app for 2 iPTs to communicate

Does anyone know of an app that will allow two iPod touch's on the same wi-fi network to exchange text and maybe pictures, etc.? Preferably something that is limited to just that because this is for my kids to share stuff on their iPT's -- I don't want them on any internet social networking sites. Thanks.

My kids' accounts automatically refuse emails with attachments, so that doesn't work for photos. You can get off the floor now.
