Name: IMO: The World of Magic
Developer: Com2uS
Current Status: CLOSED BETA
Release Date: To be Announced
Price: To be Announced
Category: Game (Role Playing, Online)
Rating: 9.3/10
This game is overall very polished and full of features, but still has a few bugs. The game is slightly over-challenging, but is a must have for MMORPG, RPG, and online game fans.
Com2uS has announced it’s upcoming MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) IMO: The World of Magic. No release date has been set yet, and it is currently under the beta testing stage.
IMO, the first fully-featured MMORPG on the iPhone.
IMO will revolutionize online games on the iPhone with
- Massive Online World (over 30 zones)
- Social Networking:
guilds, party system, friends list, chatting
- Character customization:
3 unique classes, over 50 skills, trading shops
When you first launch IMO, it presents you with a beautifully created splash screen showing some of the characters.

You touch the screen to continue, and it brings you to a login screen, like all other MMORPGs. Here, you can choose to login, create an account, or switch accounts.

Next, you arrive at the server selection page. Here you choose what server you will play on. There is currently only one beta testing server.

After choosing your server, you can choose to create a new character, select a character, or delete a character.
In the character creation screen, you can choose your character’s faction, gender, hairstyle, hair colour, and class. There are 3 classes, fighter (warrior), ranger (archer), and mage (magician). Next, you can add stats (STR, DEX, INT, CON, etc.) to your character. Make sure you choose wisely, as these cannot be changed after the character is created (you do not add stat points after leveling).
After creating/selecting your character, you will be teleported to either the starting town if your new (the city depends on your faction), or wherever you left off last time you played.
From there, you are free to do what you want. You can choose to go train on monsters, do quests, or start socializing. At this time, it’s pretty hard to tell which NPCs do what, but hopefully that’ll improve when the game is released in the App Store.
The fighting system is based on locking onto the monster and attacking. At the moment, the auto lock isn’t that good, so most of the time you tap the monster to lock on. Depending on what class you are, you will have different basic attacks, and different skills.
The skill system is a bit hard to understand. You have skill points, and skill books. At the beginning, you get the basic skill’s level 1 skill book. By using a skill book, you unlock a level of the skill, and then you must use a skill point to actually increase the level of the skill. You can buy low level skill books from an NPC, but higher level ones require you to kill monsters for them.
The pause menu is a big part of the game, and allows access to most of the games features (well it doesn’t really pause, since it is an online game). When you first open the pause menu, you will see the character status page.
Here, it shows you your character’s image, stats, gender, class, experience, and faction.
The next menu is the inventory menu.
Here, you can equip items, arrange your inventory, drop items, check your armour, and how much money you have. You can also drag potions or other consumable to a quick slot.
The community menu is next.
Here, you can check your guild, friends, and blocked people. You can create a guild by talking to the guild master, free of charge. To invite people, you go to the system menu, and use the command guild invite. You can see which members of your guild are online, and you can select certain people to be guild officers (guild officers can invite and kick people from the guild). You can add friends, and also choose to block people whom you dislike.
The skills menu is after this.
Here, you can see the descriptions of skills, add stat points to skills, and see how much damage each skill does. There is a skill tree, showing all the skills available to your character, from the level 2 beginner skill, to the level 40 ultimate skills.
Next, comes the map.
The map shows the portals to other maps, and on the right is a picture of the hardest monster available in the map. It currently does not show other players, but future updates might add this function.
Finally, there is the system menu.
Here, you can choose your settings, invite people to a party, kick people from a party, choose the settings for a party, invite/kick people from your guild (if you are the master or an officer), approve and disapprove officers, and a variety of other things.
There is also an economy in the game, consisting of NPCs and trading. There are normal shop NPCs that sell you potions, armours, weapons, and a limited amount of skill books. Also, there are trader NPCs that allow you to put your items up for sale, and buy other peoples items. There is a normal trader, and a black market trader. The normal trader sells your items to characters who are in the same faction as you at a certain commission. The black market trader makes your items available to characters in both factions, but increasing the commission cost.
Overall, this game actually is “the first full-featured MMORPG for the iPhone/iPod touch” in my opinion. It is the only online game that allows you to interact with other users at this level, and with such a big world and large amount of NPCs.
