This falls in the Castle Defense genre. You can pick from a couple of the Allied powers to compete. The goal of the game is to defend your trench, while putting pressure on the other persons trench, and taking control. Guns are the main weapon, but bayonets can be used for close quarter battles!! Hopefully there will be tanks and airstrikes.

Edit: I have a feeling it could be similar to Boom Brigade, where you draw lines to control your soldiers within the trenches.

Hey everyone, I know I’ve been babbling on a lot recently about my under the radar activity with some new games (as well as my own little games company, official announcement on that next week), well I just wanted to announce an exciting new collaboration I’m involved with, with the guys over at Thunder Game Works. T.G.W. are a new and VERY exciting iPhone developer whose sole goal is to create seriously awesome games, were not talking fly by night iPhone cheap thrills here, were talking quality, on every level!

Well, I was lucky enough to be chosen as their artist for their first title Trenches, so for the past couple of months I’ve been a busy fella, illustrating, designing and animating like an over excited crazed maniac, and I can only say that this is going to be something bloody fantastic! I am sooooo proud to be involved in this and I can honestly say that there is nothing like this out there right now!

There are a number of breathtaking unlockables in this game too, some of which are LITERALLY bigger than most $0.99 games! It’s nothing short of epic!

So, watch this space, there will be much more to come very soon!

Its a first or third person shooter set in WWI instead of the already over crowded WWII genre. I'll also add RPG elements to make it much deeper than the average FPS.

Set in the Trenches(obviously)in WW1...You have a squadron of soldiers and have to stop the Germans from invading your Trench...With grenades,shooting them,using our bayonet to knife them.

It's possibly gonna be a bit like Grunts but with just your Trench and the Germans Trench,with battlefield in the middle.

Or you will have your trench on screen and have rampaging German Soldiers coming across the battlefield attacking you and you have to repel them with whatever weapons you have at your disposal,and maybe soldiers in German Trench throwing grenades and firing at you etc.

Probably way off tho :D

I too am getting a 33rd Division line-drawing vibe, but I think there could be some tower defnese type aspects as well. Then again perhaps a cool dual-stick shooter. I don't know, but I love the graphics!

I'm guessing a risk-type game except you have an HQ which are the trenches and this is where you choose cards (for upgrades or units). Maybe when you attack another place there is an animation of the battle.

My guess is some sort of Coastal Defense type game where your guys are in trenches and you have to fight off waves of enemies. Tower defense type, but maybe with a twist perhaps.

That's so funny! Our British voice actor sounds gay ... but only a "little bit gay". I'll have to let him know. :p That's really funny. I suppose he does like pop-culture movies.

The German voice sounds a bit bavarian :). If you want to have it more "Hitler-like" you have to pronounce the "R" special, like the pirates say it and the "e" like an "ä"(do you have an ä over there in the USA?)

BTW, will the game be released in Germany? The most games with Nazis aren't in the German store :(.

*edit* and to add something to the british: I think it's because I heard a very long time no British :), hope your voice actor isn't too angry with me :|

With the way the approval process goes, we cannot guarantee if Apple will approve our game before Christmas, but it is planned to be submitted much before then.

We are actually working on a gameplay trailer and you will be seeing from cool stuff very soon.

We can at least tell you that there will be lots of killing in a cartoony WWI manner... or of course, you can take the pacifist approach....and lose horribly. (But we won't tell you how to play. ;) )

We are not willing to commit to a specific deadline for when the game is released. Far too often this hurts the developer, not helps, since it often is the case that the review process takes FAR too long or that the game is rejected on some tiny unforeseeable problem.

So the best we can say is "around" this Christmas season. :) Hope that helps.

Voice acting is a sore spot for me in most games. I just don't feel much emotion or authenticity behind those voice clips. And the two characters sound exactly the same to me, but with a slightly different accent.

The accents are not very convincing either. Is that supposed to be a German accent? I imagined much gruffer sounding voices for both characters.

