***UPDATED for version 1.9.0!!
I am pleased to announce The Creeps! HD 1.9 for iPad is available now!
ALL the original iPhone maps AND "HD only" levels are included! All the iPhone level packs are available for purchase (but if you already own them on iPhone you can unlock them free...look below).
ALSO: Did you know that if you own level packs (or used the All Access Pass) on your iPhone version, you can unlock those level packs in the HD version for free? Just do this:
1. Temporarily install the iPhone version on your iPad.
2. Run it and use the "restore" option on the level select screen. This will unlock your level packs for the HD version!
3. Now you can safely delete the iPhone version from your iPad, it won't re-lock those level packs.
Maybe one day Apple will allow IAP (like level packs) to be shared between apps so we don't have to jump through hoops like this, but for now this is what we can do. This will not transfer your scores, but hopefully I can fix that in a future update using iCloud!

Some initial impressions and comments -
There is a review on iTunes that talks about graphics being grainy, and I sort of have to agree - the small maps that you choose from are very grainy as well as the text that is on them. The actual maps look pretty good, but the screen shots above look better than is what is on the iPad.
That being said - I'm not regretting getting this. The devs did all the design and testing without having a device. They have been great with updates and support and I am sure that these issues will get taken care of. Also, it looks nice - just not eye popping like I expected it to be.

ya, I agree the map selection screen looks like its the iphone version blown up and is really blurry. However, the actual game looks nice and I like that the boards are at least different. Compared to fieldrunners price of 7.99 this is a far fairer price. This type of game in general place outstanding on the ipad too.

I think it needs tweaking. I can control it, but not as precisely as I would like. It ,ay also be that the pad is much larger and so the ability to control both hands might be less than the fine movements of one hand.

At least it's not overpriced like some of he HD versions of games in the AppStore. And has all new set of maps, so it's not just another worthless upgrade like Soosiz HD and Zombieville HD, so just wanna say thanks for doing a more proper HD version.

maybe my favorite iPad game already :)
any reason why the maps in the selection screen look so pixelated?
also I noticed that when a creeps is shot with a glue tower the glue around the creep looks pixelated too
the creeps themselves and towers look great though
just realized I'm #1 on a bunch of maps world high score
I've never been that good in any other game
just a matter of time before people catch up I guess...
anyways great job super squawk on a magnificent iPad game :D

Is it really pixelated? How are the graphics?
This is one of my favorite iPad purchases as well, along with Babo Crash HD, and Geometry Wars. If you haven't purchased it on the iphone/touch then it's a definite must for TD fans.

More (free) levels are in the works already, but I don't have an estimated release date yet.
1/5th is quite an exaggeration by the way :) The Creeps! HD has 8 Survival and 8 Endurance levels... Not counting DLC, The Creeps! has 12 each. So yeah, it only has 2/3 the NUMBER of levels right now, but the levels themselves are much larger and many levels have the new Battery Tower.

I really hope these new towers come to the iPhone/iPod version. You could also make ice towers maybe? That would be really cool. Some other kind of "spike" tower like bloons tower defense 3. I LOVE this game, it's WAY better than Fieldrunners and every other TD game. I've already beat every level on every difficulty level :D

I'm a bit irritated: So it's all new maps (which are hard as nails btw. - I didn't manage "Charge!!" yet) in Survival and Endurance - but the help screen talks about Door Buster as well. Are they well hidden somewhere or is it just the iPod help which isn't correct in some ways? That would also explain the missing information about the batteries.

There was a last minute problem with the Door Buster levels planned for the initial release and they were temporarily cut :(. I forgot to remove the description from the help. The good news is that I'm working on an update which includes Door Buster levels (free, not DLC) among other various additions and improvements.
FYI, the battery towers boost the damage of adjacent towers. The towers will eventually drain the battery and the battery will poof away when it's totally used up. High damage towers (like the flashlight) will drain batteries faster... it's all proportional. Batteries are purchase with sparks, not coins. You need to collect the sparks given off by the sweaters that start off hidden in the presents. Up to 4 batteries can be used to boost a single tower (the effect DOES stack, so you make an amazingly powerful tower with 4 batteries). Or you could have a single battery boosting up to 4 towers. But each tower drawing power will drain the battery, so this arrangement will drain the battery much faster.

I have also been waiting for this to update before buying. I was one of the first to pick the game up for iPhone played it more than any other T.D. game on ios. I understand from reading the thread that the developer is kinda in the thick of things right now. I am sure there are plenty of others like you and I who are waiting in the wings for a good reason to pick this game up again. Even a 99c sale might be a concession enough to make some of us in the meantime. This is a game which is worthy of some love, I for one hope this isn't the end of the creeps.
On a side note it would be good if we could have a couple of maps with moveable turrets- this seems to be the new kick with TD, adding another layer of strategy. It would be a marriage made in heaven to have it in The Creeps.

Aside from bug fixing to make things work, I don't see why people demand updates with new content, especially for free. Don't get me wrong, I love it when developers do update their apps with free content, but you can't expect that will last forever. People should buy apps based on what you're getting now, not on what you hope to get. It leads to less disappointment and over-expectation.
If you don't feel you're getting enough for the app, then don't buy it.

Myself I don't remember why I added it in my wish list, read the thread didn't help me remind, apart graphics you could enjoy or not, I don't see. It seems a rather common TD and there are so many. That said I can admit graphics and basic appeal is important. But all levels with fixed path, no real special features apart the battery system. I hesitated but I removed it from my wish list because of the lack of fix and lack of some features when to compared to some other but I was close to let it because of the graphics. I hope when the fix update will be out that I'll noticed it again.

I think it's a difficult approach. You could try Knight Defense HD to see an example. Great game, but won't appeal from everybody because of abstraction and lack of graphic qualities. There's a free demo version I haven't tried.
You'll see that if first level could be played with the idea of a TD where you can move stuff, as levels go on (not sure the demo have enough levels to show it) it become hectic and be able to move end in create an action that don't feel at all like a TD but great fun anyway.
@mrkgoo: Nobody here whine for new free map and stuffs. I can understand your comment but it's not really relevant here. Also some games you pay don't have that many features like not many levels and so on and could generate such free wish, mainly because it's easy to forget how cheap you paid you just remember you paid it.

