Hodapp is on it. Said this and Warpgate HD are going to be the first games he reviews for the iPad.
The first game I'm going to be firing up is Mirror's Edge, quickly followed by Warpgate HD, and I'm not even sure to go from there.

Sheesh, EA, we already got games that are .99 cents for the iPad. Just check the top sellers.
My iPad is syncing now - lots of apps, music and photos. I have Mirror's Edge, NFS Shift, Bruce Lee, Geometry Wars, RS2010 HD, Galcon Fusion, PacMan, Multiball Pinball (by the Monster Pinball guys) and Aurora Feint and some others to get to as soon as I'm done syncing.

I want to know too... For $12.99 I want to get some impressions, although I loved it on the PS3.
IGN has pretty positive things to say though... But, I think the sale is through the 10th so we have a few days. Hopefully Hodapp will put up some thoughts soon.

Girlfriend played it for a few levels. It seemed more 3Dish than the levels I saw in the iPhone videos, but nowhere like the 1st person like in original. At the end of the day, it’s still a side scroller. She had a little trouble with the controls (timing the wall running the first few times) and the tilt controls sort of come out of nowhere. Learning curve was pretty good.
That said, it’s probably best to wait for the iPhone app. My guess is they delayed it so they can milk the $$ of the iPad app first.

Does it use dual stick controls? Some of the people on my twitter with iPads have been saying that dual stick games are pretty wierd b/c of how awkward it is holding the iPad with your thumbs due to how big it is

No.
"The game is controlled using very simple swiping gestures that all feel very natural. Swiping right or left makes you run in that direction, swiping up makes you jump, and swiping down makes you slide. When you run across opposition, you can also use similar gestures to take them out with a variety of moves such as sweeping their legs out from under them or jump kicking them. There are many other interactions with different obstacles you come across, like jumping off spring boards, sliding down zip lines, and wall-running across billboards."

Think more like that samurai game. You queue in swipes and time swipes for jumping, recovering from slides, etc. You also do long drags when you are wall running. Tilt controls are for ziplines etc. The iPad is such a big device that I think she had a little trouble with slides and wall runs the first few times.
Not sure about the fighting since she moved on to another game before she got to that (there are a heck of a lot of free games on launch day).

I'm not a huge fan of swipe controls. I would preferred on-screen buttons, but I guess swiping comes a lot more natural, while you would have to think before pressing buttons.

That's what really irritates me. You read things from developers about how the iPad is so great because of all the things they can do with graphics and the 3GS is sitting here with so much untapped potential.
Don't get me wrong though, I know why they do it. I'm sure there are way more 1st gen and 3G iPhones than 3GS phones.

Great experience on the iPad. I was not sure about the 2D, but the reviewers were right - you can enjoy the graphics, and concentrate on your moves coming up. Still not easy by any means, but most of the frustrations on the console versions are removed. The 2 player MP is awesome as well.

From what I understand some developers don't want to release lite versions of their apps because it can lead to lower sales in some cases.

Wow this game is excellent :) One of my favorite games right now and this is so much more fun to play than Cananbalt since there are more variations on how you can maneuver around the environment. Now I'm thinking Sega should really consider developing Sonic the Hedgehog 4 for the iPad :)

Game is incredible as far as showing what the ipad is capable of and how good games can look but it's extremely short. I don't think it's any longer than the flash version which is unfortunate. I still love it but think the asking price is just a little steep but with a big name like EA, it's understandable that they're asking for that much.

Loved the original on PC and I'm glad the art style and menu presentation has carried over but I'm really disappointed that they cheaped out and at least as of Chapter 4 they used none of the fairly solid voice work from the pc/console game. I also found the controls at least at first to be a little frustrating with kicks not always registering. :(
With that said if you loved the original game or if your addicted to Canabalt and Hook Champ you will really enjoy this game.
edit: Also one thing of note the unlockable iPad wallpapers appear to export to photos at very low quality (not worth using). Hopefully this is fixed in a patch. :(

No, the leader boards are definitely broken and even crash the game to the home screen.
I am both very impressed and a bit disappointedly the game.
The graphics are crisp & stylish like in the consoleversion, but they do get rather repetitive after a while.
Not sure why they bothered to include a "story" here but it's curiously presented in the form of Star Wars style scrolling text screens.
I'd rather they gave us some nice art to look at - we could capture that ourselves and use that as a wallpaper instead (the unlock able wallpapers are indeed oddly formatted and low-res)
Perhaps it's because I gradually skipped past the text that it wasn't until the level summary/completion screen showed up that realised: "what, that was the level?"
I won't spoil the little there was, but I have to admit - it ended abruptly.
Have yet to try the 2P mode - looks like great fun!

