The launch of "iPhone 2.0" and the iTunes App Store will take place in late June. On that day, purchasing a game for the iPhone can be done quickly, easily, and from just about anywhere.

On day one, many games will be available for download and many more will be coming in the weeks and months (and years) ahead.

Which games do you want to see land on the iPhone platform? Any old school classics or modern favorites you're dying for?

Worms ^^ 2D version ("worms 2"-like, something like N-Gage port) ... and guess what... it may happen, Team 17 said something about it just after march 6:

http://www.techradar.com/news/gaming/handheld-accessories/iphone-gaming-worms-on-the-way-259328

But my true wish "Rez" port by Sega, best beat game i ever seen ^^ Sample:

Why not use touch in this game? ;]

Sony's Wipeout would be one that I think would "feel" right on the iPhone. It's another racing type game, but somehow the use of accelerometer seems like it would work out just right.

I think someone should make an NHL game for the iPhone (And yes, I am Canadian :D)

The controls would be simple. You use the accelerometer to move your player around. To shoot, you flick the screen in the direction you want to shoot, and do a down then up motion for slap shots (very similar to NHL 08 skill stick). To pass, you just slide your finger in the direction of the player you want to pass to to. Other various moves:

Change player: double tap
Check Player: tap other team's player
Poke Check: hold finger down on touch screen

BTW, Anyone can use my idea (I don't have a mac, so I can't program this). Just PM me if you are going to use my idea (and put me in the credits!!!).

All comments are welcome (don't flame me if you don't like my idea, please!).

Good notion. I'm a huge Wipeout fan ( obviously (http://flickr.com/photos/blakespot/2379757063/in/set-72157604341850766/) ). Tilt control could add to the game. We might get a taste for this in the soon-to-be-released Wipeout HD coming for the Playstation 3, as the SIXAXIS controller is accelerometer-equipped. Would love to see the franchise land on the iPhone.

But...it's unlikely. Sony owns Psygnosis who is behind Wipeout. And...well...you know who makes the PSP...

Making the fighting game for touch screen might be difficult ;> someone need to invent good fighting input first for touch screen only device. Visual buttons are simply to flat and slow.

I think we gonna see it ^^ and i think it will be free ;]

Yeah, Lemmings would be cool.... but theres a problem, same as WipeOut, Lemmings is creation of Psygnosis owned by Sony (creator of PSP ;p)... so if market will treat iPhone OS as a gaming platform, we would not see Lemmings on it.

As a long time lover of all turn based strategy I would love to see something like the Final Fantasy tactics games or even the Tactics Ogre games. I think it's the perfect platform to just pick it up, play a few turns, then move on. Someone has to be doing this, right?

A nice RPG would be great, esp. with an online option.

A good trivia game. Heck, even the music one that's on the traditional iPods would be nice. Internet access will mean the ability to get new content, which will be nice.

Multiplayer-I've used games like Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit with friends on my Treo, and it's been great to have a way to play together while waiting around.

I also agree with an earlier poster, Wipeout would be perfect....but as mentioned, I suspect that won't make it to the iPhone b/c of Sony =/

Lets see a First-Person WWII game, possible a take on BF1942...that CAN work on the iPhone, technically speaking, and a Nascar or street racing game...no fantasy racing crap like CroMag.

I'd like to see a lot more bona fide retro classic arcade titles, such as Sega's OutRun, Power Drift & Super Monaco GP. Also, arcade classics like R-Type, Track & Field, Pole Position, etc, but not at the £5.99($9.99) price point. I feel that's a little too high for these older titles. I'd be more happy with £2.99.

I have these all in MAME on my PC, but it'd be sooo much cooler to have them portable :D

I have always wanted to be able to get French products (audibooks, games for iPod) from iTunes and have been frustrated by it's unability to sell French versions of things unless you are in the France site - and then it tells you that US members can't buy that. I hope that the App Store unites all the languages - maybe a filter to select; English, Spanish, French, German etc. so that you can get to the foreign language games easier. Even better would be that the App Store responds to the current language setting of the phone and offers the apps accordingly to the setting.....

This has always been missing in iTunes in my opinion. It seems that they don't get that a lot of foreigners live in America.

Favorite Games: FADE (strategy/role play), Motus (word game), Blockbuster (breaks up bricks using a paddle that bounces them back up toward the bricks)

Thanks for everything.

As others have pointed out, I'd like to see song summoner ported to the Touch so I can actually play it. More RPGs like Vay(which I'm going to buy pretty soon) would be awesome. A hack and slash game like diablo, as one other has mentioned, or a Zelda clone would be fantastic.

