Got to play it a lot today. It does have the quick play mode, which the computer version didn't and more achievements than the iPhone version. It has most, though not all, of the minigames, including the new buttered popcorn one. No Zen Garden, and it is missing my favorite, the puzzle levels, particularly the i, Zombie ones, It does have Survival Mode, which runs very well even with the entire screen filled with plants and zomnies.

I have only played this on the PC... but if the gameplay remains the same, it's fun until you figure out the huge exploit, which allows you to get as much money as you'll need and turn the game ridiculously easy.

You get to buy plants from crazy dave and take care of them and they grow then you can sell them for money. very fun:)

Well, let's see. I have bought PvZ for Windows, Mac, iPod Touch, and iPad for a grand total of $30 - less than one crappy console game. Yeah, clearly not worth the "high price".

The iPad version also has features not in the computer version - the buttered popcorn mini game, achievements, and the ability to replay any level in quick play mode.

The 3G+wifi has:

1) 3G internet access (antenna, radio etc.)
2) GPS radio
3) Different shell (has a small opening for a micro-sim card, and a black plastic portion on the back for better radio transmission/reception)
4) Price ($130 more).

Every thing else is identical to my knowledge.

No. The only difference is that it has a massive ugly black plastic bit on the back and it can receive 3G

Everything else is identical, it doesn't run any faster.

You kill them (beat the level) by putting the walnuts up. I use cabbages, watermelons (plus ice), the flaming shooters along with the squash and spud things. You need the nuts to keep your peashooters from being killed. That just sounds so wrong...

I can't beat buttered popcorn...everything else but not that.

I really haven't looked to see what's missing. I have it on Mac and PC but really didn't like playing TD with a mouse. The first time I ever played anything in this genre was on the iPhone (started with fieldrunners,besiegement, and 7cities) and I got hooked. I never really went too far on the computer because the tactile aspect is far more natural...kind of makes me wonder what the future holds, though I still think that nothing beats a real keyboard for typing (I'm pretty fast and there's no other way to achieve that speed). I will say that the iPad has some that don't appear to be on the computer version. I will check, though. My son wants me to install it on his computer now and I'll look since I just know he'll need my help :0)

I broke down and brought this today. Really didnt like it on the Mac when I first played it, so skipped the iPhone version.

But I must say, it is a really good fit on the iPad and I think it will turn out to be a good purchase. The graphics are superb - best on the iPad so far??

I'm the most critical person over prices of hd versions and this one is well worth the price tag to upgrade. I play it much much more on my iPad rather than iPhone, the graphics are great and it runs amazing. This is one of the few top notch iPad games.

The Ipad version re-arranges the interface to be more like the PC version, that's the other large change in addition to the nice higher resolution graphics. But that being said, the core game isn't really changed. I doubt I would have gotten the ipad version if I already had the iphone version.

I don't have an iPad...yet, but from what I've seen at the Apple store (PvZ HD demo on the iPad), I think it's worth it, at least for me when I finally get a iPad with webcam. PvZ was the best game (Angry Birds would be 2nd) I've downloaded this year and the HD version looks too good to ignore, even for 10 bucks.

peggle for ipad... my god i swear, i mean itdoesnt look bad on ipad, but it could be sweetened up for really high end stuff similar to xbox live, and wud prob be better then xbox live too... they said though they dont release stuff until it is perfect and wlel suited so :)

i highly doubt that for the main reason of the Xbox live's version relying on this very mode. For example PC owners have zen garden, iphone users have the cheapest price, ipad users have survival endless for $10, and xbox live users have multiplayer modes for $15. It costs more by $5 so thats why they get the co op modes. I really hope for inapp purchase

I'm not too concerned with having a 32 GB edition. I've already got a ton of apps and photos, and not even half full on the device. I don't use it much for music though, so that makes a difference probably for many. I don't use my iPad like an oversized iPod.

I suppose it's just because of the iphone deduction to bottom price, and it worked for me as it's this iphone I reduction quoted in one of the free app a day site (doing sometimes only prices drop instead of free) that put my attention on this ipad sale.

But my question is, I wonder if it really worth it. It is old so the gameplay based on very simple rules could have become a bit old. It seems not really a TD but more a game like Vanguard Storm but with less subtle rules.

So I'm hesitant between pick the cheap iphone version to fulfill my curiosity and won't find it that good so I won't regret later not have save the buck and buy directly the ipad version. The option is to buy directly the ipad version and save one buck and find it good enough to not regret the 5 bucks.

I have totally no regret when i payed the full price for this game a month ago.
It is really worth it in my opinion with lots of replay value after finishing the story mode.

Also lots of mini games and a survival mode plus the option to buy better plants later on really stretches the game replay value.

I bet you won't be dissapointed when you buy the game for this price.

Btw....check also some youtube movies from the ipad version to get a better impression.

There's even few I have in both version and use the iphone version. But ok I understand your feeling, even if behind this, there's a debate not that simple.

For the video I saw few but not much, among trailers and demo not showing users actions it's hard to get a good idea. I haven't found any video with real play with an iPad allowing see clearly the fingers actions.

If you compare this with pc version, apart from multi-touch support, one additional mini-game, and absence of zen garden it's the same game.
iPhone version only includes the main story and a quick play mode.

For the current PC/Mac version there's 4 modes, Adventure, Survival, Puzzle and Mini-Games. I could try only the Adventure Mode through the demo, perhaps other modes require finish the Adventure or progress in it further than I did.