Now this is just unfair. The iPad version is more expensive but the iPhone version just got updated with free content: level packs #4, #5, #6 and a free level. There's also a new Battery that adds power to the towers. Why did the cheaper version get the first service.

Nice logic. So, if BMW sells more of their cheaper 3-series, then perhaps they should have utilized their beefiest engines in there. Now I'm wondering why didn't they.
You misunderstand. Completely. I will try to simplify.
1) If an update is going to give him a 10% bump in sales, he is better off getting 1000 more sales at $2 then 100 more sales at $4.
2) If he releases a 99 DLC, he will probably sell more copies of DLC for the version that has 10000 users then the one that has 1000 users.
3) If an update is done to make a user base happy, he is going to make more people happy if he updates the version that has 10000 customers then the one that has 1000 customers.
These numbers are obviously made up (I have no idea what his acutal sales are, or how many new sales an update generates) but are just to illustrate my point.
By the way, your analogy about cars makes no sense at all. BMW doesn't release a free update to their car for their existing buyers, and if they did put a more powerful engine in their cheaper cars and sell if for the same price as before, lots more people would buy the cheaper one and they would make less money.
And, in case you really don't understand why they don't do it, its because putting a more powerful engine in a cheaper car while keeping the same price would kill their profit margins.
Are we clear now?

Yes I know your point. But I am peeved why price iPad apps higher when you'll know you won't be giving priority to that in the first place. Oh wait, I know, to squeeze in a little bit more money. You and I both know that the iPhone user base is bigger and the devs can make more money out of them. That means DLCs and updates, they'll get priority. So do explain to me why price your iPad apps higher when they'll just be the red haired kid of the family? Because iPads have less user base? Because iPads are more expensive hardware wise? Because devs can squeeze a little bit more $$ aside from what they're making from the iPhone apps. Screw the iPad users, let's take care of the iPhone market.

All of those reasons are true, but the most important reason is that prices are higher because consumers have shown that they are willing to pay higher prices. Maybe that will change one day, but for now, people have shown that they are willing to pay more for iPad games.
If you are buying more expensive iPad apps because you think that developers are going to pay more attention to them in the future because they are more expensive, then now is the time to stop.
Personally, I pay more for iPad games, because of the increased value due to the larger screen, or because (in many cases) I would have paid more for the iPhone version as well.
You misread my post. It was a sarcastic attempt in responding to your theory.
I understood that you were trying to be sarcastic, I was just pointing out that your analogy made no sense. I was explaining why someone did something (because it made them more money), and you responded with a sarcastic example of a way someone could do something vaguely similar that would lose them money. It made no more sense that if you had said, "Then why don't egg farmers sell 13 eggs to a dozen."

Marketing 101, when you're making a product, you are professionally responsible in making sure you give fair treatment to the customers of your products. If Apple is in the business of making Macs and iPods, they give equal services for the rich execs who owns Mac Pros and the teens who owns Nanos. That's professional responsibility.
I don't really want to argue with you, it's becoming pointless. If you want to defend the devs who give priorities to their iPhone user-base because of their greater numbers, then that's your call. Business is all about making loads of cash anyway, right? I understand your point but unfortunately we have different professional business ethics. Good luck.

I understand your point but unfortunately we have different professional business ethics.
Now I see where we part company. If we were talking about fixing bugs, I would completely agree with you. Then the developer's responsibility to his larger iPhone user base would be balanced by his responsibility to his more heavily invested iPad users.
But, apparently, your ethics make you feel that after paying $4 for a game, you have a right to free updates and developer attention for as long as you want it.
I disagree.
You saw a game on the app store. It had a certain amount of functionality and it cost a certain amount of money. You freely entered into a contract to buy it. You are entitled to a app that perfoms as advertised, the developer is entitled to $4 (well, $2.80 after Apples cut). The developer hasn't promised you anything more and he doesn't owe you anything more. Your complaints about getting more stuff just makes you greedy, it doesn't make him unethical.
I would love to have you try to articulate the ethics you are so proud of that you think makes you entitled to anything else, just because you want it. Good luck with that.

I can understand the two point of view, a first one:
It's not a separate market but a single one enveloping iPhone and iPad versions. It's like if Echalon Book 2 released for PC/Mac would give more features to PC version forgetting Mac version.
Why developers release a more or less similar version on iPad at twice the price, not to mention it's often only a rather quick port.
Many iPad players have also an iPod or an iPhone (not me). When they choose to buy the iPad version they didn't expected that few months later it will have less features than the iPhone version they could have buy.
From a player point of view, this could be naive but it could make you wonder why you paid the deluxe version to receive the low budget services few month later.
But it's a matter of point of view to see it in a different way:
For the price, you had the choice, you could have bought the iphone version but choose the iPad version, iPad can run both. So you made your choice, that's all, I doubt any developer let think they'll support closely and faster the iPad version.
Please to more people or please to less people with a bit more money, where is the ethic?
The deluxe version isn't the iPad version but the iPhone. It's like if you take an order of 1000 units at 4$ and an order of 10000 units at 2$ knowing that each additional unit won't really cost you more. When you do the work to fulfill the order, the cheap work is for the order of 1000 units ie the iPad version.
Considering the iPad version is just a quick adaptation from the iPhone is to consider it as a secondary version and in no way you should expect get first updates or free bonus on it.
My feeling is that iPad market is relatively restricted and suffer of a direct concurrence from any iPhone game that can be played on iPad. What made great the iPad at its beginning, the ability to play the ton of iPhone game already available, is going to give it a rude path because of this concurrence.
I made my choices on this base:
When I buy a game, iPad but also iPhone, I don't buy in a state where I expect more features. If it has too many bugs, not enough levels/features, no AI for single player, an hypothetic universal version I expect but it hasn't yet, then I don't buy the game until it has the features I expect. In that way I reduce a lot the risk to be disappointed by a slower update of an iPad version.
I try buy almost only iPad games because it's how I prefer. But if I buy an iPhone version it's knowing that later an iPad version could be released and not universal.
I don't survey closely iPhone versions of iPad games I have. And I know that how is the tendency, that I should not wait and expect a new feature released for iPhone version for an iPad version I have. Anyway I don't stick to games forever and like switch to new games, and the igame market is perfect for such approach.
EDIT: About the price vs the service returned, if it was a matter of unit price then you'll get a service of 2$ more than the iPhone version, ie close to no service. That shows clearly that the number of units sold is the only significant key. If it was 500$ for one and 5000$ for another that would have been a totally different matter.

