I was on there for a bit, but it's almost 3:00 am in the US and the game just came out, so I doubt you'll find anyone yet.

BTW, no DLC. This thing is polished like glass. Well worth 2.99 (as long as they get players).

it's the full game, they could implement that credit scheme in future updates, but I really really really don't want them to. So far the game runs pretty smooth.

Just played one quick match 1 on 1. Perfectly smooth, controls are easy, the maps are big but with radar it's a cinch to find your enemy. Wish it had more environmental sounds, but that's not such a big deal. Felt very much like Unreal Tournament, but without the taunting. Can't wait to play with a full team.

Ok after a few more matches, melee seems way too powerful. So does the sniper. And I had the game almost lag out to where everyone was just frozen but you couldn't hurt anyone, then I just died out of nowhere.

Still having fun though :)

Tried on my iPhone 3G & 4. Runs absolutely fantastic on the iPhone 3G and it is 1000 seems a thousands times cleaner and nicer on the iPhone 4. Dare I say that it is better than N.O.V.A.? Anyway, I tried a 4 on 4 match since their hasn't been a lot of people on yet and it seems to run without lag on both the iPhone 4 and 3G, both running iOS 4. Will have a review on my site tommorow. Wow, this game is freaking iPWNAGE!!!

Here are my first impressions.

The games very fun on the iPhone 4 and is probably the most crisp I have ever seen on an FPS, even over Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance. Quick warning to 3G owners though. Try to do 3-4 player matches, I found that 5 on 5 death matches were very laggy on the 3G and mine crashed a few times before it was up and running again properly. There is absolutely no lag at all on the iPhone 4 and it did not crash at all. A very well developed First Person Shooter. The only thing that I would reccomend is chatting over a headset and such. Other than that, this game is amazing and is probably the best First Person Shooter on the App Store Now. Game of the month baby, woo!!

It's ok mate you can change servers and play anyone.I just went on ASIA and played Kewl 1v1,and he kicked my a$$ 5-2 ;) so it's all good.Usually play on Europe which is where i'm at.Loads of players on Europe and rest will fill up soon enough.The 5v5 is the $%£^^%.Went on Czech store and got this a while ago as my card worked on there and it's well worth it.

Been having fun with this one, even though I generally suck at FPS games. (Apologies in advance to anyone here unfortunate enough to find me on their team.) Everything works well. Connection is normally a problem for me, but yet to hit anything remotely unplayable on any of the servers. Loading times are super fast, games are short and sweet. Pretty much a class act all round.

Shame that there isn't a lite version. I'm all for buying apps before trying them out, but since I'd be playing this on my iPad, I'd definitely need to try out the controls before laying down the money.

I love the game! Awesome graphics. Plays really smooth in 3Gs. Controls are perfect for FPS (just like NOVA). Not too much players in Asia yet. Lag is okay when playing in US west and east coast servers (abt 250ms. I live in the Philippines).

Wish list:

- longer game times. Games end too soon.
- Ability to host a game and manipulate game variables (race to x kills or time limit).
- ability to jump (If this feature is available i dont know how)
- ability to voice-chat (this is a stretch I know)
- local bluetooth multiplayer

First off, this is a very nice looking game and I admire the developers for all their hard work.

Constructive criticism:

Pros:
Beautiful graphics
Smooth gameplay
multiplayer
Controls are impressive for dual-stick (COD zombies should take a hint from you guys)

Cons:
No bots or skirmish mode for off-line play. I've spent a lot of time trying to get into a multiplayer death-match. The training is the only way to see how smooth this game is, and while it is useful, it's rather boring. I keep seeing people come and go, come and go, on the match-screen. I wish there was some way to just play AI bots like UNREAL TOURNEY, so that anyone can experience this work of art without all the lag and drop-outs. Perhaps make it an in-app purchase so the development team can make some cheddar off their work.

Other than that, this game rocks and has the potential to beat out all the FPS games that are currently available.

Be a shame if not. Playing over 3G I've had no lag... feels far more solid than Eliminate. I will say that the autofire option seems like an advantage... so where I'd rather not use it I feel I must otherwise people who do will have an advantage over me. Could just be my bad aim / movement I guess :D

The rendering is done by the device itself, not the server. As long as their servers can handle the load, there really shouldn't be much of a difference.

