Why does no-one seem to like Real Soccer? lol
Real Soccer 10 ?
That game is terrible, IMO.
The graphics are bad, the controls aren't the best, and the online multiplayer is very laggy.

Crap! I really hoped EA would move away from the 2 button approach. I hated the slide your finger from A to B to A then double tap B and quickly slide back to A just do the simplest things like a through ball. It was BS! And I never got the cross right, if I held it for long enough to actually get the length I wanted it registered it just as a along the ground pass, meaning if I actually wanted to go for a cross it only went for about 2m, it killed the game for me. O and the crap efforts for team kits, most werent even close, atleast for the Phoenix, if they include club sides in this.

from pocketgamer http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/2010+FIFA+World+Cup+South+Africa/news.asp?c=19925
The 2010 FIFA World Cup is just around the corner and EA Mobile's iPhone and iPod touch take on the football's biggest event is even closer.
Ahead of its April 30th release, we asked producer Dean Bennett a few key questions about what 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa brings to the pitch.
Having worked on everything from Medal of Honor to Pictionary, he joined the FIFA series beginning with FIFA 08, and he was part of the team that crafted last year's introductory iPhone instalment.
What is the most substantial improvement made in 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa over FIFA 10?
The most substantial improvement is to the controls and the AI. The game has been made much easier to play. It's a soccer game for everyone. Besides that, there is the all additional work around the tournament adding the ten authentic stadia, over 100 teams, and so on.
What defines this game as unique from the main annual FIFA series?
It's the FIFA World Cup! It's the only way to play the official tournament with all the players and teams on mobile and iPhone. FIFA 10 is about league teams and championship winning seasons, this game is about gaining glory for your nation in the greatest football tournament on the planet!
What tweaking, tuning, and additions have been made to the controls? How have they been improved since the last game?
The controls have been greatly simplified. FIFA 10 offered tremendous depth in what could be achieved but for the casual user the difficulty curve could be daunting. You had to invest time in it.
In our quest to make the game easier to play, we first looked at the passing. We have opted to present the user with two passing options, a short and a long pass. These are made by a tap of the 'pass' button or a hold of the 'pass' button respectively.
In addition to this, we made through balls and attacking passes context-sensitive. When a good opportunity to play one of these balls is present then a huge yellow arrow shows you where the ball can be played and tapping 'pass' at that point will make the pass.
Other changes were to how the receiver gets the ball. We have tightened up his control at reception so the user doesn't move out of the ball's trajectory before he gets it.
We have adjusted the level of AI fouling in the game. This means you are less likely to get a red card for a tough slide tackle although we also tried to ensure that the opposing team does get called for fouls themselves.
What about skill moves?
We moved skill moves onto a separate button that only appears after you have had the ball for a short amount of time. Again, it's about making something easier and more obvious.
Lastly, with the controls we did something that might seem insubstantial but in fact it has made a big impact in how accessible the game is.
We put the word for the moves on the buttons and made them context sensitive. So for example, the 'pass' button says 'Pass', and the shoot - well, can you guess?
These change when on defence to 'Tackle' and 'Slide.' So there is never any confusion about which button does what in any situation.
Some players felt FIFA 10 was strict and dealt too many penalty cards. Has that been altered in any way?
We said, "Hey you know what? Getting a red card is not fun. If it is not fun let's try and make it not happen so much." However, if you ramp up the difficulty to one of the higher settings expect that loosening of the rules to be revoked and the referees to reach for a card more often.
Will multiplayer be offered? If so, will it be local and/or online?
Yes, we offer all three types of game, Friendly, Captain Your Country and Penalty Shootout by Bluetooth or local wi-fi.
Why should a football fan pick FIFA over a competing franchise?
That's easy - I've enjoyed some other football games but nothing offers the depth, longevity and authenticity of FIFA. If you want to replicate the drama of the World cup, maybe re-write history, you can only do that with 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa!
Who are your top picks going into South Africa?
Well being a Brit, I'd love to say England but the truth is we will probably go out via penalties at the quarter finals. Most likely to Germany!
My top picks are Spain, an awesome passing side who might just be at the peak of their prowess this summer and also The Netherlands. They have some top players like Van Bommel and Huntelaar although the fitness of Robin van Persie is going to be crucial for them.
An outside chance is the Ivory Coast who have perhaps one of the World's best strikers in Didier Drogba and now have Sven Goran Eriksson as their manager. I think the USA will do well too, but hopefully not too well as they are in the same group as England! That's going to be a great match!
Thanks to Dean for his time. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will be available for iPhone and iPod touch April 30.

That's big talk, to say this will out do X2 Soccer. After extensive gameplay, I consider FIFA 10 and X2 09 neck and neck. They both were strong and weak, in areas that the other wasn't. It will be interesting to see what improvements were made in the upcoming versions of both games and how they compare. To me, Real Soccer 09 wasn't even in the same league as these two games.

In FIFA 10 you worked to score goals, and it actually felt like you achieved something when you did. It wasn't a perfect game, but it was much better than X2, in which the only achievement was remembering to push the shoot button when you could see the goal on the screen. It was so easy to score goals that playing was pointless. Not to mention the absolutely terrible running animations.
To be honest, it looks like this new game isn't going to be that great; big yellow arrows to give you a hint when to play a through ball? How simple do they want the game to be?

04-26-2010, 11:46 PM
IMO FIFA 10 is far better than x2 2009. i like the way EA implemented the control schemes coz the game became more challenging and gave gamers a chance to make fantastic plays or how you would score a goal... The only main drawback for me in FIFA 10 is the inability to save goals and post it in youtube.
This should be out in the US by now right?

FIFA 2010 is buggy as hell and EA never bothered fixing some major bugs like the roster being shuffled and player performance stats getting messed up completely during a season...I gave up because of these bugs and EA not fixing them. It will be the same here - EA isn't changing the way they operate.
Am eagerly waiting for X2 2010...

FIFA 10's controls suck. The players would move before the ball reached them. This game fixes all of that.

Guys, really, I've read like 5 different sites on this game, and it's due out this Friday. Honestly, when EA give out press releases for a game as a whole, they don't care about the iPhone.
Until they do, we shall take April 30th as a release date. :)

So far, it would seem as though EA hasn't really accepted the iDevices in with the other systems, as a respected gaming console. I say his because ever since last year when they started releasing big titles, there has been the same pattern. They will announce a supposed official release date for a game and the iPhone/ iPod version won't get until released, until weeks or months after the other systems ( ex. Madden 10, Need For Speed: Shift, and now Mirror's Edge ). Yesterday, I watched an interview with the Madden 11 developers. At the conclusion of the interview, he specifically named all the consoles and handhelds that it will be released on, come August 10, 2010. So I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
hobbitrjw27
04-28-2010, 02:04 PM
Well if that's the case I can see this game not selling too well on the app store because if as you say it is going to be weeks or months late getting out for the idevices, people won't want to wait that long while the other consoles already have the game out and in stores. Personally I think EA needs to fire whomever sent out the press release stating the release date for the idevices was April 27th,especially if they have no intentions of releaseing it on time.