Also it is different than Vanguard Storm and if Vanguard Storm has a bit more sophisticated rules I'm not sure it has as more features than PvZ. Anyway great pick, nice sale.

Totally right in fact the mini games and survival mode are shown when you select Quick Play in the menu. There's also 5 more section, day, night pool, fog and roof. And each allow 5 selections, one is the game where there's on top a roll of items to select instead of using the sun system. The four other sub selection allow select the strong opponent, it seems to be like 25 of the 50 levels of the adventure mode.

So in comparison with the goty edition there's only the puzzle mode not in ipad version.

It's a great game, found the adventure mode very fun, perhaps 50 levels is a bit low, and the difficulty isn't high but it was fine for me.

I'll have to try it out, I didn't notice any issues when I was playing on my iPad 2 last night, but I had the volume down quite a bit.

As for other issues in the game, I REALLY wish they'd add in things like the Zen Garden. SO much. Even something tiny would really make the game so much more special.

Updated to 4.3.1. I had a paused game of "endless" up to 42 flags (my record is in the eighties) and I only got sound effects for about 10 seconds before they stopped. Clearly this only happens on levels where there is a tremendous amount of stuff happening.

I heard back from PopCap support:

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with sound effects on your iPad. As this issue has reported regarding many Apps and games by various companies, it is believed at this time to be an iPad issue rather than software-specific. Please report the issue to Apple for further assistance.

This is one of my biggest wishes for ios gaming, syncing of gamesaves. Real Racing 2 does it really well but far too many games have no way to sync saves across ipad/iphone/ipod. It should have been part of the spec when calling games universal imo.

How far have you gotten into the game?

I've introduced the game to about 8-9 people so far, 5 of who were female (who don't usually enjoy gaming) and almost everyone loved it. A fair amount of strategy is required later on in terms of plant placement and selection; from what I understand, the iPad version is also superior to the iPhone version in terms of content.

Please buy the game, and think later... haha. At this price, it's a no-brainer :)

I know how you feel. The game just didn't look like fun to me; even after watching the videos. I can tell you, however, that the game ended up hooking me and my sons completely.

I sure do miss the "Thriller" zombies, however. They should have left them in.

PvZ does not have any kind of cloud sync, nor does game center have this feature. Therefore, if you installed it fresh, your progress will not be there.

When this additional stuff first came out for iphone/ipod, I have played the earlier version twice and bought everything that could be bought up to that point. I had enough coins to unlock the full Zen Garden and 2 mini-game-packs immediately.

Starting the game with Zen Garden already available, it will be even easier to get enough coins to unlock everything. Just get the Zen garden at the earliest opportunity and tend to the plants there, which is not onerous.

I got a reply to the ticket I raised with Popcap support about the locked survival mode:
"I apologize for the current trouble with the Survival Mode of Plants vs. Zombies. This is a known issue and should be resolved very quickly. Please look for an update over the next several days which should resolve these issues."

On wave 56 and going strong. This is my first endless on the iPad but use to play it a lot on pc. Think wave 120 was my best. And yes, you can get plants, I seemed to get a lot more after wave 40 and getting the achievement.

We tested it on ipad3 yesterday, actually i did not notice any difference. As i understand they did not make graphics for 2048 x 1536 resoluthion, however ipad3 smooth it just fine.

As someone who's bought their first iPad (new iPad 64GB) but has been an iPhone gamer since the iPhone 3G, I am a little fed up having to buy a lot of games twice.

Real Racing 2, FIFA 12, and Plants vs Zombies disguised under the 'HD' moniker, for example.

Surely it's not hard for them to add an update to support the new HD within the existing iPhone app (like Infinity Blade 2)? Reading the app descriptions for the iPhone versions, they say they support the iPad (using the x2 mode) but it's a bit annoying having to pay for the same app twice to get 'full' iPad support.

Agreed, but only because developers with multiple code bases tend to favor one over the other. To see an example of this we need look no farther than this game, which received its Zen Garden update almost a year after the iPhone version.

The "buying" part would only be an issue for me if iOS games weren't so ridiculously cheap.

True, but take a look at the likes of Infinity Blade 2. It was updated for the new iPad as well as the ClashMobs feature. It's just one app, universal, and it runs a certain way depending on the SKU of iDevice running it. Real Racing 2 is the one that really bugs me, there's no reason for that not to be Universal on iOS, especially when the iPhone app is listed as compatible with the iPad also, albeit in x2 mode.

I grudge giving EA another £4.99 for a game I've already bought in full. In fact, most of the games with this issue are either Gameloft or EA ... sums them up.

The IAP isn't needed. I can't see why anyone would want to buy it - with Zen Garden, you'll be rolling in coins soon enough.

Yea I am a little sad this game isn't universal too. I bought the new ipad and I had this game on my phone, but I refuse to pay another $7 for the hd version. So I will wait for a sale, looks like it will go down to $3 at some point but do any of you think it will go on sale for $1 sometime?

If it were just Popcap, I'd say no on the $1 sale, however, EA puts even their $10 titles that low sometimes so it's possible.

Exactly...Like i think that from flag 20 and since then,I've only changed my setup 3 times;).......but it works-although I hate the combination of Gargantuars and Zombonis as you have to keep a very strict rhythm otherwise your Cob Cannons won't be ready for use...

It is hd but it is not retina on the new ipad unfortunately. I hope they come out with an update soon. Finally picked up this hd version, it is on sale now for three dollars. Now I have pretty much upgraded all my apps to hd versions, now I gotta start playing them.