And yes, as Gabrien pointed out, the whole package is very professional -- something that is often missing in iPhone gaming. Well worth the asking price.

Hey guys, I've been playing Archetype to write up a review and I'm really impressed (I got addicted to Eliminate when it came out!). Quite simple and straight forward, this is just about online play, which is perhaps justified with such an affordable price.

The control scheme is very good, I found some issues with auto-fire mode, but this can be customised in the settings with aim sensibility. I have played with eight players on the same scenario and the game didn't lag at all. I haven't managed to play against so many players on 3G but the experience was similar.

As some users have posted before I was also frustrated waiting in the lobby. Perhaps it's because it wasn't released yet, but it would take like 40 seconds for someone to show up.
Tips:
- After a deathmatch, go to main menu and start new deathmatch. Going to the lobby directly from the game stats screen seemed slower.
- Choose the right timezone (Europe was the best, I guess for beta testers based here)
- Vetoes can get really wild. I think that if you veto all, you'll be assigned to a new group.

Unless you were phished by giving out your password to any email that says it's from apple/iTunes support or you just have a terrible password that is easy to crack you're fine.

1. yes, they're like achievements. you have to
fullfill the requirements

2. that's the "ping", a higher number means worse internet speeds(correct me if i'm wrong)

This game is awesome, the only problem is, is that melee is utterly useless cause you die so fast. like 3 shots from any gun and you die, and the rocket launcher is insta kill, this game is still amazing I just think that the guns should be a little less powerful. Other than that, the only other problem I have is that if you turn auto fire off, you have to tap the joystick to shoot, it's kind of annoying in my opinion, I wish that there was a button for shooting instead. Otherwise this game is amazing, and 4 vs 4 is ultra smooth, no lag :) I also like the challenge option. If anyone wants to add me, my combat tag is Astrauk.

Well, if you go at someone with an axe while they're pointing a shotgun at you, you'll get fragged. Melée works when you can catch people from behind, or surprise them in some way -- which is tough to do on a 1x1 or 2x2 match.

As far as I can tell, XP doesn't do anything except increase your rank, and as far as I can tell, rank doesn't do anything. They kind of tricked me with the illusion of progression. I was hoping from some MW style XP system.

I'm pretty sure that's what the challenge option is for, so you can go against people in your buddy list. I just earned the cutthroat achievment to, I got a triple kill then a double kill (I love grenades ;))

Yeah I actually find the melée system pretty balanced, it's their as a backup, not a primary attack with weapons, and the axe still utterly destroys, and they've patched that from what it used to be.

Edit: got most of the basic medals in my play now I think. Got a 5kill spree one the other day which I was quite pleased with, but I must admit the 30kill spree medal seems to be technically impossible unless you kill 5 teammates, somehow not get booted now they've implemented that system, AND get every single opposition kill without dying.

Nope not freemium. The only other thing I wish was that you could set up a game and decide options like map and stuff, and decide whether you want to have a time limit with unlimited kills, no time limit with a number of kills, both or neither. That and capture the flag would make this game the best multiplayer fps in the appstore, it already is close.

It's not freemium, and to whoever it was who asked about offline play, there's a timed tutorial thing with a small achievement for targets knocked down in the time, but it's fairly weak. The game is very much just for online.

This game feels really cod like. However, I'm starting to get annoyed with all the melees. It seems like everyone loves to get up close and knife. It's fun all right for the guy who's doing it but not so fun for the victim. Maybe a hardcore mode can be added in the future? With no grenades as well. EXO is interesting, but it doesn't feel as visceral as Archetype -- in part because it's a TPS. In any event, there's definitely room for more than one approach to an online shooter.

I dislike autofire, you can't really sneak up on someone unless you aim down. The graphics in this game are great because it's all indoors and it feels boxed in. EXO-Planet (http://itunes.apple.com/app/exo-planet/id376024937?mt=8) is wide open. I've never played another game like Exo Planet on the iPhone. But, I've played Archetype before. Hence the name.

Don't get to enthusiastic. There is a lot of luck with that auto aim. I one shoted people from across a wide open room with the starting machine gun becuase of random head shot crap. I really really hope they give the option to turn off auto fire for the group in matches. Its a little silly at the moment.