I'm actually frustrated with The Creeps HD, and have been ever since it was released and I bought it. The iPad version is clearly more of an "afterthought," and since the game looks nowhere near as good as the first post of this thread would make you believe, I think someone should edit the thread and post REAL screen shots.
**EDIT**
Since nobody else has, I did it..
Here's what the developers say it looks like:
http://www.supersquawksoftware.com/CreepsHD/bones1.png
http://www.supersquawksoftware.com/CreepsHD/battery1.png
And here's what it ACTUALLY looks like:
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a127/wgrose/photo-33.png
So....
As you can see, the backgrounds are low res and ugly. The way it stands, I think anyone who was misled into buying the iPad version deserves a refund, me included.

WilliamG those first two are screenshots from the game too. That third shot is from a level with a "painted" look that makes it look smudged, it isn't low rez.

Thanks WillieG - you are right... it looks terrible. I LOVE this game but just play iphone version at 2x. Not worth buying ipad version unless they drastically improve the graphics. I think everyone is on board with this one. Creeps HD could have been one of the best selling apps in the appstore but bad graphics + overpriced does not make a good combo. Hopefully they will take the time to update properly, but I wouldn't hold my breath at this point..

I respectfully disagree. I think it's just low res. It doesn't look that bad on the iPhone, indicating it just upscaled for the iPad.
At least that's how it looks to me.

WilliamG and PapaFunk , I pointed this out day one as you can see on the first page of this thread. Got slapped down for it, so gave up. I thought it was due to lack of hardware, no one had a real iPad so how could they know? Months later and it has been tweaked, but still nowhere near those advertising screenshots ( that were taken from a computer the game was being developed on). I'm still hoping.

Folks those screen shots are not lower resolution than the actual game. Here are screen captures off my iPad. Compare them to the ones that are supposedly dishonest portrayals of the game. They're not, they're the same.

My apologies - I spoke incorrectly about this being overpriced (got it mixed up with Fieldrunners HD- $7.99.. Really? LOL). That being said - the craters, skulls, flowers, etc, door and bed look awful blurry. The background textures are even worse- that is the hardest thing to look at for me. I don't want it to sound like I am bashing the game, some of it looks great. It just seems like it was given partial effort for the HD version. I bought and LOVE the iphone version and play it on my ipad as well, just this could have been soooo much better if they just gave it a little more tlc..
Does it look better than the Creeps iphone? Yes. Is it worth the HD upgrade if you have the iphone version? No. If you don't own the game at all what the hell is wrong with you? Go buy it! :)
Hope I am not offending anyone at Super Squawk - again I absolutely LOVE the game. I just wish they update ALL of the graphics. I'll even say PLEASE.

Really? Singapore's iPad pricing is one of the more 'reasonable' ones around the world. Try buying it in Germany. ;)
Anyway, the low res backgrounds are holding me back. I've been contemplating over the months and still couldn't set my mind on buying. I hope there are plans to fine tune the graphics.

The most important thing is if you are happy with it. I'm glad you are! I wouldn't be, so I didn't buy it. I would if ALL the graphics were given the same treatment. Menus are not a big deal but probably the easiest of all to do so why not just do it, too? I am not asking for any extra features or anything else.
I hope you are not one of those people that can't tell the difference between 30 and 60 fps because it is clearly night and day. There are plenty of people that feel the same way I do and WANT to buy Creeps HD, but just can't as is. Again, if you are happy with it that is great, but the word 'perfect' is the last word that describes the graphics here.
I realize the dev has been slammed busy so I still hope he will get to it eventually. Knowing the level of quality the game is, I suspect it is eating away at him to complete the graphics anyway when he has time. If he is completely satisfied with the HD version and will not be addressing these issues than that is ok. Hopefully he can let all of us disappointed folks know. If so I will have to live with what I have. End of story.

My wife and I absolutely fell in love with The Creeps and have been playing it non-stop on my I-Pad. That said I have a couple of questions. I have been playing the IPhone Version at 2x I've considered the HD but do to all the comments I read about lack of updates and a couple bugs I haven't done that yet. Anyway my questions are:
1. I understand the levels are different for both versions of the game but are the expansion levels the same and are all 6 packs available for both devices?
2. For users of the HD version are the achievements and high scores the same as the I-phone version.
3. My wife is looking for a list of the achievement requirements does anyone know where to find them?
Thanks

I'll say it again.... This game is perfect. If you want to whine and bitch I'm sure you can find stuff but it's perfect the way it is. it already looks miles better than the iphone version..... the graphics are crisp and clean. if you want to pay attention to people that have no idea what they are talking about then fine, but I own the game and have no reason to suck stormy's balls, but this game is one of the best looking apps besides the menu icons that are a little pixelated however not a single thing is wrong in the game. i attached a pic and even blown up to full size it looks great however do realize any resolution beyond what the iphone displays is stretching it.

if you didn't buy it, you have no right to comment on the quality. so either buy it and bitch away, or just leave it alone. it's totally worth having this on ipad, the increased space is a blast to have and there isn't a damn thing wrong with it.

I certainly don't try and cause problems. The screen shots on the iTunes were originally from the computer and may still be. I can't remember, but the screenshots were posted before anyone had an iPad as you can remember. I bought this day 1. I love the game, but never thought the graphics were what I expected (a la zen bound 2, or mirrors edge). I understand it is all perception. I generally agree with mlkaufman, but in this case don't. I don't think I'm being too picky, I just don't think the graphics are up to par with some other hi Rez games. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

I agree with you that there are games with better graphics, but I feel that this game just doesn't need better graphics. With something like a good driving game, or the Settlers HD, and many others, better graphics make for a better game.
With a game like this one, or TowerMadness, or Implode, the graphics are almost besides the point. You want to have good enough graphics to not distract from the game, but after that, it really doesn't matter.
IMO, what makes the HD version of Creeps better then the iPhone one on the iPad is not the fact that the graphics are crisper on the HD version then in the pixel doubled iPhone version (which they are). What makes it better is the maps that are designed for the bigger screen. You can have longer paths and more involved ones that would just be too hard to play on the smaller iPhone display.
Implode's graphics are very basic, but I actually think better graphics would district from a great game, they certainly wouln't improve it.
TowerMadness HD (the other great TD game on the iPad) actually has pretty average graphics, but it is still a fantastic game.
Sometimes you just don't need the most complicated or crispest graphics for a great game.
listen to this guy. one of the most detailed people on this board and when there is a problem, he will say so...
Thanks for the kind words. If you take a look at my posts about the Creeps from the first 6 months or so after its release, all I did was complain about how easy it was. When he finaly tuned it up to make it hard enough, that's when it turned into one of the top TDs on the iPhone. The HD version is certainly one of the top ones on the iPad. And it will move up even farther when he adds some DLC (hint hint).

