Many thanks from the producer... and actually he's working on CHAOS RINGS HD?? http://bit.ly/b3hiul #iPhone

Hello! It’s me, Ando again!
First of all, let me thank you!!
CHAOS RINGS became the top grossing app in nine countries, including US and Japan!
Thank you very much, I am really really happy!
I want to have a party with everyone!
I wish I could go all countries and see you guys!!
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs281.snc3/27711_405883699364_167831379364_5199201_8300859_n. jpg
I was moved to try CHAOS RINGS HD…
Creators in Media Vision are so nice and clever that actually the game launched and moved.
It was so exciting and impressive, especially battle scenes!
Of course it needs many revising and adjustments, but now I seriously think CHAOS RINGS HD is quite a good idea, if CHAOS RINGS is appreciated.

Well, we’ll keep on creating other good games too!
Must have a party first to do that…
Gratefully,
Takehiro Ando

Yeah this is why I stopped buying iPhone games unless they are $.99. Waiting for the iPad version sucks but sometimes its worth it :)

Wow, if it's that much, forget about it. The game's nice, but it's certainly not a full-fledged game. More like an XBLA or PSN downloadable game, which is why the original 13 buck price was reasonable.
Count me as one of the annoyed early adopters who bought the iPhone version only to play on the iPad.

With the massive success of CHAOS RINGS I wouldn't be surprised of Square Enix ports FF7 to the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. Even just a direct port enhanced with touchscreen controls and higher polygon models would sell very well at, say, a $20 price point.
But that's not the topic. Personally, I wouldn't have gotten this for iPad even if I held off on getting the iPhone/iPod Touch version. I carry my iPod Touch around all the time, and CHAOS RINGS is designed for mobile use. My iPad stays at home.

Ummmm... Shadow Complex???
Not an RPG, but certainly a complete game that was excellently done.
I would also love to see FF VII on iPhone / iPad, although I would say that the graphics need to have a serious update. I did not mind on the PS, but have grown too used to having nicer graphics with the more recent iterations..

There are a few "lite" RPGs that have been released on XBLA like the two Penny Arcade Adventures and a Vandal Hearts prequel. Chaos Hearts is between 4 and 6 hours to play through the first team. That's pretty much the game, repeated 3 more times (by playing the other teams). If this was on the PSP at 40 bucks it would be torn apart by critics. The game is good, but as I said before, not a full fledged game.

- That's more 6 or 8 hours than 4 or 6 hours for one team.
- There is more than 3 team to play.
- Playing other teams is a part of gameplay.
- The core of the game is upper class, the battle system is far better than in some "real" RPG on PSP.
you have some short games and "bad" games on PSP for 40 bucks.
If this was on the PSP at 40 bucks it would be torn apart by critics: Why, the game is really good, and it is a "real" game, excellent design and battle system, a little short, but it's all.
I have played FFXIII on my 360.
It's a crap for me. It's 50 hours of game, superb graphics, good battle system but it is a crap.
Chaos Ring is a gem, short gem but a gem, nothing to do with "not full fledged"

I suppose, but has the one for download on the PSN Store been remastered in any way? Let me revise my statement: I think a remastered port (for music/SFX, polygon count, touchscreen controls) of FFVII could sell well at a $15-20 price point.

I gave up waiting and bought the game about three weeks ago. I figured:
1. I already waited 1 1/2 months, and who knows when the HD version will arrive? Another month? Two? Four?
2. HD version will be most likely be pretty expensive.
3. Saw video of it running on an iPad -- didn't look too bad (and it isn't).
The game is great if you like RPGs, but Square Enix missed out. They took too long. I probably won't buy the HD version now unless it's on sale for $5 or less, because I'm not into replaying RPGs. Even if they add an extra level or character or whatever to the HD version, it won't be enough for me to justify spending $20+ they will likely be charging.

Yeah, I edited my post above for clarity. I guess I can see how the mistake could be made if he was reading fast and didn't my conversation with ipod's rock from the previous page. The little 1X on the bottom of the screens should have been a clue, though. ;)
The screens are also a bit misleading, because it doesn't look nearly that jaggy in motion.

Okay, I finally got around to taking a video of the iPhone/iTouch version running on my iPad:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T0PMkqrOYc
It's a little over 4 minutes showing the opening of the game, running around and a bit of the menu.
This is the first video I've tried taking of anything running on it, and I think it turned out decent enough. Obviously click on the 720p option on the bottom right of the Youtube screen for higher quality video.

