
If you're gonna mod your computer and use the command line a lot, PCs the way to go. More support, larger community, and I think I get where Owl's coming from when he says OS X feels sterile and encased. It's cuz of Apple's attempt to make it really user friendly. They simplify it to the point where it's either A, B, or C, not being able to mix A with B, B with A, or Ca with without a decent amount of trouble.
If all you're gonna do is surf and send e-mails, it really doesn't matter what you get.
Just my 4.22 cents.

Yeah, right. It's a fact that Mac runs Windows faster than PCs do (the EFI firmware), and I have been running Windows 7 beta, then RC, since it came out. There's just no difference. Even wen I try to run things like Spore on Windows the Mac version is much faster than Windows.
There we are. Let the flaming begin.

I definitely like mac's better. Osx is a much cleaner looking is if you ask me,and yes I've had the beta version of windows 7 inmy pc for a while now. Windows 7 is better than vista but that isn't saying much. I just think everything is easier and works smoother on a mac. Now I do agree pcs are better for gaming but I don't care because that's what I have a ps3 for. So I say mac wins hands down, but if you like dealing with all of the viruses, spyware, and crap then have fun with your pc.

I have to say I am a PC guy. I am personally not a fan at all of Mac OS. I like the iPod touch and that honestly is about it lol. Not saying it to be a d*ck or anything, I just cant stand to use it. I love Protools though, which in opinion and experience, is the best in music recording programs, and is the only reason I would buy a Mac. I would have no problem shelling out the cash for the product if even just for Protools hahahaha. But other than that, PC all the way. Though I hated Vista. I agree with AaronAMV, if you're an average user, Vista may seem cool, but if you want to do anything that requires more than 2 IE windows up, your wasting your time. lmfao

This is quite imprecise, because OS X is a Unix-based system, and when you open the terminal you have basically a Unix shell. The amount of support you can find online on Unix commands and re-use on your mac is endless.
Just yesterday, I used the shell to create a symbolic link in order to sync on DropBox a folder outside my DropBox folder. The same syntax I'd have used on a Linux system.
Just because most users don't know that something is possible, it doesn't mean that it's not there.

The only reason I want a mac is to get apple SDK and program for the iPhone. And yeah I agree Vista isn't the best, but when I went to get a laptop there were NO XP's - they had stopped producing them. Vista was my only choice. It was either that or an EXTREMELY expensive Mac. I got the windows and LOVE it. At school they have a bunch of new macs, newest software(I think... not sure if they still have OS X - or I think they had Leopard not Snow Leopard, if that's possible) and I absolutely HATE using them. Once in a while I say "Maybe I could get used to this..." then I try a mac, and I still hate it.

In terms of functionality, no, but there was no need.
In terms of speed (which you were talking about if I'm not mistaken), it's a huge improvement. The finder opens instantly. Most applications start in half the time, or something like that. All the system is impressively reactive.

Another thing I don't like about Macs, unlike with Windows I can't use the Tab key to select which button I'm going to press when I hit return. The blue ring is around Cancel, which is the one I've selected but the Quit button is blue so when I press return Safari still quits.
Edit: lol sorry, forgot how big the image is

System Preferences -> Mouse and Keyboard Settings -> change the "tab focus" option to 'All Controls' :)
