Sometimes I'm at a hotel or something and didn't bring my computer, and LodgeNet usually has a stupid selection of movies. Why won't Apple let us download movies directly to the device? File size?

Have you ever been trying to download an app and then your out of the wifi zone or something, and then you just have a halfway downloaded app on one of your pages? maybe it's something like that.

I think it's because Apple is a company full of douchebags.

That's cuz Apple doesn't develop them.

File size.
That, and think about how long it would take to download said movie.

say you're at a hotel with wi-fi, you leave your ipod plugged in with a movie downloading, shower, go down for dinner, then come back up. voila! movie! no one's gonna stay in a starbucks or panera for 2-3 hours just to download a flick.

Yeah, which is because of file size. :p

yup, file size, especially because apple's movies on itunes are like 1 gig!!! That would take an hour on a COMPUTER!

I've been wondering about this one for a while. They really need to add it in as a Wi-Fi only method of course, but it would make sense to have it. Even to have the option to set a download on your main desktop so when you get back home to your computer the movie is waiting for you.

haha, i just realized though that kbps is kiloBITS/s. there are 8 bit in a byte, so divide the 15000 by 8 and its more like 1.9 megs a second. Still freakin fast though :)

I have program, but you have to convert the video afterwards. Just lemme find the name of it. It's freeware, btw.
Edit: DVD Decrypter. It's a little tricky but not too hard to find since the company doesn't have it on their official web site anymore. But it's quick, efficient, small, and free.
The file converter is Jodix Free iPod Video Converter, but there are so many free converters out there you don't have to use this one. I just like that they have an iPod touch setting, but there might be others like it out there.
I ripped a DVD with The Big Bang Theory episodes on them. Great quality.

Plug it in while it's downloading. If you're gonna stay in one spot for the Wi-Fi, you might as well.

for this you can already use the remote desktop app, its free, called RDP lite

That's fifteen minutes to download, PAR2, and unRAR - everything. An hour for a gig?! That would kill me. I do around 1TB per month of downloading ...
