As everyone knows, Final Fantasy I and II are coming to iDevices. I've recently taken an interest in the series, and I was wondering, what game will you get and why?

I already preordered Final Fantasy XIII and I don't think I'll be playing the iPhone ones. Because of my addiction though I'll probably still buy them FML.

Final Fantasy II, it's the better of the two and I'm interested to see how well the game handles on a touchscreen.

Both for sure, but FFII was the first one I played on the good old SNES. I remember paying $89.95 and playing for about 6-8 hours a day until I finished it. What a great game that was. FFII and FFIII were the best for me. :)

Will I really play them again? That's hard to tell, but I will absolutely buy them just to have them with me all the time :) :) :)

Had the second until recently, still pretty good. The first exists only in my vague memories. They are good memories though. Perhaps it will not live up to what I remember. I doubt it though. For some reason I think they will be great!:)

Much better comment. Still do not agree. By iPhone/Pod standards these games should be quite large. Even by console standards they are long. That is a hallmark of this series.

From the IGN review of the PSP version:

That's especially true for veterans of the GBA remake, Dawn of Souls. This 20th anniversary edition may benefit from new visuals, redone music and a bonus dungeon, but other than that the content is exactly the same -- right down to the easier difficulty level and additional areas

I will purchase both. I owned Final Fantasy I from the day it came out on my ancient NES. I wasn't very old at the time, maybe 12ish, but I played that game till it was no more. Since that time I have randomly picked it up and finished it and I really am excited about the prospect of playing it a little at a time.

As for the comments about it being a child's game, it's in fact one of the more difficult games in the series, that is unless you follow a strategy guide. Even then it's no walk in the park.

Additionally, Square Enix, at the time Squaresoft, really helped to revolutionize a genre that could have easily found itself dead. I believe any modern RPG owes at least a little respect to the original masterpiece that is FFI.

I couldn't agree more the Final Fantasy games are great. I personally am getting both I and II hope the pod remakes do them justice. On a lesser note I hope they release Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantasy Tactics Adv. for the Iphone/Ipod.

Are you aware that this is a remake of the original Final Fantasy II for NES, not Final Fantasy IV (known as Final Fantasy II in America) for SNES? They are different games.

Personally I don't really care that much. It will still be a much richer game than any other console-style RPG on the platform.

Actually, FF7 weighs in at around 1.3 GB as a PS1 Classic. Still a long shot, but a bit more doable than 2-4 GB.

I should also add that FF7 has not been officially ported to any portable/handheld platform. The chances that it would come to the iPhone first are pretty much nil (unfortunately).

Chrono Trigger, however, is another matter altogether :).

II, barely. I essentially has no storyline, it's just "You are the warriors of light! Go defeat the bad guy and save the world!" And then you dungeon crawl. II has actual character interaction, but it's incredibly basic. The series didn't really begin to develop the storylines it's become associated with until the fourth installment.

I'm pretty sure that this isn't the FFII that you played as a kid. This is a remake of the Japanese only FFII, what you played is actually FFIV in Japan (and the FFIII you played would be FFVI).

The FFI will probably make its way onto my phone eventually, but I'll not be purchasing II again. the advancement system in it is broken: even one of the original devs referred to it as a failed experiment.

Nothing breaks your immersion in a game more than having to beat on your fellow party members to keep them advancing needed skills and stats.

They were never going to port SFIV to wii because they got tatsunoko vs capcom and chrono trigger is great but will work bad with invisible d-pad. The world ends with you won't work because iphone touch screen is too sensitive and less precise. Ds has alot of precision

FF7 would be fairly epic on the phone, and the hardware would support it... but unless 1&2 do really well, they wont be quick to port the rest of the series over. Which is a poor business decision imo. 1&2 are nostalgic, but not amazing. FF7 is still epic.

I would disagree. FFI is very good and FFII(US) is amazing and FFIII(US) is epic and the best of the series in my opinion :)

I am not a huge fan of FFVII personally. The first 3 are pure classic Final Fantasy to me. The style and gameplay changed after that and some like it better and some don't :)

I agree and that's why I have no interest to have all kinds of old NES, SNES....etc on my iphone. I want games that are made specifically for the idevice.

Been there and done that..............having thousands of old games just creates a mess in the end. It's better to pick up games one at a time and pay for them and enjoy them. I learned that the hard way.

I suspect these games will be the "easy type" versions that already appeared on the GBA and PSP (opposed to the "normal" and "hard type" on FF Origins for PS1).

If this will be the case, I'll buy only FF2, as I find it playable and enjoyable even on easy type.

FF1 easy type, on the contrary, is just a chore to play for me. Too easy, and too many boring battles.
