Arn just posted a preview on Nex
http://toucharcade.com/2009/02/18/nex-an-upcoming-cooperative-first-person-shooter/

What do you guys think?

Everything looks great, but I am unsure about those model animations...

Meh, I'll never have high hopes for an iPhone FPS. If I want a good co-op game or FPS, I'll get something for my PS3. The iPhone just isn't really suited to this style, and even though this looks well done, I probably won't bite. I'm not saying FPS can't be done, it just hasn't really been proven yet

The game looks ok, but BIA still looks way better

This is the closest thing to Nex on the PC that I could find:http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f3768.html.

If they can make it as good as the game above, then I'm buying Nex.

I agree with you (Killzone 2!!).

I didn't like BIA nor Cube...

You mean Killzone 2? Ha

And I agree, I haven't liked any of the shooters that have come out on the iPhone yet. Two thumbs just can't control a whole FPS

Why hasn't an FPS used the dual joystick control method yet? Like what hero of sparta / rebolt use but with two on each side? Wouldn't that work or am I missing something?

How would you fire?

Anyone think he walks like he has a bad case of piles?

Anyone think he walks like he has a bad case of piles?

That made me think of the Cohens' "The Lady Killers"(the most underrated comedy, ever):

"You mean to tell me you never once suffered from piles? Well, it's the human condition. Most humans, anyhow. Like that ballplayer said, 'The world's got two kind of folks: Them that's got the piles and them that's goin' get 'em.'"

Anyhow, did anyone see more than one type of enemy in the trailer? I hope they finish this game before it comes out. A lot of devs want to rush things too much.

How would you fire?

A button directly beside the left or right thumbstick maybe? Or if you hold the idevice in landscape mode, your index finger is free to tap the top corner, that way your thumbs never have to lift from the controls.

That would be a pretty awkward hand position (uncomfortable too) and your fingers would cover too much of the screen. In iDracula they're doing the double joystick but then it fires automatically every x amount of time, so different guns have different firing speeds (I believe...) I just don't think solid controls can be put in place for a FPS on a completely touch screen device. The DS nailed it with the shoulder buttons to shoot, d-pad to move, and bottom touch screen to aim

for me it doesn't look very promising.
3d realms should make duke nukem 3d for iphone/ipod touch :D

here's the dev's comments on the controls

Controls. Yes there is the on-screen pad, but you can also set the accelerometer for left/right, forwards/backwards or both if you wish. Firing is either by tapping the current ammo type icon in the lower right (with ammo levels and gun temperature shown), or by tapping the screen to aim precisely. We gave both options as whilst tapping the screen is more accurate, your finger blocks a lot of the action while doing it.

Tapping the scanner in the top left brings up the large order screen. You can flick and pinch to zoom/pan and check out the map layout whilst giving your orders here.

The order screen also shows your mission objectives - e.g. mine this area (shown on scanner) and exit with 2 commandos at this point (again shown on scanner).

And in the top right is your inventory which again you flick through for items you've picked up (ammo, medipaks, door passes) or to perform certain actions (lay mines, set timed bombs, seal off doors), as well as the usual game settings/help/exit.

Yeah, it's true that much of the screen is hidden at this point by fingers.

Hrm.

How about if the mic senses a loud enough sound? You could scream "BANG" when you want to shoot. You'd get a few looks in the office / bus / whatever, but hell, if it frees up more of the screen, then it's worth it.

Of course I'm joking. I give up. I mean, the tapping the back of the device method that silent hill has going is a good concept but didn't really work out...

Ha, that would be quite an interesting control scheme to say the least! The iPhone just wasn't made to run FPS...
