Invaders World Tour Review

Fans of retro arcade gameplay will be delighted to hear that Xtremics LTD has released Invaders World Tour. The game brings back memories of the fast and furious gameplay of Space Invaders, an arcade game to which I lost many a quarter. In Invaders World Tour, it is your job to defend country after country using your little spaceship to shoot down invading Swoopers, Saucers, Crawlers, and Packers.

Your ship is controlled using the accelerometer, which works smoothly and cleanly. Above the ship are three laser shields, but be careful; after a couple rounds of enemy fire, they will be no more. Enemies are varied and come charging down-screen at you, shooting and spinning their way towards your ship as you frenetically tap the screen to shoot them down. The controls are precise and done well, with a minor problem being a bit of a finger ache after furiously tapping the screen for a couple minutes. Occasionally, a power-up will drop from the sky, and if you shoot it down you will be rewarded with a boosted shield or a better weapon.*
The game has achieved the perfect balance of being challenging without being frustrating. Quite a few times you will lose a couple lives, and you will have to summon all of your finger-mashing skills to successfully save the country. With 12 countries to save, there is plenty of playtime to get of this $1-game.

The graphics are immaculate and enjoyable. Each country has a unique backdrop, which is well rendered, and the invaders all manage to look cute and ferocious at the same time. This game is very pleasing to the eye, and the sounds are impressive as well, with a symphony off* explosions and bullets shots completing a well-polished gaming experience.
Overall, it’s hard not to recommend Invaders World Tour. Sure, the gameplay does get a bit repetitive at times, but the concise controls, slick graphics, and enormous amount of playtime contribute to a fantastic gaming experience. All this for just a dollar. If you don’t want to drop the cash yet, check out Invaders World Tour: America, which is the lite version. Retro fans, rejoice!