No need to be jerky man. We are all here to enjoy games and discuss. I think there are as many people wanting what I do as there are people satisfied with it the way it is. I simply want them to make all the graphics as crisp as the other 60% of the game as much as mlkaufman wishes to see dlc. I just could have sounded more polite about it I guess. I mentioned I LOVE the game several times and have bought dlc for the iPhone version- so I am hardly busting the devs balls. I even told people if they don't own the game to go buy it! So I don't know where you are coming from..if you like the game the way it is go play it and stop giving me a hard time for voicing my opinion.
Assuming I have not played the HD version before voicing my opinion is laughable. Nice work detective! I'm sure you have wanted something more of a game before. My friend has it so I do have first hand experience playing it. Some of it looks fantastic, which makes the low res items look that much worse. He agrees completely, but does not have the iphone version so he is still happy with his purchase (but could be much happier)
I admit I could have asked in a better manner at first but I suspect I would have heard from someone like you anyway. I thought since so many people feel the way I do on here it would not be such a 'whiny' issue for you. If all the graphics were given the same treatment sales of this game would probably triple. Again, just my opinion. No doubt as far as gameplay goes this is easily the best TD game in the app store. Very few will debate that.

I would also like to add my voice to request more DLC - I would be happy to pay for it! Love the game!

Please? :)

Hey guys, I'll make a separate post later, but The Creeps! HD 1.6 just got approved! I'll post some screen shots when I get a chance :)
What's new?
1. Added support for iOS 4.2. Fast app switching fully supported.
2. Retooled level select screen. It's much more HD-ish now :) It also shows the badges and high scores you have earned on each level (by popular demand!)
3. General graphics improvements: Level backgrounds have been repainted. Effects quality has been improved, no more pixilated explosions etc :)
4. Added 4 new Doorbuster levels!
Bad news... Agon appears to be completely dead. They are no longer answering support requests or making bug fixes and developers can no longer make changes to leaderboards or awards. I'm guessing that at some time in the future (maybe soon) the online high scores through Agon will stop working altogether.
But the good news:
5. GAME CENTER SUPPORT!!! The Creeps! HD now supports Apple's Game Center! There are now Game Center Achievements. Compare scores and achievements with your friends!
I hope you guys enjoy the shiny newness :)

Update...I've been playing this for the best part of the day and had forgotten much fun this tower tower defence game is. The new menus and assets are great, love the mosaic tile level select, very swish, nice touch. I was looking to buy this particular game the day the iPad game came out -but now is the time to buy it with the new update having addressed the issues. Don't get us wrong. For a TD game, it's mechanics and style are amongst the best. However, the developer has chosen to focus on the iPhone/Touch versions which has a far greater range of levels and... well... general lifespan.

I haven't dropped support for The Creeps! HD, but as some of you know, maintaining and updating The Creeps! is something I do in my spare time (which I have very little of). I actually have a full time job, and a very long commute (not to mention a wife to keep happy!).
I'm working very hard to keep all the variations up to date, but I'm the only programmer! The Holiday Edition is my current focus (I have St. Patrick's Day content on the way and I can't exactly make the world delay St. Patrick's Day because I'm not ready yet!). But I also have plans to update the original game with Retina Graphics, and plans for a large update to the Creeps! HD. Hey RS...
...some would say you're a victim of your own success? ;) The Creeps series is excellent and I think anyone who's played any of them would say that. It's just there's no parity between the different versions. I bought the HD version under the assumption it would receive the same treatment that the iPhone/Touch versions have.
This is not a rant to say you have some kind of obligation to being additional content to the HD version, not at all. And every rational person would say that also. It's just a shame to see such an excellent product, on a platform with so much potential, just languish.
So, time is being spent on the holiday edition. Good. Bought it. Loved it. Always will. But how about using that time instead to readdress the imbalance we have between the platforms first, before bringing something new to your eager audience?
So, back to my original point. Sorry. I've given up. Really. I hope you can accept my apologies in terms of my directness.

You are both right. Kinda :)
Apple does not allow the same IAP to be shared between multiple apps. So technically, you could purchase level pack #9 4 times (Creeps, Creeps Zero, Creeps HD, and Creeps Holiday Edition). Which would suck, because they are the same levels.
I have used a kind of work around that allows your purchases in one version to unlock those same level packs in another version. But it only works if the two versions are installed on the same device.
SO, if you wanted to buy a level pack (or the All Access Pass) on your iPhone, then later on decided you want to also have them on your copy of The Creeps! HD on your iPad (a different device), then you can do it without paying again. Simply install the iPhone version (the one you made your purchase in) on your iPad. Use the "restore" option on the level select screen (of the iPhone version!) and it will unlock your level packs for ALL versions of The Creeps! that are installed on that device (that means your Creeps! HD just unlocked level packs even though you didn't buy them through The Creeps! HD). This is the best I can do until Apple allows multiple apps to share IAPs.
There is still the matter of your scores though. As it turns out, Apple has a similar restriction for Game Center... multiple apps cannot share a game center score board. I'm hoping to work around this limitation in the next update using iCloud. This could also make sharing level pack purchases easier. I don't know for sure if it will work, but if it does, you'll see it soon!

Its only about 12 hours since the release, its the developer doing you a favor and coming up with a way to work around App store restrictions, its the exact same thing you had to do with the Holiday Edition, and frankly, you have been on the site long enough to know that RegularStormy posts here all the time and you could have asked before re-buying.
And, since you posted this:
on 04-21-2011, you probably should have tried to see if the iPad version worked the same way.
What is it with people sucking up to developers on this site.
Yes I did post that about the holiday version etc but they were both ipod/iPhone games and it was stated even earlier than when I had posted.
I just think the dev could have mentioned it when he knew the update was about to hit as he would have known it was possible by then and before it actually hit the store.
Sorry for not knowing that I had to swap apps around on my devices

I don't know. What is it about whiney little nobodies who complain about every little thing and don't seems to have any shred of politeness at all?
The guy just did all of us a favor by making the levels available for free, and all you can do it bitch and moan that you didn't know about it for almost 12 hours.
Pardon me for supporting the helpful developer rather then the guy who is cursing at him.

