I kinda like the way the forums look now. No ugly banners everywhere, just discussion of the topics at hand. Count my vote a nay.

I agree, avatars would spice up the discussions a bit... I don't know how, but it would look nice.

In all seriousness, I'm against avatars. They take away from the posts, and invite immaturity. Don't get me wrong, if we had avatars, I'd use an avatar, but I quite like not having avatars. That way, we're all the same. Kind of like having a school uniform. It's what's inside (your post/comments) that count...

Enable avatars after X amount of posts and make them relatively small... like 64 x 64
