I'm interested in purchasing but some of the reviews I have been reading say that it does not save the progress of games that are in play. I understand it doesn't make sense if you're playing over wifi, but local play with iPhone tile racks (awesome) should save progress no problem? Anyone have any insight?

Pass and Play mode saves but Party Play with tile racks does not unfortunately :(

Can you save Bluetooth/WiFi games?

Is anyone getting push notifications for facebook games? I do with the iPhone app (even the iPhone app on the iPad) but I have never once gotten a push notification for the iPad app. And yes they are turned on. I've even reinstalled the game a few times. Nothin'.

I believe I read somewhere Facebook disabled the notifications. So nothing is wrong with your app.

Facebook disabled notifications within facebook... but the iPhone app still gets push notifications, and the iPad app says it should be getting them... But it doesn't.

Looking forward to a UK version of this one ... could get US but can't abide your odd spelling of words :)

:D I know what you mean. I live in the USA and bought the UK version of scrabble for the DS (before there was a US version) and I was caught off guard by a couple of words.

I know Im resurrecting an old thread but I was wondering if those that bought Scrabble(and/or monopoly) still use it or do you find yourself going back to the 'hard copies'. Im really torn on this one-i love the whole concept and execution but part of me feels like board game time is also 'unplug' time and this seems to go against that.

Any opinions?

When playing Scrabble with another person I prefer the actual board game.
I mainly use the app when nobody wants to play Scrabble with me :( because you can play against the AI (who frequently seems to create rather suspicious words...)

The iPad version is way better than the board game IMO, much easier to experiment with word combos, and the UI is slick. I've never bothered with the online gameplay though, because it forces Facebook connectivity, which I refuse to use, so I use Abble Dabble and War of Words for online play instead. But where Scrabble really succeeds is in it's local multiplayer mode and it's single player mode. As far as I know, Scrabble is the only game of it's kind that offers single player mode vs the CPU AI (with multiple difficulty levels) - this alone makes it worth buying. And playing on the same iPad or multiple iPads with friends and family is great fun too, as you can each play your moves from anywhere in the house, no need to be stuck at a table. If you're a Scrabble fan, definitely grab it while it's on sale.

I was thinking of getting it but it has a lot of negative reviews with most people complaining about how bad the dictionary is. Is it really that bad??

People love to hate this game, I held off on buying it for a long time because of so many negative reviews on iTunes (plus the normal $10 price tag is too high), but once I pulled the trigger and bought it I've been happy with it ever since. I've never had any problems with the dictionary, except that it's sanitized, so no four letter "bad" words, but otherwise it seems to work fine. I don't recall the CPU ever playing any questionable words or banning other standard words, at least not so far anyway.

Caved and bought it before the sale ran out, disappointed the ipad version doesnt have teacher mode. We'll have to see when the gang gets together if I can fire up scrabble and monopoly and hold everyone's attention.

It does have teacher mode. At least for online games. After you make a move there is a teacher button that will show you what your best play would have been. I only play online so I don't know if during single player there is that option. Scrabble is a good implementation of the game. Notifications don't always show up for me, though.

This was updated on the app store today but being EA I suspect they may have IAP'd this to hell. I paid something like £6.99 for this game when it came out and I'd rather keep it how it is (including the tile app on the iphone) if EA have done an EA on this. Has anyone hit UPDATE on this yet?

According to the BBC this did indeed get EA'd and there are a lot of complaints http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22905191

So far only the Facebook app has changed since it went from Mattel to EA. The complaints are totally warranted though, wiping out all user data and records is a HUGE no no when you have so many competitive players.
