Rumour has it that RedSn0w could possibly be a 2g Jailbreak.

So we’ve all seen yellowsn0w.com (http://www.yellowsn0w.com/), but there’s a new color of snow to hit the web: redsn0w.com (http://www.redsn0w.com/). Yellowsn0w was set up by the iPhone Dev Team (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/) and redirects you to their 3G unlock, but we can’t give you much detail as to what redsn0w is. If you visit the site, all you’re presented with is a picture that has been constantly changing. It’s gone from the typical pwnage pineapple, to a dog, and even to a picture of the Teletubbies. One thing that we can confirm is that it is running on the same servers as yellowsn0w.com, so it belongs to the iPhone Dev Team. It could have something to do with a 2G iPod touch jailbreak, but at this point it’s highly unlikely. But if the iPhone Dev Team has been hiding something up their sleeves this whole time, today would be their day to tell us. As of this post it’s Sunday, and on the Dev Team’s clock that means funday. A little term that they like to use when they have their own little show-and-tell.
The iPhone Dev Team has yet to comment about it on their blog (http://blog.iphone-dev.org/), nor do we know if they ever will. They could very well be pranking us, and getting a good laugh in. But we might as well be optimistic about it and hope for the best - just don’t be too surprised when what you were hoping for doesn’t happen.
UPDATE: We’d like to point out that this website has nothing to do with the guys over at Chronic Dev, and that the iPhone Dev Team mentioned this themselves on their Twitter, here. (http://www.twitter.com/iphone_dev)
UPDATE 2: We’re positive that this nothing to do with the iPod touch 2G jailbreak, and may be a site for an upcoming project coming from the iPhone Dev Team. Rumor has it that it might be something to do with a permanent 3G unlock, but we’re not going to speculate on it any further.

iphone will be updated with the same processor as the touch; so they might be working on it early. check out the link in my sig; they worked on the 2g touch a while ago.

wait; sometime just came to mind. yellow = soft unlock; could red = full unlock?

I still got a bit of hope it will be the touch jailbreak. They DO have 2g's and HAVE started work on the jailbreak. Read the first link in my sig.

They lied about having the devices and said they had not started work.

But they do have the devices and do have progress. So redsn0w could be 2g or full unlock.

I can't wait for any jailbreak. I'll be jailbreaking my iPod, and using the many benefits of jailbreaking. 5 Icon Dock, Categories, and Backgrounder. No cracked apps for me. :).

it's a long story. basically the dev team on twitter have about 3 accounts. i told one that a ask him; ask him; ask him cycle they did when someone asked about redsn0w was not funny. he replied that a stranger on twitter telling him not funny would not change his ways; back and forth. i sent him the thread to the dev team lied thread; he cursed at me etc.

then all of a sudden 40 minutes after my conversation with one of them; the redsn0w twitter profile (official btw) sent me a tweet with the link to the dev team thread; except they got the image which is on their server and replaced it with the image on the redsn0w site pic and on top it said dannyswrld delayed redsn0w for 2 months. i deleted it from the thread cause it was a huge pic took forever to load

i dought this was because of me; and if it is it's being childish. what i know is that the redsn0w twitter account told me not to bother him cause he needed to finish loading warez onto his ipt2g.

so thats what i know. i just think it's them screwing with us. if they released pushed back the release that's being childish; and i should add it to my sig.

i'll add it to my sig. i dont care. its being childish. but im pretty sure that redsn0w is not 2g jailbreak; that it is the 3g full unlock. go to my twitter for the conversation. they admitted they lied and said w/e

Well, it is quite strange. They are a bit sensitive, and I just asked them if they were working on it. Either way, it doesn't matter all that much, if it is just 1.0 of the 3G unlock.

im not; but i was asked. i dont care actually like i said b4. and im not messing with them. i replied to the redsn0w profile and told them "seriously; is the date pushed back? because of ME?" but have not received a reply. but they r keeping an eye on me; the redsn0w profile is following me.

If it happens, I'll likely want to do it immediately, as I want to show some friends how great it is, as they are freaking scared to death to jailbreak. I try to convince them daily, but to no avail. I will wait a day to see if bricking is common, or anything above a .01% occurance.

I'm not aware of anything you could do to an iPod touch to brick it. DFU should still work unless they mess with something really low level.

I can't wait for the 2G jailbreak. I've been wanting it so badly that I've considered buying a 1G just to jailbreak it (I want to be able to customize my iPod to how I like it with wallpapers, themes, etc.).

I will probably be jailbreaking my 2G after I see how everyone else does with it. I don't want it to do anything bad with my iPod, so I'll wait to hear if anything unexpected happens.

Also, I think this is necessary to say since this is a pretty special event, lol: I CAN HAZ JAYUL BRAYK?!?:cool::D:p

yes; if u jailbreak though a software and have to take it to the store; RESTORE IT; make sure there's no j/b stuff left and u can take it to the store. ;)

In the long run tho, it's probably worth it to get wallpapers and stop wasting money on crap..

I don't know, apparently it's a completely different kind of exploit and it works differently, so it could be possible that you don't have to wipe it clean just yet

It's not that it isn't stable, it's that the process is extremely manual at this point and would be kinda hard to do for the average user.

Also, don't quote me on the release date... I really don't know when it'll be available

I know that at this point its very time consuming (as far as ipod jailbreaks go)and involves alot of manual work. I meant when they do release a jailbreak to the public, thats easy to use, i hope that its extremely reliable.

I'm kinda upset if I have to lose all my save data to jailbreak. I have some really good Fieldrunners scores and have unlocked a lot of levels and such in other games. Can't I backup my iPod to my computer (wouldn't that bring the save data over?), jailbreak it, and then reload everything on it, and I should have all my save data?

I jailbroke mine, and even though when I tried to reload the backed up settings it didn't work, I just manually put on all the applications I wanted again and all the settings were saved (the status of my ongoing trism game, the iSave of Rolando, etc.)

But didn't you do the 1st gen jailbreak? because the 2nd gen jailbreak is going to be much different I would think.

what's going on with the "semi-tethered" version of the jailbreak? I just looked at their site. Why are there 2 jailbreaks available now? Sorry for so many questions, but I just wanna JB my little baby eventually

Semi tethered is buggy, so just go with tethered. Trust me. Semi tethered is a mess, and tethered has a variety of tools to jailbreak with.

Thanks, I guess I'm just gonna wait for the full jailbreak. I know being tethered isn't a huge deal, I just don't want to deal with it right now.