I stated an opinion. I never cursed at the dev I'm not like that. I just think it is a bit shit (as I put it earlier) that he never mentioned it a bit earlier. To be honest I don't see what the problem is that I think that. Just a quick heads up just before it hit just to let people know it was going to be possible if you had the iPhone and iPad versions. Simple. Like you said earlier he posts here a lot.

Perhaps its a translation issue. "A bit shit" sounded like a shot at the developer. Perhaps I misunderstood.

Hi,
I downloaded the $5.99 pack for the Creeps HD - the one with all the levels. Is there any point in still having the Creeps holiday edition on my iPad also? Or is it just redundant?
Thanks!

I e-mailed regular stormy, but is there a way to restore prior IAP if you don't know what you bought? I don't want to guess, as I will get charged if guess wrong... Thanks if anyone knows...

Yes, go to the level select screen, there's a button at the right hand side that says 'restore', that will restore any IAP you've bought before.

The Creeps! HD has all the level packs ever made for Creeps! games. So if you got the all access pass, you don't need the Holiday Edition to have the holiday levels.

Yep, HLW was right. Try the "restore" button on the level select screen :)

Thanks if anyone knows. The Creeps has been the game I have had for the longest time on all my idevices. Thanks for the last few years Regular Stormy.

Deleting the iPhone version from your iPad will NOT re-lock the levels in The Creeps! HD. Thanks for playing! I'm hard at work on the next update already.
By the way, the next update (including new levels!) will be free of charge :D

Red Rover level, I get to the last wave (25) and have the full 10 under the bed when suddenly the bed jumps and the number drops to 7. No creeps anywhere nearby. Played 3 times on easy and medium and it happens every time.
On an unrelated note, the 4th of July levels are my favorite. The firework explosions are great! Any chance of getting endurance or doorbuster levels for that pack? I have played the few levels to death.

Hello.
Really REALLY mad that I have made some in-app purchases in the past, and now I have to pay an extra $6 for the all-access pass (so I am getting double charged). Slap in the face for users that have actually supported you in the past getting double billed.
Bad move. Delete. Thanks for nothing.

The all-access pass also grants you access to future DLC packs, so it really is a good deal especially if you want to support the developer, who has been doing a better job than anyone else supporting a more than a year old game. The iphone version has been out for almost three years and the developer is still adding new content, most of it paid DLC but there have been some free content updates, so give this developer some credit.

I too had prior content, and bought the all- access pass without too much hesitation - maybe a bit. I got my first iPhone in June 2009, and the first game that went on was the free stick wars, the Doodle Jump, then The Creeps. The Creeps has never left any of my idevices, is on my kids since we share an account, and with all the updates, help, fixes, etc. Regular Stormy gets my money. He / they have not always been super prompt, but the fixes get done, the supports been there, and the new content comes along. There are a few developers that do this, but only a few.
As mentioned, the content is accessible on both iPad and iPhones, and ncludes future content. Additionally, because the iPhone and iPad apps are separate, RS could have made it so you HAD to purchase separate DLC for iPad and iPhone. RS provided a work around.
Yeah, it bites paying for stuff twice, but once you have purchased thousands of apps, and realize so much of its crap ( the whole - its only a buck thing makes it really easy to just try something, realize its junk, but hey - it's only a buck) you will come to realize its worth puttung a few dollars into something that has stood the test of time. Something to consider anyhow. It's all business, and if the IAP doesnt generate revenues, maybe he'll lower the price - you can always just wait and watch. For me, I'm happy to help them earn a bit more and hopefully keep them able to continue to support The Creeps, and continue to add new content to it.

