What is the best available RPG on the iPod? One where you level up, actually fight instead of clicking things (like Pet Wars), and is just a good game.

Pleas help.

I would say go with Inotia 2.

There is a control option to switch from tap to kill to d-pad. There are other great RPGs(zenonia/seed) but Inotia 2 offers way more diverse play with the awesome party system and online mode. It also has a TON of content and quests to back it all up. Very long game with fluid all around gameplay and the graphics are also top notch.

A good recommendation. I would also add Ravensword. Not as in depth an RPG, but is one of the better 3D Type games. Also, if you liked the 3D Zelda games, you may try Crusade of Destiny. In my opinion it's an underrated gem.

If your an rpg fan, Inotia 2 will make you a very happy camper. There is a ton of info on the main thread as well as threads throughout the discussion forum.

My current team is:

Main: Templar
2nd: Preist(ess)
3rd: Wizard

you'll find a lot to do with quests alone. There will be alot of equiptment customization and alchemy too.

There is a future update coming soon introducing a ranger class. That I can't wait for.

Thanks. I 2nd that choice in a major way. I didn't mention Ravensword for the same reasons you mentioned. It's more adventure(Zelda type) but with rpg elements. Ravensword is a very beautiful game. Pure gem that I really enjoy as well highly reccomend as well.

I hated Inotia 2. Check out these instead.
Dungeon hunter: You want an action rpg? This has some fun gameplay with a ton of loot and some if the best graphics on the platform.
Ravensword: A more adventure-type experience but is a ton of fun.
Wolfenstein RPG: An extremely fun game that has fallen off the radar.
The Quest: A western-style non-linear rpg that is absolutely my favorite on the platform.

Hope that helps

Yipe 5 - humorous, challenging, quest driven, just got ANOTHER huge update. Doesn't try to do more than it can or needs to.

When I first started playing it, I thought it was the greatest RPG on the platform ever. And then as I got further in, the game just seemed too repetitive. The monsters are rehashed versions just stronger. The touted Zelda-experience had one or two weak box pushing puzzles mixed in. Most of the dungeon is fully explorable from the get go. Side quests are basically all fetch quests.

It's a good game, just not as amazing as the hype led me to believe. Still, a little work can make it perfect. And so I sit here waiting for Zenonia 2 with crossed fingers. If the sequel doesn't address my issues, I'll probably get Inotia 2 instead.

Not as great as everyone says. Look at the post above yours for a few examples. Would add the incredibly annoying weight load system and the degradation of weapons meaning you need to overload your weight limit just to survive. Incredible amounts of grinding needed. It was "ok" when it first came out because there wasn't much else so one could suffer through it, but when other ones came along, bye bye zenonia. Heaps of people don't mind its flaws though so who knows. Hopefully Zenonia 2 fixes everything. Better yet, waiting for Across Age.

Edit: oh wait you did the hidden white lower case letter trick to get the post to be accepted. Knock it off, we don't like yelling.

Typical Asian RPG hater, how valid do you think your opinion is if you just put "I hate Inotia 2"?
Here's a counter-argument to your case right here.
I hate every single game other than Inotia 2 that you listed, guess that just voided your argument.

I've tried quite a few like Seed, Inotia, Inotia 2, Zenonia, etc ...

So far, they are all just badly translated JRPG kids games with a barely understandable plot riffing on concepts that got old 10 years ago, relying solely on their gameplay which is, mostly, just grinding around and doing "fetch me a stick" quests.

The only other examples which vary from that horrible formula would be The Quest series and Undercroft, both of which suffer from "ass ugly" disease as well as unintuitive interfaces which became obsolete TWENTY years ago and overly complicated inventory/quest systems.

In short, in my opinion, there isn't a "best" rpg for iDevice, just a sea of mediocrity. Lower your standards for the old iDevice.

Try finding a stick game, or a tower defense game. Maybe a game with blocks. There are loads of those.

You are pretty much correct, although I have not played Undercroft yet so I will reserve judgment on that one because Rake in Grass is an excellent developer.

Dungeon Hunter is OK if you have never ever played an RPG and just want to learn the basic mechanics. But it has a very generic feel to it. The story and enemies were as generic as i could imagine. You killed them all by hacking them and maybe casting a freeze spell on them to slow them down.

Dragon Age: Origins is now available for the Mac as well as PC if anyone wants to play a real RPG. Skip the console version if possible, the PC/MAC version is better.

Unfortunately, the best RPG on the idevices at the moment is Sword and Poker.

While a great game with solid mechanics, the fact that it is not a "true" rpg speaks volumes as to how weak the current RPG selection is atm.

Zenonia suffers from difficult controls (when a monster can take out half your health or more in a single poison-based attack, you need to be precise), a burdensome weight system, and more grinding than most people would like (although I find the grinding perfectly acceptable, this may just be because I played WoW).

Inotia 2 is plagued with strange storyline contrivances and half-completed
mechanics.

Inotia 1 is not worth the look.

Vay is...well, we call it "Oy Vey" over here.

Just sit on your haunches and wait for Zenonia 2 / FF 1+2 / Quantum Squid's new gem.
I'm waiting on Devil's gopher, which looks like a ton of wicked RPG fun + humor. Once it's out of beta (and if it has the promised MMO element) I will be laughing with glee.

The quest does not have an intuitive interface

Undercroft... it's my second favorite iTouch RPG at the moment...
Vay is the best so far! I don't know why but usually those weak graphics would kill it for me but there was just something about that game that kept me playing to the bitter end!

Am I the only one who thinks Vay is terrible?

I have not been all that satisfied by the RPGs I've played in the App Store. Zenonia was fun for about 5 hours and then it got old fast for me. And The Quest, I got frustrated by, well, the quests in it.

But it's all subjective, those two were not bad games, although Zenonia really gives off a cell-phony sort of vibe, which was kind of a turn off.

I'm looking forward to FFI&II coming out, they should (SHOULD) be good. Gotta wait though. And hopefully, it'll open the floodgates for Square games, and if that's the case, this thread will have some good stuff in it.

Why?
1. Turn based battles
2. Simple

Haha, that's probably true. I guess the question, if taken literally, could include a terrible game, as long as it's the best on the iPod.

I thought it was alright at first, but the thing that bothered me was that it was not balanced at all. I haven't played it in well over a year, but as I recall, spells did practically the same damage as melee combat, meaning that casting them was a waste of mana when you could use it for heals. And the enemies were all the same.

It's quite obvious that many of you are of the younger generation (apologies if this is not true) but how could you otherwise have missed something like iNethack? You can not get a more satisfying and real RPG (truly meaning Role Playing Game).

Sure it has no flashy graphics, sure it is over twenty years in the making but it easily beats the crap out of anything else in it's depth of play and strategy.

I admit that it completely lacks a solid storyline but that's where imagination comes in handy. :D

I think iNethack is by far the best RPG on the iDevices.. The Quest being a very far second. Oh, and it is free.

Cheers!

+1 on this... One of the few games that will take every bit of your wit and brain to beat (if you ever do). You'll probabally spend years playing this game before you ascend your first character, but you'll have a blast every step of the way. Nethack is an addiction, but an aquired taste for sure.