I seriously thought we'd see CR HD this month but looks like we'll still have to wait for August. Or maybe even later. :(
Chaos Rings for iPad tentatively set for August release
We already know that Square Enix is working on an adaptation of their pricey iPhone and iPod touch role-playing hit, but just when Chaos Rings will hit iPad has been unknown until now.
A source now tells me that the game is nearing release. Late August looks increasingly likely with the game nearing the end of its truncated development cycle. Since the game has already been expertly designed for iPhone and iPod touch, all of the development has been focused on tailoring the graphics and interface for the larger iPad screen.
Square Enix doesn't comment on release dates, so we'll know only when the game appears on the App Store for sale.

Oh my gosh! Late August?? Can't wait. Instant buy for me!!! IMO this will be the epitome of iPad gaming for my device, which I could also show off to all my friends who are mostly PSP gamers.
Looking forward to a sequel to FF Tactics on the iPad. Or an exclusive FF title for the iPad.

Read through the comments here (http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?threadid=56772). As you will be able to tell, I'm very enthusiastic about the game -- I've put in over 20 hours into it and nowhere near finished. It's a true SRPG and one of the best RPGs in the App Store.

FF Tactics is my favorite game of all time. I've read it here in TA that they're finally porting it to the iPhone/iPod Touch. It'd be great for an iPad version but having already played it, I'm looking forward more to a sequel of some sort, and for the iPad of course. Even before the iPad came, I've always thought that the App Store was lacking in much much needed long-term TBS games like FF Tactics, which is so perfect for the platform. And now we've got the iPad! Square Enix better start moving!
And regarding War of Eustrath, it would have been great with better visuals.

You can bet it won't be a lazy rush job like some games and apps porting from the iPhone version hoping fans to double dip. SE is taking it's time with it that's why it takes a bit more wait. Just like the wait for the iPhone CR, it was so worth it.

Price points which devs base from a lot of factors but mainly from the effort and quality of the game. That's one of the reasons why Chaos Rings for the iPhone is priced at a premium of $12.99. This was a game developed from the ground up specifically for the iDevice. That's why it took them a while. So if you want to compare price points based on 2 games that differ in quality, you're on thin ice.

Yup I've read good reviews. The map is acceptable. But i was really hoping for great visuals on the battle screen with nicely designed units that you can really appreciate combined with awesome animations for battle actions. Might give it a shot though if I grow tired of waiting for an FF Tactics or even a Front Mission 3-inspired TBS RPG.

Yes, but they would have already recouped their cost for the iPhone development on the iPhone. For the iPad, they're taking an existing game and optimizing it. They don't need to pay for the original development again, just the changes, so there's no reason it couldn't sell for the same price.

Looks like we'll just have to come back and read our posts again once Square Enix releases the game with the price then. I'm willing to bet it won't have identical cost as the iPhone version. We'll see.

I understand what seyoon is saying and I agree. It will take much more work to optimize in terms of graphics and whatnot. But what I'm thinking is that Square Enix may have the mentality that no matter which version you're purchasing, whether for the iPhone or iPad, it will be the same price. I mean, there are many, many apps that are optimized for the iPad that cost more, but, in reality, there aren't many differences. So seeing that Crystal Defenders is the same price for both version, Square Enix may be starting a pattern to make their iPhone/iPad versions the same price.

Exactly. Since Square Enix is a large company, I can almost guarantee that some other part of the company (Sales not development) is setting the prices for games. Also, name an iPad game over $10 that has sold well? I know Square was the first iPhone game over $10 (I think this is right, correct me if I am mistaken), but I doubt you will find many people that will pay over $13 for a game without physical media. But seyoon is correct, we will just have to wait and see.

On PC more and more people are bored to manage game boxes and find better get digital versions and pay full price digital games, ie like 40$. But mainstream PC games are often games with probably 10 time more production value than a game like CR. Also digital allow much more frequent sales. And after first months the sales can be more important at least for many games.
Since not that much time I also adopted this point of view on PC. On idevice well it's a little a chaos so it ends for me to not buy that much games above 5$ and much between 1 and 3$. But well it's not the same content than games I could have buy 40$ on PC. For indie games on PC (a significant number get ported on idevice) the price is much more often to 20$ and can drop down quite lower after few months, well again not for all.
