iTunes has looked like this for 4 hours now...

I'm scared as to how long this will actually take.

What possessed me to upgrade iOS4 right after starting Prisoner 84 is beyond me...

Consoling myself by playing Shiren the Wanderer on my DS.

The other sad thing is that I took screenshots of every (32!) page of apps, was going to sort through them and figure out folders, but I forgot to copy the images over before hitting "update". :(

turn the screen off and read a book.

No Stanza. :(

Only books I have with me here at work that aren't manuals are The Cave of Time and Light on Quests Mountain.

Watch a movie. Play Pokemon. Eat a cake.

Movies on my iPod. :( Pokemon I can do. The cake is a lie!

But the most important thing you can do in this harsh time is play Hook Champ. Wait...

I won't be getting anywhere in Super Quick Hook today. :(

Depending on how the weather is there, you could go outside and enjoy the scenery? Maybe write a poem?

The weather is nice
But I am stuck at work now

I guess that would be nonsense though to assume that people actually do their jobs nowadays.

I do work!

I just happen to be blessed with a job that has lots of little bits of downtime, enough to make a post or two here or retry a level in SQH... Sometimes while waiting for a meeting to start coworkers an I get in a quick game or three of something - everybody knows I'm a geek here. ;) Last time my boss caught us playing SlotZ Racer she just laughed at us... :)

Getting some use out of my DS today - but overall not as much as it's not quite as discreet as the iPod. (Most everybody sets their iPhones/Blackberries/etc out where they are anyway - very common to get called away to work on something at pretty much any time.

Thanks for listening everybody. I may not love you all like Lt. Action does, but I do care. ;)

Eat a cake.

BONUS POST:

I almost forgot I had this handy, good insta-cake for work! (Drive your coworkers mad with the smell! ;))

The Most Dangerous Cake Recipe in the World

Ingredients

4 tablespoons self-raising flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil or melted butter
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug, approximately one pint capacity

Optional ingredients

Chocolate chips
Marshmallows
Nuts
Nutella spread
...or whatever you fancy!

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil/butter and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3.5 minutes at 800 watts (high). The cake might rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT! (This can serve two if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are only five minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

My favourite version of this cake is syrup sponge. Mix up the ingredients in a bowl (without cocoa obviously) and in another bowl (or the pint mug) put in 2 to 3 tablespoons of golden syrup. Then transfer the mixture to this bowl so it's on top of the golden syrup. Put this in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes and then cut around the cake in the bowl with a knife and tip onto a plate. It's delicious.

I made that exact cake (same website and everything, I remember it pretty well), and it really didn't come out as great as I thought it would be, and my expectations were pretty low.

Especially this kind of cake. I've tried one of these quick microwave cake recipes before too, and I would not call what comes out at the end a cake.

Restart your comp, and when you open iTunes again it will ask you to restore again, and it should work. This error happens to me literally EVERY TIME I update.

And while your waiting for that,

PC at work.

Am a local admin and could change plenty, but... I'm not supposed to. ;)

Right now running a sync, it's installing EVERYTHING which will take a while, but seems consistent with my last backup/restore.

I'm hoping things will be well in a few hours.

PS> I ended up replaying Dementia: The Ward yesterday while missing Prisoner 84 - they're both terrific games.

Stuck in a loop.

iPod is booting with iOS4.

When I plug it into iTunes it says it detected an interrupted restore, I can Cancel, Resume Restore or Delete Backup. If I choose Resume it starts resuming, then I get the "an error occured" message and then my iPod reboots.

I have some apps after T, but I've already found a handful that are missing.

At least The Quest made it (it stopped on Ti-something, right after Tilt To Live...) I may just say to hell with it and reinstall apps.

I do still have all 32 pages, so I can't be missing much.

All this work for folders. *shakes fist at Apple*

drelbs
07-20-2010, 06:05 PM
Hmm, update and failed restore cost me 41 apps.

Don't care about save data for most of these, though I'm not sure if I'm so eager to start Ynth and Battle for Wesnoth over from scratch. :(

Also the Settings app won't stay open for more than a few seconds. I saw some posts via google search about my original error, and it could be related to all the mobileprovision profiles I have on for beta testing. (Though all my beta apps made it except one.)

I also tried using the iPhone Configuration Utility, but can't seem to point it at a configuration to nuke the profiles I've got in iTunes (or the backup...)

Almost time to go home for today.

Oh noes!

Meh, I already knew about those.

No multi-tasking on 2nd gen iPod Touch anyway, duderz! :p

Giving up for today.

I think I'm gonna give up on the missing app data, make a new backup and restore the OS and that data, as things are here, but still a tad flaky. (Settings app won't stay running, and I've had it spontaneously reboot a few times.)

Was that a poop reference?

Actually I was thinking of this guy:

http://www.spscriptorium.com/Treats/OrgazmoACup.jpg

3.5 days later I'm still at it. Syncs never got past Uniwar, leaving lost data for 23 apps.

This morning I brought my iPod up in Recovery Mode, restored the OS, and am now running that first sync.

* fingers crossed *

drelbs
07-22-2010, 02:55 PM
This wait is of course made worse by the fact that NanoStudio just came out...

Right now I'm a little scared - sync is going pretty fast, and iTunes is installing the missing apps (Unify-Zooloretto) ONLY.

If it's doing what I think it's doing, I'm gonna have to start again with an older backup.

drelbs
07-22-2010, 03:13 PM
Well the sync did what I expected, I now have a stable iPod with all my photos and just a handful of apps.

Here's hoping an earlier backup works... :(

EDIT: Seems that there isn't a backup from when iOS4 did it's thing, previous backup is from May 5th?!?

drelbs
07-22-2010, 06:13 PM
Hrm, well it seems that the backup was good after all - however all of the apps up to that point in the alphabet (Uniwar) were unchecked (I don't sync all 2600+ apps in my library...)

Going to the applications tab and checking apps (I did a subset of the important ones first) shows that my app data appears to be intact!

So, I just need to put about 250 apps back on and I'll be in business!

Next time I think I'll try the backup/download OS/restore method I've read about so much in the past few days.

And major kudos to the developers of The Quest for enabling File Sharing so I can directly write that app's save games to my computer!
