I am sure I am not the only one here who is little bit older and who spent his youth playing some true classics on C64, Spectrum and Amiga...

Yes you can call me bit of a retro freak ;)

In any case, treat this thread as "wish list" of the games YOU would like to see converted or remade for iPhone or Touch.

Here is mine to start with:

1. Laser Squad

I am pretty much craving for decent turn base strategy and what's better than Laser Squad / X-Com conversion! I also think it would suite the platform rather nicely too :)

2. Xennon 2 Megablast

For hezuz sake how hard really is to make decent vertical shooter!?!? I mean we have ideal platform for it and everyone seems to be doing utter vertical shooting crap for it... Can someone please step back and provide us with Xennon 2 type of experience - pretty please!

3. Monkey Island

Point and click adventures were great! They died only coz of utter noobs and idiots with no frekn IQ or sense of fun... And again, we have great platform here for solid point and click adventure. Solid one! Not crap one :) Something like Monkey Island or Beneath the Steal Sky or similar...

4. Dizzy Series (suggested by Diablohead)

As good platformer gets really (well almost lol)! Bring back the EGG! eeeeeeeee

5. Turrican 2 (suggested by Your Personal Robot)

I remember spending age grinding through dozens upon dozens of insane levels. Not sure how it would play on i device but great suggestion anyway :)

That will do for now...

In case you have something "good and old" you would love to see running on i devices please post!

Who knows we might even inspire someone with this thread :p

The old Contra games or Metroid. For something really obscure maybe Jet Force Gemini. And I'm only 14 so these "retro" games may not be so retro.

Eh, I could do without either. Though they are classics. I'd rather have Duck Hunt! Oh, I forgot, there's already an illegal port! BTW, you should pick it up before Apple takes it away.

I don't know. People actually said it just, slipped through. It never had Nintendo's permission and is being considered for a possible lawsuit. A flippin' lawsuit over Duck Hunt!

The dev can definitely get in trouble, but there's no penalty for us buying it. Although, the more copies he sells, the worse Nintendo is going to hit him.

The only penalty we might endure is if the lawsuit happens Apple might use that blasted app killswitch:eek:! And I hope he doesn't get slammed.

I disabled the killswitch.
I don't think nintendo cares. They have so much money if they sued this guy it would make them look like a bunch of selfish bastards IMO.

I have actually been thinking that someone should port X-com or make an x-com game.

and I bet MoM or MOO could be ported over also.

If we want to go real retro C-64, there was a great Risk/Tactical Strategy type game called Lords of Conquest that would be a great port.

Classic arcade games I would like to see, Galaga (which I am sure will show up eventually), Mappy, Major Havoc and Tempest.

In no particular order....

Tempest
Archon (it's being ported....YAY!)
Shadowgate
Deja Vu
Uninvited
Stellar 7 / Nova 9
Myst (supposedly, it is being ported...YAY!)
MAME
Defender
Battlezone (Vector Tanks looks like a much better version!)
Master of Magic
Harpoon

Bounty Bob. I'd love to see that old Commodore 64 game ported. I spent hours and hours playing that game when I was younger. It's a basic platform game. Bounty Bob is a miner who has to collect items while avoiding monsters and finishing each level before the time runs out. You couldn't save the game you had to play all the levels from start to finish. I managed to finish it a few times. It was a cutting edge game in its day. But by todays standards it is "super lame" but I just love it and would like to play it again!

I used to be a die hard palm gamer. I've had 7 different palm pilots. Until I got my iPod touch. Then I sold the last Palm I owned fast because what I had was way better than the Palm.

There was one little game I used to play all the time on the Palm and I'd love to see an updated (pretty looking) version of it on the iPod touch/iPhone. It was called Space Trader. It was basically Dope Wars in space, but it had other elements that just made it fun. Upgrades to the ship, stealing from other ships, running from the police ships, you could be good or bad. It was a stellar game and it was free! I'd love to play it again.

I'd love to see some more remakes of these classics. I'm currently playing a lot of Ballblazer, a very nice remake of the C64 game by Lucasfilm.

the two that I suggested before:

Bank Panic, not the g&w version that's out, but the old sega arcade game, or a take on it, since I don't think sega is developing that ip ever again.

Sundog: Frozen Legacy for the Apple 2, there's been a port of it being made for pc's for years, but I don't think it'll ever go anywhere, it's been kinda open sourced. There are assets in base form online, and I have a feeling that the original dev would probably give the game his ok... it was basically a space trading game, you went from system to system and planet to planet, could get into space battles, you could walk around your ship from a top down view (it was very early so you were a dot and the ship was a flat outline :P Either that game or something based on a star control type of game.

and maybe something like bards tale for the C64 :P I spent way too much time running around Skara Brae when I was little...

Maybe I just missed it, but with all the talk of Commodore 64, how about M.U.L.E.? Another cool C64 remake would be Countdown to Shutdown.

As for the Amiga, I'd love to see either Blood Money or Shadow Of The Beast. And, if you want to get really silly, how about a remake of The Three Stooges?

Would Phantasmagoria work? I've never played it but I know some of the devs that made it. His daughters also just happened to lend their voices for the game.

Wordslinger

I don't think Phantasmagoria would work. That game used full motion video spread across seven CDs. They'd have to use some serious compression.

How about Defender of the Crown? If ever a game lend itself to being touch screen friendly!

Also, old Psygnosis titles like Barbarian, or (I agree w/previous poster), Shadow of the Beast.

Even Fairy Tale Adventure could be fun time waster.

Great Topic! I read a few posts regarding ports of X-Com and Monkey Island. Couldn't agree more, though I'd open up the monkey island aspect again and include just about all Lucas Arts adventure games (grim fandango would be at the top).

So, here's the all time dream list for me:

1) Dungeon Keeper
2) Grim Fandango (actually, any Lucas Art adventure game)
3) Magic the Gathering (a port of the 1995 pc game would be cool, though a full port of magic the gathering online would be brilliant)
4) Empire Earth (or just about any in depth RTS in a similar vein)
5) Top Shop (Cheeky Play Station Board Game)
6) Last Call (Bar Tending PC Game)

So, there you go (hint hint).. I mean, what better way to milk a title for every last red cent than to port it to a ubiquitous device such as the iphone and bring it to the light of a new generation, eh??? Here's to wishful thinking.

I am not sure but some SCUMMVM games are showing up individually in the Store. I heard that the version of Sonic here is more or less based on an available emulator. Also when in-game purchase is available in 3.0, I would not be surprised by Apple finally approves some emulator-like apps.

[EDIT] Personally, I would rather see Master of Magic and or Master of Orion instead of Magic the Gathering. The computer versions of MtG are not that great.

Also, I would like to see Sid's Pirates! here, at least the sea battle part. Current games featuring sail ship battles are less than stellar in from of the "primitive" Pirates!

One post referes to Harpoon (or Harpoon Classics to be exact), I am not sure how difficult it would be to bring this in by the number layers of menus and commands, I just don't want to see another game part (name forgotten) with dialogs and controls so small and congested which is simply unplayable.

I think DEFCON may stand a better chance:

Monkey Island 3 works as a charm in scummvm. 100% playable with sound and music enabled, and all videos, fx etc etc... i am close to end the game for third time!!!

I also end in my iphone Beneath a Steel Sky and Full throttle. The broken sword series also works with their videos etc etc...

I have to say that i made the jailbreak just to play scummvm.

Here is the game list: Compatibility list (http://www.scummvm.org/compatibility/)

And here the app: App download (http://www.scummvm.org/downloads/)
