hey guys its me again (yes, i do make a lot of threads)

but anyway, i recently bought a new game called battle blasters and it has become my favorite game to ever grace the app store (sorry labyrinth 2:()

ok so here is the gist. im trying to make myself better so if you have gotten this game, i wanna hear who is your fave character and why. if you havent gotten it, go buy it.

To perform an easy to do Battle Blade/Quick Shot combo with Jerett:

1. Align yourself with the opponent
2. Tap on Jerett to release his Battle Blade
3. Immediately after the tap fast swipe to fire a quick shot

Both the Battle Blade and the quick shot will fly towards the opponent. If they both hit, they will cause a double shot and a 2-hit combo. Try it!

im not too good myself, but im constantly practicing. i personally like eno because you have a little more control over his power shots. you have to strategically align his three shots to where you think your opponent will move too.

i also like maya, but her absorb power shot thing is not too helpful IMO.

jerett is solid and is the only character i cannot beat on hard difficulty using eno.

BROC is so easy because he is so big and easy to hit. if you have a fast character, you can easily avoid his ice shot.

gabrielle is a bit tough but with a good strategy, she is manageable. whenever she charges her red power shot, i stop everything im doing to try to block it back to her. if it hits you, it does quite a lot of damage. :rolleyes:

and lastly, anubis is also easy i think. if you have a fast person, you have an easier time to get away from his double shots. whenever he throws his arms up to blast his super red balls things, i just shoot him as much as i can.

so as eno, i have no trouble beating anubis, or broc. maya, gabrielle and eno are somewhat of a challenge. but jerett is tough to beat as eno.

i havent opened gab or broc yet, but i can tell that im gonna stick with eno and try to perfect him as much as possible

do you guys need a gameplay explanation:

so you face of against an opponent on the other side of the screen and shoot things at them to defeat them. there is so much strategy in this, you wouldnt believe it. the controls are spot on and tons of replay value. 6 unique characters. 4 difficulty levels. facebook leaderboards with the promise of openfeint etc. later on. there is split screen multiplayer. (im also currently beta testing bluetooth multiplayer). can you guys just believe me when i say its my favorite game ever. also tons of replay value. :D

He got me to buy it in the what should I get thread, and I have to say it is really good. When you get to some higher difficulty levels you get into some epic fights. Bluetooth multiplayer is also coming, which will be awesome.

Well, I'm a 28 year old kid and can vouch that this game rules. It's sort of one of those games you have to play for a while, and then eventually everything "clicks", and then you can't stop playing. It avoids the problem that other fighters have on this platform, where the two characters fight in close combat and rely on hit boxes and pin point controls to be really fun. In BB it's more of a shootout, but it's still strategic and relies on your quick thinking and reflexes. You're not worrying about remembering combos, or fussing with dodgy touch controls.

Everything in this game just works so you can focus squarely on the battle. It's so easy anybody can play, but if you practice at it you learn all the little nuances and realize that all the characters are really unique and the balance between them is phenomenal. In fact, that's a perfect word for this game: balanced.

Perfect and simple controls, graphics that have a retro feel but are still impressive, balanced characters and gameplay. And FUN. Those are all the elements that come together to make Battle Blasters a true hidden gem. Oh! And love! <3 The secret ingredient. You can tell a lot of love went into this game, with how carefully and beautifully it's been crafted.

I was immediately attracted to the art style, and the fact that it was supposed to be "like a fighting game". If you weren't immediately interested in those two features, I could see how you may have missed checking out BB. It's also frustrating for me to see such an awesome game go unnoticed, but with all the games out there on a daily basis it's very easy for great games to slip by. If you've ever been interested in fighting/competitive games, I can almost 100% guarantee you will LOVE Battle Blasters. If you were never interested in those type games, but this particular game seems intriguing to you, I can say that it's a really high quality game for the price. If you ended up not being crazy about the gameplay for whatever reason, I still don't think you'll feel like you wasted your money on something, just that it maybe wasn't for you. This is definitely a polished and solid game.

I just can't recommend this game enough, I encourage anyone else out there that's already enjoying Battle Blasters to speak up in the various threads and let's start building a fanbase. If online multiplayer comes sometime down the road, we will have an epic time beating the crap out of each other. :)

Battle Blasters is quite possibly one of the first iPhone games that I've checked out and instantly got that same retro feeling back from the 80's when games were cool.

This game is simply a work of art in my eyes.

The game plays much like a simplified street fighter, top down perspective, with gorgeous canadian made pixels ( I know several canadian pixel artists and they all share this similar romantic looking style ). You have 3 modes of attack and one mode of defense per character and each character has it's own specialty. Weather it be a power shot that takes the enemy down about 1/3 life, globs of energy that first protect the player, then fire away at the enmy or 2 powerful shots at a time the characters are so varied that you simply want to play and master them all.

This leads me to the simplified street fighter approach to the game mechanics. The developers really pulled this off quite well. They simplified the moves down to a power shot, fast shot, special attack and block/reflect. These are controlled by gesturing with your finger on the screen. You are also in charge of moving your character left and right.

Overwhelming at first, once you get down moving left and right and firing your quick and power shots you're ready to go.

The gameplay plays much like a combination of street fighter and tennis and is extremely satisfying since you're busting combinations of shots, special attacks and blocking while moving left and right deflecting the enemy.

This game is absolutely intense, I wanted to give it a quick 10 minute go and sat there playing for 2 hours. Many times I waved my fists in the air saying "ALMOST!!!! DAMN YOU MAYA!!".

That night I went to a birthday party for a friend and I kept whipping Battle Blasters out and challenging people to play me. By this point I'm on supreme difficulty but I showed them how to play and took it easy on them, I noticed everyone learned the game by me repeating the instructions from the beginning of the game. It was too much fun and by doing this I got a feel for what Multiplayer is going to be like.

