I am getting the ipad at the end of the month and I am still not sure if I should get the 3g. I will use it mostly at home and do not care to check my email....etc

I am just wondering if there are any cool aps that use the gps / data that I might enjoy.

Any thoughts ?

I waited for the 3G units to be available because I was originally going to get one, but I ultimately went with the wi-fi only version. 3G service is far from the best, and you can easily find wi-fi readily available in most areas. I too will be using my iPad mostly at home, so 3G would only be useful in random connectionless emergencies. I took the extra 130 bucks and bought new headphones, games, and iPad accessories.

I've personally never had problems finding wifi.

I'm probably the only user on this site who is buying the 3G version. I'm getting mine in a week and the thought of me being with it without internent kills me!!! I'll post a review of the 3G one the day I get it. And I'll let you know if I have regrets

Are there any apps that use the data / gps ? Also how is the gps function different in the ipad 3g and is it really useful?

I am looking for a reason other than just surfing/checking email etc... to get the 3g.

I was going to buy a 3G, and then had a business trip right after the launch, so I bought the wifi and figured i would hand it down to the kids when the 3Gs came out.

So far, I haven't felt the need to 3G. It might be convenient, but for the most part, I just run to the nearest Starbucks and use the free wifi provided by my rewards card.

in the future, I might have to step up to a 3G, but I am not looking forward to paying for the data plans.

3G. That is all.

btw, if the rumors of AT&T allowing tethering on 4G iPhones is true, I don't think that I will bother upgrading to an iPad 3G.

I bought the 3G iPad the day it came out. I definitely recommend getting the 3G instead of wifi-only--you never know what apps will come out in a few months that might require it. The fact that there is no monthly contract pretty much makes it a no-brainer, IMO.
