So recently I decided to restore my iPod and update it to 3.1.2 in order to play GTA. I had heard many times that was an easy jailbreak called blackra1n that would easily jailbreak my iPod again. The problem is that I've ran Blackra1n many many times but I just get put to this black screen and I have to press power and home to reboot my iPod. I've tried all sorts of supposed fixes but it always does the same thing. So, my question is does anyone know of any other ways to jailbreak my iPod other than Blackra1n? Or, would anyone know what I'm doing wrong.
My iPod is 2nd generation 16gb on 3.1.2 and I've tried restoring, rebooting, starting blackra1n on my mac, running it as an admin, and reading/trying methods used by others to get blackra1n working.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I have Windows, blackrain worked perfectly. For Mac you have some other choices, and I believe that there are some other programs that work well. I use http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ for information and links. I think a program Quickpwn works well for Mac.

Modmyi.com is also a great site for forums.

hmm there must be something wrong, i have never had problems with it.
1st back up your ipod.(get songs/videos/apps copies on your computer).

To get rid of any error causing programs/apps you might need to run DFU mode.

You will want to put the ipod in DFU mode.
-Plug in your ipod to your computer, and open itunes.
-Hold power button + home buttom together for 10 seconds.
-Then let go of power button but still continue to hold the home button for an additional 10 seconds. You should hear a beep/bump sound on your computer(sound has to be on).
-Your ipod should be completely off(clicking buttons does nothing) and you should see your ipod in itunes even though its off.
-click on the ipod, and shift click(windows) control click(on mac i believe) on restore, and select ipod 3.1.2 firmwire for your ipod. (you can download it HERE (http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/)).
-that will take some time, but after it is finish it will be at factory default settings.

From here download Blackra1n RC3 and bring it to your desktop.
-reboot your ipod(turn off/on) just to make it fresh(like no processes ect).
-Plug in your ipod, and close itunes if its open.
-Run Blackra1n(as admin if applicable)
-You should get a pop up from geohot saying blah blah about jailbreaking, click OK.
-Itunes will open itself, and an itunes message pops-up, CLOSE THEM, DO NOT click ok on itunes popup or it will cause alot of problems. Click X on popup and exit itunes.
-Then just wait, it takes a few mins for the 1st time. You ipod will respring and then you will be jailbroken.

THANK YOU!
I downloaded redsnow and as I type my iPod is being jailbroken. I remember now that I originally used redsnow to jailbreak 3.0.

EDIT: Jailbroken :D

Redsnow was an awesome jailbreak for 3.0... I may re-jail break with it, even though I have had no problems with Blackrain - it is just that the redsnow jailbreak was really elegant. I'll have to check it out...
