Unique iPhone Games!

Hey, I want to know what games available in the app store are unique to you and why. I'd like to know what other games you think are worth mentioning that are different from the hundreds of Sudoku apps.

One of my favorite examples of a unique game is Platypus (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=298601125&mt=8). The reason that I think this game is so original is because it is just a simple arcade/sidescrolling shooter game... But the game was made from many photos of clay models (similar to clay animation). I really want to buy this game, but it's a little too expensive for me right now :P

A good example of a popular type of game with a unique twist is 7 Cities - TD (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299605743&mt=8). Most people know that there are many Tower Defense games on the app store. But the reason that this one is so special is because of it's leveling/upgrading feature. Each tower can be level up based on the amount of kills they get, towers can recieve new skills that make them more powerful - when they level up enough, and they can be upgraded an infinite amount of times.

Those are two excellent examples of unique games, but now I'd like to know of more. If you have any games that you know of that are different from most, please post about them.

[Edit] Another game worth mentioning is Radio Flare (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=299937094&mt=8). It's another sidescrolling shooter, but it uses music as part of the gameplay.

Yeah, I saw that when it was released earlier today. :P I think a more appropriate word to describe it is "special." It's a very special game for very special people. ;)

I would like to talk about Sim City! It's one of the only games with a little "TM" after its name!

Skybound (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=300417655&mt=8) for it's visuall look and boss mode. The gameplay is cool, but normal boss is not that original allthough it's fun to play. Boss mode is a bit more original, and fun to play.

It is as if it calls out to me "you don't have the global high score, punk" then it's on, I play for at least an hour every time I fire it up. The global leaderboard will keep me coming back infinitely.

To get back on topic, I don't think this really makes the game unique. Many games offer online global leaderboards. I'm looking for games that aren't regular games you could see every day. I'm looking for games with features that aren't usually added into the game. Sorry for the confusion

I think Touchgridn is the most unique game for the iPhone. Mainly because of the controls for the game are so unique and not possible to pull off on other platforms.

I am going to be a die-hard and say that one of my most favorite apps of all-time, Soul Trapper, is very unique. (And awesome!):D There is no other app like it! It is the only "Audio Adventure" to date! But more are coming...

Thanks for the posts/comments. Those are exactly the type of games I'm looking for. They're excellent games and they're not like most of what we see in the app store now.

I like the idea too, it's amazing. I just feel the execution isn't the best possible way. I myself can't really think of a better idea as I'm not a skater, so I definitely don't know the experience and everything. But from a gamer point of view, Tony Hawk is more enjoyable than watching the board the whole time.

As much as I don't like that game for being pretentious like christianity, I know some people love it and I must admit it is unique in that it has a very strong message. It's nowhere as crap as Urban Tycoon - the empty lies, the fraud game, whatever you call it.

Some people seem to like Passage. I thought it a nice concept, somewhat well executed (as it did what it set out to do), but it wasn't awe inspiring or life changing or anything of that sort.

However, not one damned person liked Urban Tycoon on iPhone/Touch. Not a damned one. And even if you find that one person who likes it, they probably won't defend why they like it, just as those into self mutilation or fecalphiliacs don't really defend their actions.

Yeah, I sort of changed my mind yesterday when I saw the video for the game. The game isn't about the graphics, it's about the meaning of the game. It's a game that gives a pretty accurate, small description of what life is like. There are tasks and challenges you have to go through and they are hard/easy depending on what you choose to do with your life. I think the game is more meaningful than most games (obviously), even with graphics on the low quality side.

well I think of all of ngmoco's apps are unique. They are not like anything you'll find in the appstore.

Yeah I think boom brigade is a brilliant take on the line drawing, tower defense and top-down shooter genres put together which makes it a truly unique game.

Also I was going to make a thread on this topic but I found this one so can people tell me some more recent unique games since this is an old thread?

I've heard that Hi, How are you? is a weird and unique game... #48 right now on the app store, $0.99, and with 4 to 5 star ratings throughout. And an awesome sound track

You cited 7 cities but I'm gonna go ahead and put geoDefense under that category too. Although a regular TD game at its core, its unique puzzle-like elements and graphics definitely makes this a unique one.

iSamurai is another one that offers great gameplay in a unique control scheme.

Spider:The Secret of Bryce Manor is another great game that would be hard on any other platform

Or Slay, for that matter. Graphics are sub-par, but the turn-based positional combat gameplay is fantastic, and it comes with more levels than you can shake a stick at.

Copy Cat: A Painter's Puzzle is unique. You have to mix colors and play around with shapes to make an exact copy of a given example.

Oh... i am very surprised that no one mentioned this game...Em..em..may be nowadays board game is out of time :( BUT, if you like board game, this is definitely a unique one among all board category. Besides it can remind you of your childhood, its chess can really MOVE on the board!!! The animation attract me so much...very polish! Also, it is very challenging and a good time-killing game.

For me, unique game is Defender Chronicles (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=318339007&mt=8) - its best tower defence ever, why?

- replayability
- regulary updates
- nice graphic
- rpg elements
- cool conception

Boom Brigade for me.

It is like a mobile tower defense game. Your "towers" are actually soldiers, you and move them strategically, via line drawing (like flight control), to protect the base. There's different types of soldiers, and their upgrades. Its a steal for 99c.

Puzzlings is one of my fav games. It is not like any other game. You can even use the built in camera (built into the game) to take a pic of your dressed of Puzzling with different backgrounds. Awesome game.
