Would be the perfect Ipad game. And appeals to the masses.

I would absolutely love RCT 1/2 on the iPad. There are several users over at MacRumors who support the idea as well.
Think about the amount of income Chris Sawyer could rake in from it. $15, maybe even $20 would be fair, in my opinion.
The only problem, though, is contacting him. Nowhere on his site is a good way to contact him. He's buffered by a sort of talent agency, whom I suspect wouldn't make it very easy to contact the master himself. If anyone's willing to try, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt. We really need to show our support for this game. Another user on MacRumors and I were contemplating a petition. Not a petition to try to force it, just a good way to show the support for the game.
I dunno, just an idea.

I emailed the people who represent Sawyer, and they basically said they can't say anything but that it would be dumb to let such a big franchise sit idle. But that could mean anything - PC/console/Ipad. I imagine Atari would announce something at E3 if it is in the works.

Forget the actual game. They should have a RCT3 editor with tool kit packs so we can make those really wicked, themed coasters that are on Youtube. RCT2 was fun, but I never spent as many hours on that game as I did playing with track designing on RCT3. Many would disagree with a water-downed, partial version of a game, but COD zombies did not include the game's original campaign and is still a huge success. Bring map editor capabilities and i'll pay $20 for it. Aircoaster Pro is great for designing tracks, but the disneyland styled themes in the Rollercoaster Tycoon series are beyond priceless. Maybe the community's interest in ipad\iphone versions of this classic will create enough momentum to finally invest in a pc version of RCT4, which i have been patiently waiting for since 2007.
Never thought of that --RCT2 would be ridiculously perfect on iPad. I wouldn't mind RCT3 but that's even far from happening.. I've created some themed coasters (and many theme packs) for the PC version way back when....

Wait, JCat? Aka Pumper? From Atari?
TheClaff, Atari almost certainly wouldn't have anything to do with the game. Chris Sawyer and Atari got in a legal dispute a few years ago over the rights to the game. Because of the crap that went on with RCT3, Chris has a very f*** it attitude towards the series now. But considering RCT2 would just be a port over to the iPad, it would require practically no effort on Chris Sawyer's part.
The way I see it, he would only need to release the rights to a porting company such as Aspyr and allow them to program it for the iPad. However, it may not be that simple. But from my point of view, it seems simple.

I second this, lost way too much of my life from it.

Why not iPhone/iPod as well? The screen is smaller, but with a good zoom/pan/menu system it would still work. Ever since I got my iPhone I wished I had Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 on it in some form or another.

That would be fantastic as well. The way I'm thinking, though, is we're already pushing it asking Chris Sawyer to even rekindle the series. Porting RCT2 straight to iPad wouldn't require any real redesign of the game. The resolution is the same. With iPhone/Touch, some reworking would be required.
That being said, I would love to see that. It's not out of the realm of possibility, either.
Wait, JCat? Aka Pumper? From Atari?
.
Yeah, that's me. lol
The coaster community is a small world sometimes You have an iPad? Your name sounds familiar from the Atari forums - those were the good ol' days (but time consuming as all hell).

The coaster community is really small. I was mostly active a year before RCT3 came out up until a year after its release. I think it was around the time you were active too. Those were simpler times, that's for sure.
I have my iPad 3G ordered. This "late April" ship date is killing me! lol

I started the MacRumors thread a while ago...forgot about it! Let's start a petition and figure out how to contact Chris. I am floored by how absolutely perfect a fit this game would be on the iPad. 1024x768 was the sweet spot res for that game back when it was big, no sprites/animations would have to be touched. Just slightly bigger interface buttons and it'd be a hit.
...How do I start a petition?! I'm gonna go rekindle the macrumors thread.

He did another game after RCT using the same engine. It was called Loco-Motion, I think. It was kind of a Transport Tycoon remake. I'd like to see that as well. However, as much as I'd like to see it happen, I'm skeptical that it will. He's most likely not living under a rock and the thought must have occurred to him already. If he was interested, he'd almost certainly have shown his face by now. On top of that, he's never been an Apple fan...

As pointed out in the MR forum, its Frontier who are the developers and Atari who probably own the rights as publisher.
Either way I'd truly love RCT to come to the iPad.

When the iPad was announced, this was one of the first things I thought about. I don't care so much for RCT3 but the charm and design of the first two games I love. Although unlikely considering how old the game is (not exactly easy to port), i'd love this to happen :3

I'm all for it - it's the perfect game for this medium!

On another note, have you guys seen AirCoaster yet? It's available on both iPad and touch/phone... Not a game as such, but an incredibly comprehensive roller coaster editor and simulator. It's dirt cheap, and there's so much on offer, one could spend hundreds of hours creating coasters and riding them.
It's worth mentioning it's a full 3D editor with the ability to fine tune the track into pretty much any way you want, including loops, corkscrews, tunnels and even invisible "jumps". If you're a fan of creating such things, there's no better app available.
As for rct3, Thatd be nice to have, but I'd be even more keen for the original theme park game by bullfrog... That was a brilliant game and would really suit the iPad. (heck, while I'm wishing, I'll add theme hospital to the list ^_^)

halo ?
He's referring to Gameloft's Nova series.
I 100% agree - RCT 2 was made for the iPad, no doubt about it. RCT3 would be nice, but it needed the computers powering Tron Legacy to run it..that is, if you wanted all the features.

Has anyone actually contacted Frontier or Atari, (I heard about the Chris thing)
Even if it was just a way to ride or create tracks from the game, it would be successful. By the way, if these devs are going to be an ass about porting it, maybe we should try contacting a developer interested about the game. From my own speculation, Gameloft seems to take game requests quite seriously. Hell, if Gameloft did it, it may be even better than a straight port anyways.
BTW, Holy Crap. JCat? THE JCat? I never really put 2 and 2 together until iChase mentioned it. Really enjoyed your CS sets, as of right now both The Dark Ride Set and SpaceWorx are the most downloaded at Vodhin, (1st and 2nd, respectively), and have no intention of being, uh, out-downloaded. (I am surprised SteelWorx wasn't up there in the top 3 though).

Since I probably figured that Chris Sawyer or any of his 'talent agencies' aren't going to put this together for the iPad, I suggested the idea to Gameloft's head of sales, and he said:
Thanks for your suggestion. I will pass this along to our development
team for consideration.
That probably means nothing, but at least they have the idea in their heads. This is what I said to them:
Hey Tim,
I'm not sure if I'm contacting the right person about this, but I have
an idea for a game that I think would make game loft a ton of money. I'm
sure you've heard of the old roller coaster tycoon games, basically the
game would be just that. Roller coaster tycoon for iPad/iPhone/iPod
Touch. The original game was a hit and I don't see how this wouldn't be
as huge a hit. I would suggest $3- $5 for iPhone version, and probably
$7-$10 for iPad version. Like I said this is just an idea, and I hope
you take this seriously as I have seen several forums out there
requesting this game, and so many people would love to see it come to
iOS. I don't want any money if you make this, so don't worry about that
(haha), just a huge fan of Gameloft and Roller Coaster Tycoon, trying to
make your successful business, even larger.
Hope we can make this happen!