I'm doing my best to make a good game. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please get a refund from Apple. I won't take it personally.
If I've learned anything from being a developer, it's that no matter what, you can't make everyone happy. The more you TRY to make everyone happy, the more people you upset. Let me give you some examples: (Theres a TLDR synopsis at the bottom if you don't want to read the giant wall of text)
1. Back before Game Center, I updated The Creeps! to use Agon. Agon was like OpenFeint, except I liked it better. With it, you got free high scores and achievements offline and online. You just had to pick a name. No personal info, no email required, no real name required, no advertising. This was a free update. How awesome is that? Well, it turns out people got very angry. How dare they have to pick a name! Agon must have purchased the game, we sold out! Wait... huh? Well, I worked with Agon directly and they added a feature to allow you to play offline without picking a name. Of course then Game Center came along and put them out of business :/. You added free online high scores and achievement? HOW DARE YOU
2. I made a separate Holiday Edition of the Creeps! It had retina graphics before the original did (it takes a lot of time to fix up the old art from the original levels, it was created before retina displays existed!). People loved it, but I got a ton of email from people complaining that they didn't like having two apps installed. I was confused, lots of games do this kind of thing. Well, ok, I want people to be happy so I spent a lot of time porting the holiday levels to the original game so people would have the option of having a single app. That made people mad too. They already paid for the holiday edition but would rather have one app so now they have to buy the level pack again! Ugh. Ok, so I put in the workaround so if the holiday version is on the same device it unlocks the levels in the original. But not everyone knows about that, so people still get upset. I'm sorry, it's not officially supported by Apple, its the best I can do right now! And its hard to explain to people too. (I'm currently working on adding iCloud support to help with this, but then only iOS 5 users can take advantage of it so anyone with older devices will still be mad).
2b. I added the St. Patrick's day levels to the holiday edition for free. So now the holiday edition and the original both have the Valentine's day and St Patricks day levels. $2 for the holiday edition separately or $1 each for level packs in the original so it's totally fair. But now I want to add a new holiday (Easter). It costs money to make these level packs and keep the game up to date, so I can't make everything free. But if I add Easter to the holiday edition for free and charge in the original that would be unfair to people who want all the levels in the original. So I added it to both as optional DLC to keep it fair (the usual $1). Now people are mad again. How dare I charge money for a holiday themed level pack! Wait, what? The original and the holiday edition both came with about the same number of included levels. Both have DLC for optional extras if you want more. But because it's called "holiday edition", meaning the levels are all holiday themed then people assume all updates forever are free. WHAT? I NEVER promised any such thing!! And then it all became clear. ANGRY BIRDS. Yes, Angry Birds Seasons is a holiday themed version of Angry Birds and puts out free updates. Therefore, since the holiday version of the single most profitable game on the app store EVER gives free updates, then that means it's a LAW or something that every other developer, big or small, with a holiday themed game MUST provide free updates for life. Wow. People are mad at me trying to get $.99 for like 4 months of work because of ANGRY BIRDS. Work hard to make extra content and charge MONEY for it? HOW DARE YOU!
3. I made an HD version of The Creeps! back when the iPad came out. At the time, developers weren't sure how different the iPad version should be. I thought that most of the people who buy my HD version probably already own the iPhone version, so I decided to make ALL NEW CONTENT. Bigger maps that took advantage of the bigger screen. A new battery tower. OUTRAGE. Well, I chose poorly. It turns out that the standard became "iPad version should be identical, but with better graphics". I'm the only programmer, so updating both versions separately was just too much work for me to keep up with... so the iPad version fell behind. I've now updated the iPad version to have both the iPhone levels and the HD levels (and it will never fall behind again)... and now I get complaints from people who already played the iphone levels in the original and are mad that they have already played all the new levels that got added to the HD version. I added a ton of levels for free, and people complain. All new content, people get mad. Add the original content they complained was missing? They get mad again. I can't win.
4. If I ever have a sale or free promotion, people get very mad. Someone who purchased the game, got hours of fun out of it, and gave it a glowing 5 star review suddenly turn on you. You had a sale?! But I paid FULL PRICE!! (which is less than a cheeseburger BTW) ONE STAR REVIEW!! I HATE YOU!! DELETED!! Wow, really? So up until you found out there was a sale, you were very happy, enjoying the game and felt like you got your money's worth. But when I put it on sale, suddenly I've betrayed you, ripped you off? The people who got it on sale are happy, those who missed the sale are mad. Can't please everyone.
5. Did you know, The Creeps! launched on Christmas Eve 2008? It's almost 3 years old! I should celebrate with a sale! Wait, that will make people ANGRY (see #4 above). Over the last almost 3 years, lots of free levels have been added, but lots of paid level packs have been added too. Players wanted more levels, so I worked hard to add more. For long time players, you see things added slowly over time and probably realize that it takes a lot of time and effort and money to make them. But people who buy it today and have never seen it before open it up and see a ton of levels waiting to be purchased. HOW DARE YOU?! I PAID FULL PRICE WHY DON'T I GET ALL THE LEVELS!!! Long time customers happy with new content, new customers ANGRY
6. How do I make new customers happy? How about giving a discounted package deal on ALL the level packs?! The ALL ACCESS PASS. OUTRAGE!! Some new customers STILL angry that they didn't get all the levels included. Other new customers HAPPY that they can get a deal on all the level packs! Existing customers that were on the fence about DLC and never purchased level packs before? HAPPY! Existing customers that have gotten previous level packs ANGRY! How dare I reward loyal customers by making a package deal that they HAVE TO BUY (you know you don't HAVE to buy ANYTHING right? You can still get each level pack individually for the cheapest price Apple allows, right?) and therefore get double charged! Wow, no win here either.
So after three years my final conclusion is this: I will keep trying to make a good product and hopefully people will like it. I can't make everyone happy. If someone is unhappy, that sucks because I want people to enjoy my game... but they are always welcome to get a refund from Apple.
TLDR VERSION!
1. Added FREE online high scores and achievements. PEOPLE ANGRY
2. Two separate versions? PEOPLE ANGRY. Charge money for level pack? OK. If that level pack is holiday themed? PEOPLE ANGRY
2b. Holiday themed game without free updates for life? PEOPLE ANGRY
3. HD version with all new content? PEOPLE ANGRY. Add the iPhone content for free? PEOPLE ANGRY
4. Have a sale? PEOPLE ANGRY
5. Have optional DLC? PEOPLE ANGRY
6. Add a discounted package deal? PEOPLE ANGRY

I have had a moan in this thread. Nothing about the IAP or anything. I don't have a problem with that. I think the price is great and the quality and quantity of it is always top notch.
All I was bugged about was the fact that the work around with the iPhone and iPad versions could have been mentioned earlier as you would have obviously known about it.
Before people pounce and say that I am one of those people that want everything for nothing, I am not. I spend lots on the App Store all the time and try and support developers. I have bought every single piece of DLC for the creeps in the standard version and the holiday version.
Recently got an iPad and bought the HD version too. When the update hit I paid the £3.99 to unlock everything and so did the missus then after that, the work around was discussed on here. You would have known about the work around before the update hit and would have been great if you could have mentioned it bit earlier.
Other than that I love this game and the support you have been giving it. It is always one that I keep going back to.
I understand that it must be frustrating with the work you put in and then people moan and get upset no matter what you do but people come on here and praise the game too which must be great to read. It's not really fair to moan about people being angry though. Everyone has a right to an opinion whether it is good or bad (In your eyes) and they express it here and it should be ok to do so.

Just please make all the levels available on game center for iPad like iPhone version :D.
The HD version does use Game Center, but once again I've run into Apple limitations. Apple only allows 25 high scoreboards in Game Center. I have way too many levels to do that now, even if I have one per level pack and game type. Another Apple limitation: You can NEVER delete a scoreboard after it goes live. This is probably to support people who have an older version of the game. The Creeps! HD has to put all the iPhone levels into one scoreboard per game type because it already used up the rest of its allotment for scoreboards by making individual scoreboards per original HD level. Even the original Creeps! is out of scoreboards and the Halloween level pack doesn't have it's own scoreboards. Its a bummer, but there's nothing I can do. Maybe Apple will change it in the future?
All I was bugged about was the fact that the work around with the iPhone and iPad versions could have been mentioned earlier as you would have obviously known about it.
I could put it in the description, but almost nobody reads it. And the instructions are kind of long. I could put it in the help inside the game, but people don't look there either. Yes, SOME people will, but the vast majority of people won't bother. Its human nature, I don't read the instructions or the help most of the time either. In any case, it won't matter for much longer. The iCloud support I'm working on *should* allow me to unlock the level packs you've purchased for any version of the game, on any device... as long as you use the same apple id to log into iCloud.
It's not really fair to moan about people being angry though. Everyone has a right to an opinion whether it is good or bad (In your eyes) and they express it here and it should be ok to do so.
It is certainly your right to have an opinion, whether I agree with it or not. But don't I have the right to express my opinion too? Seems perfectly fair. Sure, maybe I was venting a little. But my main goal was to let people know that it isn't easy being a developer. I try to make a good product and I try to keep people happy, but it's just not always possible to please everyone. All I can do is try my best, and if that doesn't satisfy a customer, they can always get a refund from Apple without too much effort.