By the end of the night I was finishing up supreme using Jerett and I distinctly remember screaming "YEAH, F*** YOU ANIMUS!!". By this point I am hopelessly addicted to this game even though I wasn't a huge fan of street fighter or mortal kombat, even though I did play them.

I think the developers have a hit here with this seamless combination of the tennis mechanic with the fighting game mechanic. There's no stats to worry about, no powerups, nothing to buy, etc.. This game is all about learning the characters, figuring out how to do combos with them and practicing which is extremely fun.

The game is about as fast paced as a pinball game, pinball fantasies/dreams speed.

And if these impressions haven't swayed you enough yet, you should get this game simply to practice for the future online multiplayer that the developers are working on.

I'd talk about the UI, sound, etc.. But I think I've written enough, lets just say they're equally as awesome as the gameplay and that's what makes this title perfectly polished and 5 stars in my opinion, even without the multiplayer.

Spot on review, Dogmeat - though if you have to compare it to a fighting game, I'd pick something like Virtua Fighter - timing and choosing what to do when is key in Battle Blasters. Sure, you can spam people with fast shots, but that doesn't get you very far...

If you wanna talk pixels, I'd call this game a cross between Windjammers and Demons to Diamonds! ;)

I just played as Gabrielle, and after figuring out how to most effectivly utilize her special attack, she's a great character to play as. I'll work on nailin down Eno's later.

Lol I sorta edited the save file so I could unlock all the characters since there was NO way I'm beating supreme, let alone hard, any time soon. I can beat medium no prob, but after a fight or two in hard mode, the AI gets the best of me.

When multiplayer hits, I'll set it back to what I've done so far. I don't need to cheat online, it's just ATM I'm only playing single player and I just wanted to be able to use all the characters.

Here's my list
Jerett- Battle Blade tears it up, can take a lot of hits, and is fast enough to get the job done. Just all around a good character
BROC- if you can land one hit with his ice beam the battle is basically over if you keep spamming it
Animus- Dual Wielding is cool
Gabrielle- If you can hit with power shot you take control of the battle
Eno- Im just not very good with his special
Maya- Just don't like using her, the speed is nice though

O_o I haven't read the post yet, but I can just tell by glancing at it that it's a close-minded opinion of someone who hasn't even bothered to play this game yet. I'm not really sure why all these "commoners" (i.e. the NON super elite like me whom are sitting atop a diamond encrusted pedestal) bother to play their little fighting games. I mean, it looks like some ridiculous form of cyber tennis. Can you imagine people actually playing TENNIS as a video game? O_o

Someday you will realize that for a video game to be considered worthy of the attention of someone with my stature, it has to include a multi-tiered skill tree and characters with enormous anime eyes before I'll bother giving it a good rating without playing it. Basically, it would have to be Akira + Ninja Scroll fused together by the impact of a Naruto karate chop. Plus character classes. Then, and only then, will I possibly rate a game 5 stars before playing it. I may actually even download it and play it, if you give me a promo code. And if I enjoy the game, and as long as it's not a game that a lot of other people like, then I might even give you an iTunes review.

Until that time I'll just continue to not play the games that people really enjoy and rate them 1 star, until they come to the realization that they don't actually like those games at all and instead should be playing the games for intelligent people that I recommend. This forum would be such a lost cause without me. :rolleyes:

Agreed, those are two great games. But I want to point out that more characters and levels are at the "maybe" status right now, last I heard from the devs. It's going to depend on sales how much extra content gets added in. As far as I know,

-Bluetooth multiplayer: being tested now, definitely coming
-OpenFeint or Plus+: most likely coming, probably 90% sure
-Online multiplayer: also probably coming, but not guaranteed. I'll say 70% chance
-New characters/levels: the biggest "if" of all. Hand drawn backgrounds and character sprites are a lot of work to make, not to mention coming up with concepts for them and balancing it all into the current game. So if sales are good enough, it will warrant all the extra effort to add this in. I'd also hope the dev might consider DLC as an option for offsetting the cost of this extra content.

But I agree with you the game is totally great the way it is now, and fully worth the money. If nothing new ever came along, I'd still be a happy camper.

Well I was using Jarett but I will use whoever.

oh well that makes sense. it hard to beat jerett anyway, but with jerett it is even harder. ok so some general tips i use to help me win.

~keep shooting big shot whenever possible. this will prevent your opponent from hitting you with any fast shot.

~not really a tip but you NEED to be good at blocking. if you are not, start practicing

~once in a while, let your ammo recharge all the way and then release a wave of quick shots one right after another. one of them is bound to hit your opponent

just keep trying also. :)

As starmonkey mentioned, if you are using Jerett, try to:
-align yourself with her
-fire a few slow shots in her direction
-just as your slow shots are about to hit her, throw the knife and follow up with a few fast shots

The trick is to use a good combination of deflect, slow shots, and fast shots

I like to use that strat when playing with Jerett.

Also, don't forget to deflect.

In the new BT MP version, she also absorbs +1HP per shot, and Jerett has been weakened a bit;)

The only thing that bothers me is that if BROC can get you with his ice attack, a good player using him can win the battle by just shooting you with another ice following right behind and you will never escape. That may be the point, but it maybe could use some more balancing

This is a good point. We actually thought that as well, but in practice it is very difficult to freeze against a good player. We actually increased the speed of BROC's ice in the new version and still found that it was hard to actually freeze - the faster the opponent the harder to freeze in general.

In any case, I'd be curious to get some feedback from people that tried the game in MP against friends and what they thought about the various characters. We will continue to balance the characters.

They sure do, and while it's great that you don't know who you are facing until the game starts, it is also a lot of fun to play mirror matches with characters you usually wouldn't use...
