yep; i used to have a site. and at least more smileys and avatars are definitely possible; and not THAT hard. Let me know if I can help. BTW; what is the system this site is using; Joomla?

Arn, do you think you could pick select users (like mods, or big contributors like wastedtheyou) to have special avatars? That way we could easiy recognize them as people to trust.

on the other fourm i use, the mods names are a different color font, its really easy to pick them out. And everyone had avatars

Yes, something like that. I don't think Avatars help that much, and nobody really pays them much attention.

Believe me, if avatar were allowed most people would be remembered more by their avatar then their names. Images (for me at least) are more easily identifiable then names.

I assume it is a server load issue. Adding avatars increases the bandwidth used, slows down the boards, and most likely makes the site cost more to run.

The same can't be said for editable titles under your name. They just need to enable them in admin mode. It's really easy too, but I'm sure the admin has a reason for not using them.

Right now, as it is, some people may spam just to get to 100 posts on this site. Then, after that, what's the point of spamming? You just get more post numbers, but you're still only a senior member. If we had even more ranks, people would just continue to spam until they reach whatever uber high level they want. I think it's nice right now that junior members or members may just post some useless stuff to get up to a senior member, but once they're there they can just post their opinions and stuff and not have to worry about increasing their rank.

I'm not saying everyone spams, and I would love more ranks, but that's one of the views that could keep arn from adding more ranks. It probably keeps sites tidier and keeps some of the spam out.

Avatars would be a nice addition to TA. They add to the community aspect of the forums and can help identity other posters and mods.

More important for me though would be an iPhone formatted version of both the blog and forums. That would be sweet - no more hitting "Last" instead of "next page" or zooming in all the time! Seems to me like a game site specifically for iphone should be formatted for iphone? I know MacRumors has it so, can't we get an iPhone version of TA.

Several forums have additional fields, I know that on the SBSH forums (a developer for Windows Mobile software) there is a "Devices" field. So maybe the admin can enable extra fields. I'd like this, and right now I have this info in my signature. :)