Thanks for the reply to what I said. I understand why it wasn't mentioned now.
IMO I don't think you need to worry about making a good product etc as The Creeps is by far one of the best TD games on the App Store and the updates as I said earlier are always great and cheap as chips.

Wow. Someone who has supported you and your app in the past is upset because he is getting penalized for having supported you, and I get a 2 page rant about how ungrateful people can be who have paid you for your product. Tells me a lot about the man behind the app I supported. Good luck with your product, but I truly no longer care. Far better TD games out there...and more professional developers who haven't forgotten it's never a good idea to alienate their paying customers....

I'm not trying to defend RS, but I don't think he was trying to alienate anyone, I think he was going into detail, that some people will be angry with anything he does, while his goal is to make people happy with the product. He's right. You'll never make everyone happy when you change, add, delete ,etc. Someone will get upset. I think you missed the point. I found the diatribe to be humerous, as someone that works with people, you can't make everyone happy, you do the best you can.
Speaking of which - i think iCloud stinks, because it is very proprietary. I am sticking with dropbox for everything. Is there a way to enable iCloud only for apps, and if I go to disable it, will it threaten to erase everything like it did with my documents, contacts, etc? I only as as you are looking at using iCloud to solve the IAP issue. Or, will the current fix still continue to work?

I think the $5.99 loss in revenue is worth it not to have to deal with an entitled, impossible to please customer.

I'm sorry you feel that way, I really didn't mean to alienate you or single you out. I was just trying to explain why I've made the decisions I've made, and to show how trying to please one group of customers can just lead to upsetting other customers. Maybe I could have done something different that wouldn't have upset you. I'm certainly trying to learn from my experiences. Why do you feel penalized? What did I take away from you? What do YOU think I could have done differently?
will the current fix still continue to work?
Yes, I won't be removing or disabling it. Not everyone will use iCloud, and I don't want to remove functionality for iOS 4.x users. As for the other iCloud questions... sorry I'm no help there. I've just started experimenting with it myself!

For starters, don't tell your paying customers that you don't care if they are not happy and that they should just go away and request a refund.
And your rant was ridiculous...

Raymond, don't be so hard on yourself about your $3 purchase. You don't have crystal balls. And I'm sure you enjoyed the extra levels you purchased. :)
So, anyway...
THANK YOU RS for making The Creeps! HD free this weekend. The Creeps! and geoDefense were my introduction to TD games way back in the early part of 2009.
Now a couple years and a couple devices later I can replay on the "big screen" :)

For starters, don't tell your paying customers that you don't care if they are not happy and that they should just go away and request a refund.
And your rant was ridiculous...
Hmm. I think there's been a misunderstanding. I have never said "I don't care if my customers are happy". I never said, "go away and ask for a refund". I DID say that if you weren't satisfied with the game, you were free to get your money back, and that it wouldn't hurt my feelings. I understand that people may not be happy with a product for whatever reason, and I don't want to keep someone's money who isn't happy with my game.
Not a big deal or anything, but I don't think it qualified as a "rant". Rants are usually people whining and complaining about something... putting other people down for disagreeing with them, and/or calling them names. A lot of times they include outrageous or just plain false claims or accusations. I didn't do any of those things. I just told you what I did, and how people reacted badly to it. It wasn't exaggeration, I didn't lie, it all really happened that way. Yes, I used "how dare you" to add a little drama to my stories, and there was a snarky quip here and there (like the 3 year celebration sale comment). But I never said "these people are wrong!" or "Those people are stupid for reacting this way" or "OMG I can't believe how entitled people are" or anything even remotely like that. I never put down any person or group of people. I never said they were being unreasonable, and I never said I didn't care what they thought. I was certainly surprised with people's reactions in many cases, but I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
But if you actually read my "ridiculous rant", you would see that many of my decisions were made specifically to make my customers happy. And that many of them backfired in one way or another.
From my point of view, with the All Access Pass, I was just trying to make new customers happy. Those people sometimes feel ripped off because they purchased a game, but didn't get 100% of the available content included. It doesn't matter that what's included and what's optional is spelled out in the description, people usually don't read long descriptions so I can't blame them for not knowing. I don't read long descriptions, so how can I expect other people to? They don't realize all those extras took almost 3 years to make, they just think I sold them half a game and withheld content so I could trick them into buying level packs! Of course I know that's not true, but people tend to jump to conclusions.
Also, the All Access Pass isn't a bad deal for most customers who have already purchased level packs. You still save money if you have purchased 4 level packs or less because it will unlock any future level pack for free. Again, I didn't have to make it unlock future packs, but I did to try making people happy. Even if, worst case, you already own 4 packs... and, worst case, there are no new level packs ever... then you would still break even. (And by "worst case" I'm talking about the worst case where it still makes sense to buy the All Access Pass). And for the real fans that buy every level pack as they come out, well those people (who are SO AWESOME by the way) already have all of them except the newest one, and for them to complete the collection will only cost them $.99. So I didn't think anyone was getting screwed, I just thought I was offering a really good deal to anyone who wants to buy all the levels at once.
But from your point of view, you got screwed for not waiting for the package deal. Up until the last update, you enjoyed the game (I'm assuming you did anyway, since you thought it was worth buying level packs). The update didn't take anything away from you, but it still made you feel like you were treated unfairly... because it offered a deal that you couldn't take advantage of. I'm not sure there's a solution to this since sales and bulk discounts are a pretty common business practice.
Hopefully you can enjoy the levels you have, and hopefully you'll feel like you got your money's worth again... like you did a few days ago before the new version came out. I'm not sure what I can do to make you feel better... and I have a feeling these long posts aren't actually helping you, they are probably just making you more angry.
So this is the last I'll say about it:
I'm sorry you feel like you got treated unfairly, but that honestly wasn't my intention.