I am not sure if I am getting the hang of this game or not... I will unload a bunch of rounds into someone and it doesn't phase them then they turn around and 3 machine gun shots = death. I have point blank shot someone with the shot gun then melee.... no death. It might be lag, but the damage seems really really random in this game for me.

i'll pay to have this game be the first fps that uses the gyro instead of stupid thumbsticks for aiming and shooting.

Eliminate is still better than this one. I haven't paid a dime for Eliminate Pro and I am approaching Rank 26. You don't have to buy anything for that game. You get energy from killing and waiting an hour at a time. Patience, people!

So yeah. Gyro + Archetype = Worth it.

Eliminate is very much focused on the RPG/gear component, which for me is more fun and better developed that the actual gameplay. Archetype just has the right feel to the combat, which makes it more immersive than Eliminate, though not as deep. For me, this is really the perfect byte-size online FPS experience.

You should have seen how the axe used to be before one of the updates. I think it had something like a 10yard swing radius.

The game stores usernames inside the device itself, not in the server. If you get a new device, you are forced to choose a new username (or contact support apparently). Not fun at all. -_-

If you're jailbroken, just use UDID Faker. It'll treat the app as if you just downloaded it as new.

I'm going to do what support told me to do for now since my Girlfriend wants to play as well: I'll create a new character which will be my girlfriends and she can play mine on my old device. and support told me they should have a fix so we can transfer names to other devices in about a week.

So for now i'll be playing under a name Lucerra till the next update.
and I may keep push notifications off due to work and sleep - will not be playing at those times.

Eliminate has better graphics and smoother animations IMO. There's something that annoys me with the running animation in this game...

Also, there are only Practice mode and Deathmatch mode at the moment. There are no separate Team/FFA Deathmatch modes.

Well I've played about 11 matches so far and... Wow am I impressed! The game controls are excellent, it runs without a hitch, no lag encountered yet and it's probably the most fun I've had playing a game on my touch. I'm already lance corporal and loving it. The graphics are great as well. Completely blows Eliminate out of the water (only played it once because it was absolutely no fun to me). So far it's totally worth 3 bucks and more IMHO.

Way better than eliminate because you don't have to get power cells or wait for them to recharge. it's also up to 10 players at a time, and much much smoother.Don't forget you don't have to buy your weapons.

I think you mean the opposite, but I get you. As I said before, they're both pretty different games, but I'm finding Archetype to be more compelling. EXO is a great concept, though, and maybe it will grow on me.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but if you feel that way, go play Eliminate. To me Archetype is like playing softball with buddies. Everybody plays with the same equipment, and what sets you apart is your ability, not whether you have titanium bat. Not everything needs to have an RPG style upgrade path. And in any event, what's the point? If you turn yourself into a beast, then playing is no fun. If you end up in a balanced team, all that fancy gear makes no difference. I'd much rather start even and stay even. [/rant]

Really impressed with the frame rate and matchmaking speed! It literally takes less than 10 seconds to matchmake and jump into a game. The only thing I'd like to see is more weapons and also something for ranking up (instead of just trying to earn medals). I hope this game continues to get regular updates!

Really impressed with the frame rate and matchmaking speed! It literally takes less than 10 seconds to matchmake and jump into a game. The only thing I'd like to see is more weapons and also something for ranking up (instead of just trying to earn medals). I hope this game continues to get regular updates!

The getting something for playing more is good, but I really miss the days of quake and doom. You know, where you played because the game was fun and not for a new weapon or gamertag logo.

I ended up getting this game today, and I'm really impressed! This game is great! I love the old-school FPS style of picking up weapons in-battle, and this game executes it well. I just wish that in a game like this there were more weapons. It feels like I keep picking up the same guns over and over, with some being very slight variations of others. A small complaint, but more guns would be great.

I also wish that there was a fire button, rather than the auto-fire system in place. Even with auto-fire off, all I have to do is highlight someone with the crosshairs and tap the screen to initiate auto-fire. I just wish that the player could control how and when to fire, allowing for more tactics like walking into an area and just spraying bullets, made impossible by the game's system. It's not enough to hold me back from loving this game, but it's somewhat annoying.

Yeah I wish I had more control of the shooting. I feel as though I dont have complete control over the player. o well still pretty good.