But honestly, the first game that came to mind when I saw this thread title was Patapon, which is out for PSP. Patapon is a sidescrolling rhythm/strategy-war game that would, at least at first glance, be perfect for the Touch/iPhone.

btw, this is my first post here. Thanks for the great site!

I would love to see a good 2D/3D platform game in the vein of Mario Bros. & Rachet & Clank.

Also someone mentioned 'Wipeout' which would be awesome! I don't think the Sony connection would be a problem as isn't 'Crash Bandicoot' an in house development? and that's on the iPhone.

2. Plasma Pong (yes, I know the obvious obstacles)
3. Ragdoll Masters

I'd also like to add that it might be interesting to be able to use the touch or iPhone as a wireless or wired game controller on the computer. I know that without tactile feedback it might not make a whole lot of sense, but I can think of a couple situations where it might work.

Another game idea, any SNES rpg or a star fox type space/air combat sim.

I would like to see some old Amiga and 80's type games.

Here is a list of games I used to love that would be brilliant on the touch screen.

Turn based, old school, RPG's would just be perfect for the touch interface.. I used to love the Phantasie series and the Dragonlance games. Phantasie III for the win for me.

Don't forget Dungeon Master.

Ports of Call. I used to play this for hours with friends.

Marble Madness! This game was made for the iPhone, just 25 years early.

Any of the LucasArts games. The Scumm engine would translate beautifully, as already mentioned earlier.

Defender of the Crown.

Soccer management games.

Omni Play Horse Racing. Still the greatest horse racing game ever.

There are a few that I can't remember the names of. I'll post them when I remember.

Turn based strategies, like Civilisation, Populous, Powermonger or the Sim City Games (and its variants)

Battle Chess

That'll do for now.

Yeah, I've been playing Vay. Let me just say that it's a good start. I'm happy to see the caliber of games that the iPhone/iPod Touch has the potential to support. That said, compared to other RPGs of its era, Vay is pretty... shall we say, ordinary. The plot is okay, gameplay is pretty vanilla, and it's very difficult to tell what equipment I should or should not buy from stores. And I don't know what my items do until I save, experiment, and then load again.

I will, of course, continue to enjoy the game and complete it, but if we're going to get a game like this, I hope there will be more RPGs in the style of the Square SNES ones, or maybe the Lufia series. This is where my comment came from. :)

True, but I'm enjoying beating on people now that I have an army. Still, it does not hold my attention like it once did.

It would be nice if instead of only being PVP, it had some PVE as well. Or at least some computer run towns that you could attack without upsetting the neighbors.

It may be buried in here somewhere...but a fighter pilot game would be cool.

I remember a simple one from the Atari 400/800 days where you flew a sopwith camel. It was first person view I believe.

It would use the accelerometer for control and a touch button to shoot. Maybe a slider on one side for acceleration.

That would be good with wifi or 3g as well I think if it could be multi-player.

id like to see games like patapon, castle crashers, flow, dungeon seige/zelda type game, little big planet type of game, eden, aquaria, lode runner, someone already mentioned rolando (That game looks GREAT)ect....... bascially all those indy type games that XLBA and PSN are grabbing up all over...

those games are so MADE for the iphone.... they are more cerebral with action, and use tons of physics, and the tilt of the phone/touch is made for these.

thats what i love about this platform, the games transcend what the device was made for : phone calls. these games push the phone/touch into more consumers hands just for the fact of being able to play these indy games that will never show up on nintendo DS or the playstation portable..

loco roco WOULD make a good one. BUT its made by sony, and once again like wipeout was mentioned, i doubt theyd do anything to jepordize their psp. i have a psp, but personally i love ipod touch/iphones way more because a. you can access games and buy new content virtually anywhere. and b. devs can over-the-air-update all the time to fix bugs. also iphone apps seem to be more down to earth and by posting reviews/comments in the app store you feel like youre actually connecting with the devs and helping them fix bugs, rather than complain about a shitty ds/psp game you bought that wont ever get any better.

as far as seeing games come to the ipod. i wouldnt mind some that used on screen buttons. the accelerometer is cool, but alot of games make it impossible to play laying in bed like monkey ball, graal, or crash racing.

since im not jailbreaking my ipod, id like to see a tony hawk game with on screen controls to the app store. if they could somehow make a few decent fps's (im hoping ID will) id like to see how well they work on the ipod.

Anyone remember the old Mac game Pararena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pararena)? You play against the computer player in a sort of futuristic dish-shaped arena and try to get the ball into the opponent's goal. You collide with the opponent and try to get him/her out of the way to clear yourself a path to throw the ball into the goal.

This game would be perfect for the touch/accelerometer controls.

