If it's legalized in California then it's only a matter of time before it spreads to the rest of the country. As soon as the phat taxes start pouring in by the millions other states facing massive economic pressures won't have any choice but to follow suit.

Its not legalized yet. The commitee vote was passed. But still, one small step for marijuana, one giant leap for marijuana lmao

I wonder what the driving laws will be like if your high. I believe for people that use it medically have to wait an hour before driving or sumthing. Also you know how most jobs require drug tests..... I wonder what that will be like too.

One repercussion of legal weed will probably be the widespread roll out of a "breathalyzer" technology developed by Phillips last year that can detect cannabis as well as other substances within a persons saliva. Right now this is the only way they could charge someone for DUI of marijuana but the machine doesn't take into account that the drug can be detected for weeks after smoking while the effects last at most a couple hours.

If it was between 200-250 I guess I could live with that too. But I can see them charging 300+ and then taxing you on top... Ounces of good herb at the club's out here are generally 300+ and that's kinda pricey all things relative.

Affirmative, but I don't have the money for some $400 kush, or what ever the insane price is for the stuff. I'll take some standard headies for $300 with tax included no problem.

man, this is what I"ve been talking about for years, tax weed and pay for schools, not only is everyone chilled out and happy, but our children learn better

Just as a note, not everyone who smokes gets chilled out and happy. some get paro and upset. Just depends on how much a gripping hold on reality they chose to keep.

I think that this is something to keep an eye on. I think that a major problem with legalization (as opposed to decriminilization) is that the education still isn't there. While i'm happy that people who would want it for use would have easier, legal access to it, i would also be concerned, that, like alcohol or tobacco, some people who didn't know what they were getting into would get hold of it and have a poor, uneducated experience.

In Canada, medical marijuana is legalized, and the cost is affordable and the quality incredibly good. I would think that it would end up being the same, otherwise they wouldn't be able to stop the black market for it: people would just keep going with their dealers who were getting them OK stuff for a reasonable price. That would be my thoughts on it.

I actually live so close that I ran over there like 10 minutes after this happened. Unfortunately, they built huge concrete planter boxes and hundreds of huge, cement filled metal posts to surround the entire building, so good luck getting a truck up there again. But you are welcome to try!

Nice, this is good news. Hopefully it'll actually get legalized, and then it'll just spread to other parts of the country. I'm sure there will be states that won't legalize it, but I'm sure Washington state will. :)

It'd be legal to grow then, wouldn't it? So you could just grow your own and wouldn't necessarily have to pay taxes on it over and over. Unless you're selling it of course.

Also, doesn't Marlboro already sell like Marlboro Greens in Amsterdam or something?

it cost a lot of money to grow it. I don't see that being viable for someone who smokes like 1/8 a week.

I'll happily admit to being a pothead, on my dad's side of the family nearly everyone has smoked at one point so I don't feel the stigma towards it some people do. If anything the fact my dad has been smoking literally my entire life is what kept me from trying it for the first time until I was in my 20's. When I moved into my first apartment my roommate was a smoker and talked about how awesome it was constantly which is how I eventually tried it for the first time.

Yeah, well psychologically/mentally speaking I can see the benefits. Most people get much more relaxed and when smoke it, so maybe if George Bush smoked it the US (and the UK) wouldn't have started a stupid war.
The only reason that I don't regularly smoke it is because I study Biology and I know how it can f*ck up your body.

Which Bush? Bush Sr. whose "war on drugs" funneled massive amounts of cash into the industrial prison complex that now houses 1% of US citizens or his son the dopey cokehead?

I smoke every day but I mostly use the volcano. It's probably not a huge improvement since smoke is still entering the lungs but I suffer from lower back pain and irregular sleeping patterns .

How about a crackdown on pharmaceuticals? The drug lunesta can cause a person to perform all kinds of actions while still technically asleep including sleep walking, sleep eating and sleep driving.

How is it that weed is illegal while a drug that can cause you to drive a car in your sleep gets to run ads on TV?
