Rolando is well worth the price, I don't see it dropping anytime soon. Maybe on their next game release it'll go on sale to celebrate though, but I'd say pick it up now - it's well worth it.

If it's in the top 25, the price is not going to drop anytime soon. I would either get another iTunes card or find another game.

According to Appshopper Rolando is ranked around 30-something in the top paid list and is slipping down each day. A price-drop could be in its future, definitely if it falls from the top 50...

It will sooner or later, NGMOCO produces excellent games all of which I have paid for as soon as it came out, Only to see a price drop only a few days or so later. While I don't mind, I think everything they make is worth the money, I am going to wait for Rolando to drop in price as well. It will happen sooner or later... Hopefully sooner than later as I have been wanting to try this one, just not sure if I will even like it that much...

If it dropped, what would it drop to? Maybe $5 at the very least. For the $5 you would save yourself (probably less in reality) it's worth getting it now rather than waiting.

It's all very well saying you won't bow to the pressure when your game is doing well and is at the top of the charts, but when you suddenly find your game dropping out of view and no-one's buying it because there's so many other cheaper games out there that are just as good... well, then we'll see if they change their mind about a price-drop...
I just had a look on the UK version of the App-Store, and Rolando is now down at number 23... they were at number 5 or 6 when I last looked a few days ago...
Where are they on the US Store?
Update: I just logged into the US Store myself to check, and the story there is even worse... Rolando's at number 35.

Once Rolando is near to dropping out of the top100, they will click the discount button faster than anyone can say the word "bullshit".

im sure its worth 10 bucks but ill never buy another one of their games until they go on sale. every one of their games i bought dropped in price only days after i bought them. if it never drops, ill never buy it b/c the way i see it, they owe me at least 5 bucks for horrible ethics.

How will you know if it never drops? You could wait three months and it doesn't drop, but right when you buy it 2 hours later it could drop...think about it.
Imo Rolando is worth the price and complaining isn't going to magically lower the price either just so you know.

my point is that with every one of their games, i was an early adopter and bought each one on the day it came out, only to have the price dropped a week later. im cool with sales but to me, the people supporting them right out of the gate get screwed. there should be some kind if price guarantee for a limited time. if something goes on sale 1 month later, im cool with that too. this time ill just wait until it goes on sale. its more of the principal than the money. it could go on sale for 9 bucks and ill buy it.

I understand others' and your pain too. There is a fact that everyone here seems to ignore. The timing of the price drops has nothing to do with "time" itself AT ALL. The only thing that governs when to drop price is the games ranking on AppStore. Once it goes under the radar or out of top10/25/50/100, then it is time to drop the price.
From the way i see it. Rolando will be on sale soon. It dropped out of top10/25 pretty quickly and is going down fast. Trust me, ngmoco will drop the price soon to improve the rankings.

I don't think developers are conning anyone by reducing pricing when the market dictates they need to. Unless they make money from these releases then they won't make future games and they need to do what they can to maximise on their efforts.
It's simple econonics/business folks - hardly that hard to grasp!
I can understand peoples annoyance that a price drop can happen once they've paid the higher price - but if that bothers you too much then just wait for the price drop. If you want to be an early adoptor then buy it early at the higher price.

Dude...it was $2 dollars! At most that is what you could have lost....that's half of what most games cost now. And none of them have a 1/4 of the polish and development of ngmoco games. Rolando is amazing and there is no denying that, and it certainly is worth the price. I do not believe the price will drop ever from $9.99, once it begins to fade in the App Store, an update will be released with some cool new stuff that will bring the hype right back up...hopefully at least :D

if i buy something from target and it drops in price in the next 2 weeks, i get to go into the store and get the difference. same principal should apply here. i know its not a lot of money but it's the principal. all these little $1's add up seeing ive already purchased almost $300 worth of apps. id say ive been screwed out of at least $75 dollars. thats a lot of $1 apps.

Heh, I think this was meant for the Edge thread...
But, Rolando and Edge have many similarities, although I would give the upper hand to Rolando based solely on its graphics and great amount of polish.

All,
I am also bummed by price drops right after I buy, so lowering the price on Sentry Alpha didn't come without some concern that I'm screwing some people. I'd just like to really apologize for that.