The game Okami (Wii, PS2) would be absolutely perfect if they added a couple of buttons. Lost Winds (WiiWare) would be pretty cool as well. Anyone ever heard of Spogs Racing? It's another wiiware title it would be nice as another accelerometer racing game.

outrun 2.

lets put this baby to the test. It has done a sterling job of monkey ball.

use the tilt controls and use the crash bandicoot controls, but much better graphics.

graphics do not make a good game, but new users will be amazed at what this device can produce.

I have heard this phone is as good as a dreamcast, which is so promising i cannot believe.

Hey guys... uni student/part time developer considering competing with the big guys.

I figure this is the best place to determine whether it's worth the sleepless nights :P

How much interest do you think there'd be in a vertical scrolling shooter game? Somewhat like the old ones that were big in the arcade/DOS era such as Tyrian, Flying Shark (or Sky Shark), Raptor, Xenon and various others...

When I was younger, this was my favourite game style, but I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread yet.

Spore Origins is coming out for $9.99 for iPhone and touch on Sept. 7th, but I'm not sure if it'll have a full fledged creature. There are also many doom wanna-be's but none that has the depth to follow in the footsteps of the DOOM franchise. I would love to see a real DOOM happen. Sketch Fighter (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/Sketchfighter/) for Mac OS X looks like it'd be pretty awesome for the iPhone/iPod touch. PocketGamer suggested it'd be good on the DS, (http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Various/Loose+Threads/news.asp?c=8029&srch=sketch+fighter) but I thought it'd be good on the iPhone, too.

I'd love to see some kind of Sonic the Hedgehog game, but not necessarily the old Megadrive/Genesis port (although that would probably be easy enough). Even 2D would be brilliant, if graphics were high quality and the series returned to it's roots - Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Eggman. You don't need anything else. :)

Also, a port of Crash Bandicoot 1 would be great, however I'm not sure that Sony would make one for the iPhone...

I think a Diablo port would be fantastic! Maybe if Blizzard wouldn't jump on board, maybe someone will make a game on the same type engine but with different name.

I also would loooooove to see a version of Sega's Shenmue.

I've even been thinking of ways they could control the game as far as exploration and moving around.

"Hold" one finger on the screen and pan around to look around a room, pinch and un-pinch to zoom in on detailed items. (on store shelves, etc...)

"Single Tap" to walk down streets towards direction desired.

"Double Tap" to run.

"Single Tap" on pedestrians to interact.

And think of all the mini games, maybe with some new (iphone specific) type games to utilize the iphone tilting. To perform actions in a interactive cutscene it would be as simple as swiping or maybe touching one of the four corners of the screen when prompted to do so.

Oldskool Shenmue players know what I'm talkin' about and if you don't, just youtube some "Sega Shenmue" vids.

Oh and what about another simple game like SkeeBall

As a turn-based strategy game, with originally a 800x600 resolution, very nice but "easy computed" graphics, no need for keyboard, I think it would be not too difficult to port it to iPhone/iPod Touch...

Shenmue, the Chao A.L.I.F.E. simulator from Sonic Adventure 2, Mirror's Edge ( I know this is a stretch but with the right dev it could reach Breakdown levels of awesome ) The DS Final Fantasy remakes but with high quality visuals NO JAGGIES! But of course I'm sure that one is just a mater of time... Portal, this is also a stretch but... I've got it on good authority that Valve is considering it. Midnight Club, also very doable. StarCraft & WarCraft come on you know you want it, and also proabably really really capable of being technically done, but since Bilzzard doesn't do other systems as of yet, I'd settle for a nice HD version of Warlocked or even ( I'm not sure I got the name right ) Moon Patrol. Uhmmm lets see... oh and my all time number one vote for the ultimate iPhone game? Easy, Skies of Arcadia Legends, sooooo easily doable spec wise and controls, touch for battles and a switched perspective touch and go similar to a Diablo or Vay but also with a classic view too come on you KNOW you want Skies! Oh snap! I know what would be perfect for iPhone! REZ! YES!

Coming to this thread late, but Track & Field would be just perfect.

I'm bringing this up for the second time, but anyone who's ever heard of Okami or played it on a ps2 or wii knows that its an awesome game. Its just a masterpiece, and with a couple of on-screen buttons, possibly accelerometer integration, and the obvious touch screen "celestial brush", this game would be a hit. A spin off instead of a port would probably be best though.

Maybe not the greatest of games, but I always loved playing Drug Wars on my Palm when I was on long flights. Although I remember getting some strange looks when I got frustrated one game and sad, "Crap what just happened to the price of Cocaine?!" a little too loudly. Doubtful that Apple would let it go through...