I think that this is still one of the best games for the iPad. It is very well done, has a good story line. The learning curve is good. It has a lot of depth for the moves that you have available. It is expensive in the world of the iApps, but have I got 12x the enjoyment of most $0.99 apps? Absolutely. This is one of the first apps I got on opening day. There was a lot of hype, but I think well deserved.
A few of the "must have apps" (meaning that cost was not an issue) that I got for my iPad, and am very happy with them - Mirror's Edge, Zen Bound 2, Labyrinth 2, Goodreader, Crosswords, iBooks, Kindle, iCabMobile (a great web browser), ABC Player (for watching Lost), Azkend HD (well, you know the story on this one - but I will still give them the nod, even though....), Plants v Zombies, Orbital HD - finally broke down and bought this just yesterday, as I was pissed about double dipping, price, etc - but I play it so much, that I just got it, and wish I had just purchased it long ago - really looks beautiful in HD.
I have a number of other "recommended apps" if you would like - if interested PM me, and I'll just give you a list of apps I think are "worth it".
Sorry for getting off topic a bit - but the short answer - buy it, you'll be happy with it, if you enjoy that type of game.

We have very similar taste. I will pick up Mirror's edge and probably pretty much everyone of those suggestions as well :) I was disapoined in Azkend as well but will pick it up anyway I am sure because I love it :)
Thx for the info !

So do you have it ? and was it worth it ?
That entirely depends on your disposable income and your love for the series. I was a big fan of the console/PC title, but I couldn't really get into this one beyond the initial wow factor. It's certainly a good title, but it is expensive, and I've pulled a lot more entertainment out of way cheaper apps. But really, if you have an iPad and you're interested in this title, you should have the money to get this.

Same here. Big fan of Mirror's Edge and to me the iPad version gives a whole new user experience to the game. Even if it was $15 or so, personally I won't find it expensive. Sure, I would have been happier if they extended the length but nevertheless, the game is stunning and fun on the iPad. But just wanna throw this out there, EA is known to drop the prices of their premium games the moment the sales go down. But yeah, it depends if you can wait or if you wanna experience the game now.

Well, let us know if you enjoy it. I have fun racing against my son in the split pad mode - it is done really well. He usually wins though - I think that the genetics are changing, and being good at video games is becoming a necessary "survival of the fittest" attribute...

I only had about 10 minutes to try it so far but am liking it alot. It has very nice graphics, sound, polish, etc.....VERY nice :)
It has a similar idea as Run, Canabalt, etc....but just so nice to look at :)
I will post again when I have had more time with it.
It's worth picking up for sure IMO.

Pricedrop may take a while seeing that it's selling so well. EA usually waits for their premiums to go down the charts before making the price drop. It's worth the wait but if you're itching to play this now, I suggest to just grab it and enjoy. Seriously worth the premium price.

I'm with Wegmans, been waiting for it to drop, but it hasn't happened. I love Run, Canabalt, chop chop runner etc so I know I'll love it. Dang! I know as soon as I buy it it will drop to $6.99 though.

Well this is certainly the grandaddy of those games, and then some.
The fact that the game is already on sale on top of the fact that the iPad just recently launched internationally, I don't think we'll be seeing that 6.99 sale too soon. I say dive in.

It would be nice, but it sounds like what they said at the beginning of April.
Good thing Prince of Persia came out since then. That game is amazing and has certainly been keeping me entertained.

I will admit that is exactly what I thought, how many times are they going to announce it is coming soon only to have it take another couple months. Then I came to this thread and noticed it just recently received a drop to $9.99 which lead me to believe that it is most likely coming for iPhone/iPod. Why else would they drop it all of a sudden?
Lets hope we see it in the next few days.

Why else would they drop it all of a sudden?
Because they wanted to give me a bargain? Glad I waited now — it's a great game, very polished and the controls are spot on, well worth the eight coffees I spent on it.

Hey can anyone help me please!!
I am on chapter 6-2 and I am stuck!
I have gotten to the bit where there is a very large billboard. I have run back and forth along it (to get the bag) and it appears I have to make my way to the top of the left building but no matter how much speed I get and running along the bill board, I can't get enough speed to wall climb up to the edge. I have tried running up the other wall and jumping to it but I never make it and it's driving me nuts.
I can't see another way to go other then this.
Hope anyone can help.

$10 is still a bit steep for the game IMHO. But its EA, so it's going to be overpriced.

Now that the game has been out for several months, what do people think of the iPad's 2.5d vs. the original's first-person camera?
I loved the first-person view in the original, and my initial reaction looking at screenshots of the iPad version is: it looks like good fun, but I feel like I would have hard time getting over the knowledge that there is a "better" version out there? (Better is just my opinion; I'm not saying everyone should like first-person Mirror's Edge more. I'm just looking for like-minded people to give me their impressions.)

I guess that the international version is the version outside the US...so if your living in the US then you won't find it in your itunes....and the only way to retrieve this version is to make another itunes account which is a non US one.

Brilliant game... I definitely baulked at the original $15 price tag at launch, but have kept this on my list of games to buy.
I would go as far as to say that I much prefer this to the console versions... very different games, but the touch implementation has been beautifully executed, with a lot of thought give specifically for touch play.. and the game is a lot more forgiving that its PS3 / 360 versions.
Facebook integration for the iPad version please.

If the reason you could not enjoy it on your iPod was because of the small screen, then definitely grab it for your iPad. It is much more enjoyable being that the environment is much larger on the iPad screen. Plus, it's on sale!