They're being promoted, for free, by Apple, in the the most prime position available on the App Store, right up there at the top of the page.
And even with free advertising they're still dropping off the radar fast. A quick check now shows Rolando to have dropped even further to number 40.
They "hype" which you speak of is only present on websites like this, TouchArcade, where people gather and discuss how great (or rubbish) certain games are, and where we hear other people's opinions and where we see gameplay videos, etc.
So yeah, over here, Rolando has great support, but you're forgetting we make up a teeny teeny itsy bitsy percentage of the mass of people who buy App Store games. The majority of the general public just goes straight to the App Store, and that's their only location for finding out about games.
And they might check out Rolando, as it's being promoted on the front page of the App Store, but when they see the price, that think, naaah, I can see other games that are cheaper, I'll buy one of those instead.
Like it or not, that's what's happening. Whether the price is justified at $9.99 or not, that's what's happening.
So no amount of further hype or updates to the game will make it sell better - they've already got THEE golden prize of being promoted for free in the App Store's no. 1 position. You can't get any better that that.
And if you can't sell the game well enough to avoid falling out of the top 50, then something's wrong. Probably the price...
And I say "wrong", being at least in the general public's eyes. They're the ones opening up their wallets to spend the money, so, again, like it or not, it's them you have to please - not a handful of game-reviewers, etc.

Aint that the truth. They indeed had the best hype going with free advertising from the Apple gods themselves. But I noticed SimCity slowing dropping out from the Top 100s as well. I think its because both games are a bit niche and pricey. If iFart and iBeer are still selling at top spots, then the iPhone demographic is obviously not the type to sit down, play, and appreciate the games like SimCity and Rolando.
What I see in the future are more games for that type of market, and less games like Edge, Rolando, SimCity, etc. And if they do make these latter types, they won't be cheap.

The problem is, that most apps on the AppStore are
1. Too cheap for what they offer
2. Free
3. Too cheap or free and sucking like hell
Sim City and Rolando are priced well. Both are great games with great contents and much fun inside. I even think, that they should cost more. But unless the other devs start charging reasonable prices for their work and unless Apple really starts separating the low budget games from the higher priced ones, this won't change.
I had the idea of creating several groups of apps like free, low-budget, mid-buget and premium. This would solve the mess with the top lists and make clear, that for more money you get a premium game. The focus would change from the price to the quality of the games.

good idea but who would be responsible for deciding if a game is of premium caliber? we could see some crap games in there.

Maybe it shouldn't be based on quality but on price (was that your suggestion as well, Oliver?).
Then, quality games can get the $9,99 pricetag, but they will be among SimCity and Rolando etc.. So in order to be at the top with a $9,99 game, you don't have to compete with the $0,99 games, but you do have to compete with the other games of your pricerange. So if your game is $9,99 and too pricey for its quality, it'll be low in the list. But a good $9,99 game would get the recognotion it deserved, even though the #1 $9,99 game might have less sales than the #10 $0,99 game.

Yes, it was meant to be based on the price. So if a dev decides to give it a price tag of 9,99, it is considered as a premium game and displayed in this category automatically.
Some devs might produce crap and give it the premium price tag, but that's how the DS market works: Great and garbage games cost the same - reviews and ratings do the rest of the work.
This system would just keep the different pricing schemes separate from each other. Premium games would be visible again and a dev who creates a premium game can therefore charge more for his work (i.e., finally something reasonable).

works for me. the only problem is that way too many developers think they're games are worth more than they are!!

It wouldn't work this easily though. If a developer would discount the game, he could get more sales (because this often happens with sales, people are waiting for the price to drop and then get it) and then restore the price. He'd still have a certain number of sales from the discount, and could be instant #1 in his pricerange.
The alternative would be to reset a game's sale count when a price drop occurs, so that when a developer discounts his game and then set it back to the old price he'll have to work his way up in the rankings again. But then developers would never discount their games again since it would take them off the ranking lists.

Whoever said Rolando was easy or short, is mistaken in my opinion. This game has frustrated me so much, because of how difficult it is in some areas. I'm on "The Rescue Party" level in "Fire Canyon". I've tried it at least eight times, and I still lose a Rolando before finishing the level. It can be very tricky in some spots. It has major replay value. I'm sure others may have breezed right through it, but not me.

Yes, I also think Rolando has decent replay value. It might be easy just to simply 'beat' the game, but going back to collect all the diamonds and completing each levels within the Time Trial limit is definitely challenging and worthy of playing the game over additional times. Not to mention, it's cool just to take out your device and let those silly dudes that make funny sounds roll around a bit.