Ok. These two are the ones that I am dying to see. They are interactive buddy and Insaniquarium. Interactive buddy (for those who don't know) is a game in which you basically beat up a bunch of circles shaped as a very rotund person. Insaniquarium is made by Popcap Games, so this one may actually land, as Popcap is active in the App Store. It is a game where you try to keep fish alive, against your own carnivorous fish and monsters such as lionfish and aliens. It is extremely fun and could easily be ported to iPhone. Both are online flash games. You can find both here (http://www.popcap.com/games/free/insaniquarium) and here (http://www.addictinggames.com/interactivebuddy.html)

Both are really good time wasters and would be great on iPhone

Pokemon (all of them) blue, red, yellow, saphire, ruby, i would probably buy them if you would also be able to exchange pokemon and do pokemon fights via multiplayer/wifi. also sonic the hedgehog, GTA, worms would be awesome, bloons tower defense, PES or FIFA but with same functions as on psp. RS would be enough if multiplayer were introduced. i would any of the psp games to iphone, cos the iphone just rocks. (But POKEMON. PLEAASE DEVELOPERS. POKEMON IS MY GREATEST WISH. IT IS WHAT I MISS MOST SINCE SELLING MY GAMEBOY ADVANCE SP)

Wow, you're being ambitious, aren't you. And GTA, really. Bloons would be nice, but I see Ninjakiwi a)charging for it and b)spending that money to not make a profit. Whoever you are are really ambitious about this. how could you play any of these without a d-pad. I personally would need a tactile d-pad for these, a virtual one would be difficult with these. Pokemon is made by Nintendo, a competing platform. You can forget that one.

I would love to have FATE on the iphone ---- they should be able to port it easily enough---add a joystick for movement and make the attacking with touch--like a mouse point....they would only have to change the input to get to the inventory and spells. Think of how much money these companies could make ---how many of us would like to play DIABLO 2 on a mobile device ---the iphone can handle the graphics and they just have to change the input methods from mouse to touch ------- i guess I am just dreaming. Diablo 2 on a mobile would never happen BLIZZARD is odd that way.

I just randomly came across an arcade game I've been trying to remember for ages and think it would be awesome on the iPhone.

It's called Starblade, from around 1991

All I remember when I sat in the arcade machine, it really pulled you in. Some kind of magnified display that made it feel like a window, large controller, killer sound system. But the graphics were 3D, smooth, and made you feel like you were in part of The Last Starfighter.

It's a rail space shooter. So you mainly man the cannon, but overall feels very cinematic and even the 18 year old graphics would look great on the iPhone.

Check it out: Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59OGqjbQj24&feature=related
Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbubRJRVT-I&feature=related

It's hard to hear all the little sounds, but I wanted to show the original arcade, other videos are possibly from other systems.
I figure you would control it similar to Venger on the iPhone.

All you would need would be an iDracula movement system with one controling your character and the other controlling and onscreen icon for targeting--- and 4 buttons --- one by the movement to represent a right click --- one by the cursor to represent a left click --- and 1 above each for mana and health recharge....soooo easy ---Come on BLIZZARD you money hungry corp ---- start milking this cash cow again (eveyone stop buying their battle chest complilations so they look elsewhere for cash flow)

Again, I wouldn't have minded a non-stealth action MGS game, even one that is a gallery shooter (or tap shooter in this case) if the story were told not through getting rewarded by getting higher scores with static pictures with little text tidbits, but if it were integrated into the actual gameplay.

What I'm thinking Kojima and Konami could've, and should've done is make an adventure game with tap shooting action sequences.

Y'know...like Kojima's classics Snatcher and Policenauts.

...

In fact, if I didn't state it before, I'll state it again:

I'd love for Konami to port over Snatcher onto this platform. But base it on the Sega CD version (which was already translated, and IMHO has the best artwork):

YouTube: video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=pPg4vjRDI7c)

Friggin' epic.

And translate Policenauts ASAP and port that over. They'd fill a niche (adventure games).

Snatcher! Yes!

Well, I would like to see some really innovative games using the new characteris*tics found in the device like the accelerometer or the touch screen, not just a tap but using the resources together that could make us really say "wooow". I know that exist some great, really great games at the appstore but I didnt see anything really innovative. I released a puzzle game called GudeBalls that is a time managed puzzle bringing challenge and some addicitive levels ( for those who like puzzles ) and I tried to use something different but its really hard create something really new, the game GudeBalls was a good time to learn somethings about the SDK library and about the device but I am still running after some really new and also hoping that some of my friends (the others developers) can build some like that. I think all of us would love to find it.