If you are going for a funny vibe, then the voices and accents need to be more over the top. If you are going for a more serious vibe, then the voices need to be tougher, gruffer and more manly.

Just my opinion though!

Once you see the game and how it plays out, I think we can convince you of the quality. You said if it was funny, we should be more over the top, but if we were serious, then it should be gruffer... but what if the game is equal parts humorous and serious? :rolleyes:

We are well aware that voice acting is very hit or miss in the gaming community. If the voice acting sucks but the game is amazing, people will still focus on the poor voice acting.

EDIT: Those are also voice clips that we are not using for the game since we saved only the best to be in the game.

I agree bout the hype, even the trailer is setting the expectations very high. So finally this is going to be like the flash game from armorgames that we all love. I haven't seen an icon or control to manage the soldiers in the trench, so is not going to be 100% the same (of course).

What I have noticed is that the iPhone screen is not too big to accommodate the soldiers with their big heads. From the video it doesn't seem there is a zoom in-out option to see what the enemy is doing.
Realistically, the characters only shoot what is in front of them instead of aiming for the enemy. SO i shoot to the bottom and someone gets killed on the top of the screen ¿?¿? not so clear.

Still very hyped and looking very good. Hope we get this for Xmas

I'm trying to play this game online and I can't get past the 2nd level... the controls are confusing to me, I don't seem to be doing anything but ordering units only to see their morale sink... if I had the choice I'd just keep them in the trench... but they seem to do as they please... and in that sense the game sucks! Well, this game was announced around the same time as Aliens vs Zombies. I'm saying the concept's similar, because they are both games where you have two sides fighting each other and multiple trenches across the field.

We are very open to hearing user feedback on the game regarding the balance of the units and weapons.

What is so cool about Trenches is that we can fine tune the balance of the game without submitting an update. So if you think the Sniper is an unstoppable force of terror and destruction, just let us know.

Or if the enemy is dominating you with their mortar teams and all you can do is cry and whimper, then just let us know.

I'm also testing ZvsA, but after I've played this I don't think that it's better anymore. Trenches is an amazing game, and good in its own right. It's also much more polished because it's already finished, so you really can't compare between the two. However, if you really want to compare between the two, I have to say this one is better at the moment.

Alright, so here I go. Sorry I'm not going to be able to put up the preview today, I had some relatives over for a LONG time.

1. The game has a charming feel to it, something I really can't name but it captures my attention for quite some time.

2. Sound effects are nicely done, and you can direct squads back and forth using your finger, which is nice. I don't like those games where your troops don't follow your orders and can't move back. Here, you can pinpoint the exact spot you want them to stay, and tell them to retreat to an exact location very conveniently and easily.

3. There's a secret unlockable mode that I'm sure you guys will love. Can't say much about it. ;)

4. Interface is easy to learn and understand - didn't even read the instructions and understood every aspect of the game.

5. Easy is easy, Medium is somewhat easy, but Hard is definitely difficult.

6. You can have an unlimited number of people in one trench, and that's pretty realistic and cool. I love having tons of guys unleash a barrage of fire on the advancing enemy, and see and hear the effects of my barrage.

7. On Skirmish modes if you select the "Adaptive" AI, it is insanely smart. I got about 8 or 9 squads of guys into a single trench, but the AI killed all of them.

That's about it so far, I'll post a link to my preview (which should be up tomorrow) and my review (which should be up within a day or so of the game's release).

Cool also you should make a promo vid with that strategy :D it would look so good with the mortars falling and u hear it along with sniper shots with boom and you see a guy go down and a massive wave of infantry to mop up...10 secs later Adaptive AI copies the strategies and it turn into a all out war with mortar falling on both sides snipers firing and getting hit from enemy sniper's and infantry vs infantry up close. This reminds me of Army Men when the Tan invaded the Green. I miss that series :(