Think of it as my way of giving thanks to my awesome players! Oh yeah, speaking of giving thanks... it will be a Thanksgiving themed level pack :)

That's what happens when devs nickel and dime consumers.
Regular prive on this game is $4 (no, I didn't pay that) Then an extra $6 for all access.
That's a $10 app for everything at regular price.
This isn't a $10 app. Not even close. Have you seen what you can get for $10 in the iStore. This game isn't very good. I kept it on my ithings because I actually did waste money buying it and level packs. But it pales to other TD games. You treat every update as a chance to get more money from the paying customers and a chance to sucker in more customers while negleting the current user base.
It's second rate apps like this that I usually quickly delete after wasting $0.99 on (or downloaded for free and it wasn't even worth that). It's devs like you who are always trying to bleed more money out of consumers that give the app stare a bad reputation.
Seriously. Go look at what $10 can get you in the app stor and tell me your product measures up. It doesn't.
So, I wasted a few bucks. Shame on me. But and extra $6 is actually laughable. App deleated and moving on...

$10 is about £6 according to Google. That's nothing, that's less than I spend on lunch. And if such a small sum of money is so important to you, why don't you keep the app you'd already paid for? I really can't see the point of deleting it. And why did you buy level packs for it if you don't like the game? Seems a very odd thing to do.
Anyway The Creeps! has many hours of gameplay, easily 10x the amount many 99¢ apps have.

Hi,
Shame this thread went the way it did.
We need to support the good developers and RegularStormy is certainly one of the good ones.
Have had the original version of The Creeps since it launched and it is one of the few games my wife plays, high compliment indeed.
I had been debating getting the HD version here and am quite happy and feel a little bit bad for getting it now for free.
I just want to say thanks to RegularStormy for the neat Halloween gift.

What happened to Raymond has happened to all of us. However it's not fair to fault the developer for trying to find the perfect price point to maximize sales.
I would like to thank Stormy for not going down the "consumable IAP road." I find the $6 pass to be a good price, even though I have already purchased a few level packs; Especially considering that he went out of his way to make it work on both the iPhone and iPad versions.

Hey dev! I had an idea. The other day I was loading the game, and suddenly the the loading screen (the Super Squawk logo) looked to me like a potential tower! Why not have a cockatoo tower that emits a SUPER SQUAWK??!
I'm picturing little sound waves radiating out from a little bird. You could have it level up so that it hits a wider and wider area (maybe the 3rd level-up hits the ENTIRE SCREEN, every enemy. Super duper squawk!)
Your African grey could have some kind of special power too and have its own tower :)
I am seeing a rainforest theme now... snakes and jaguars and monkeys... :)
Just an idea for you to toss into the mill. Love the updates, keep them coming.

Help!
I can't even beat the last Halloween level (titled "hangover") on he easy setting. Please help!
This will beat it on Hard:
Start: Upgrade both piggies to 2nd level and put a fully upgraded gun in the one spot available. Immediately take out 2nd picture frame from top. As soon as you can, put a pumpkin there. This is your master pumpkin and your most important tower. Your basic strategy from here on out is: upgrade the master pumpkin, scatter glues nearby, put 1 flashlight + glue in bottom row for bosses. Later, add 3-4 pumpkins just under the top path. Later still, line of flashlights in very middle. Last wave, do a mid-wave resell, ditch the pumpkins and invest in more flashlights.
A few details:
As soon as you have your master pumpkin placed, aim master pumpkin and gun both at the little chest that is about 3 squares over to the right (I think) just under the path. The pumpkin, when aimed this way, will also take out a picture frame in the bottom row. You need that spot. OK. put a FLASHLIGHT in that spot. Now you can use it to start taking out virtually all goodies on the screen. With your earnings, upgrade master pumpkin all the way, put a glue or two nearby. Then, important, upgrade flashlight to 2nd level and put a fully upgraded glue next to it before wave 10. (don't upgrade the piggies till you're past wave 10)
After wave 10, upgrade both piggies.
While piggies are saving up, work on more pumpkins along the top (just under path) and scatter glues all along the path.
When piggies are ripe, invest in a center row of flashlights.
Last wave: once the baddies are past your top pumpkins/glues, sell top pumpkins/glues & invest in 2 bottom pumpkins + massive amount of flashlights.
g'luck!

After the last update, I've been noticing a lag during play. The screen just freezes for a second or two - usually during the beginning of the game. Anyone else notice this?
Secondly, any tips on how to beat "Charge!!" on the HD levels? I keep getting the snail boss mysteriously sneak in from the left side and appear right into the bed giving me no chance to defeat it before I'm down to 1 life.

I love this game. I got it for iPad, when it was recently free and then bought the big megapack bundle. I think it's a great value for me, and I could care less what someone else paid for it.
That said, I do have an issue with the balance on some levels. I've beaten most survival levels on hard, and on most of those I have gotten a perfect. However, there are some levels that are just completely unbeatable for me even on easy.
You can't raise money fast enough through the various money making methods (kills, terrain, selling, pigs, etc.) to build enough appropriate structures to beat the final few waves on these levels. Nothing sucks more than to move into the next to last level with 10 on the bed and get wiped out by one never ending wave of bosses that seems like a bug. It makes you wonder if these levels were even playtested.
Here are the survival levels in question by pack and name. If anyone has a way to beat them I would greatly appreciate hearing it. Cheers.

Creeps! HD update is out. :)
Zuzax,
You'll need to stretch out how long the creeps live, especially in the early levels. This gives you more time to break down obstacles for extra cash. On any level that gives pots of gold, you should max out all 4 pots.
On the level with all the blocked areas, you need to use weapons that can go through/around the obstructions.

Is this game dead? Any updates or communication from the developers?

Nope, not dead! I'm working on an update right now (I'm also making a new game that I'm crunching on right now to try getting out next month... So wish me luck!)

Update 1.12 was just approved and should be on the store in the next couple of hours! It includes a free new bonus level and a new level pack! If you already own the All Access Pass, the new level pack is free!
Also, Check out Crash Cam (being released on January 17th). If it does well, I'll start making Creeps 2!!

Any word on Creeps 2?
I'd like to know this too. A sequel would be by welcome.

This is one of my all time favorite tower defense games, in fact it is one of the few games that I will never delete. The Creeps 2, bring it! :D
