3GS, ios4, old bootrom, but hasn't been jb before?

Thanks for the links. iclarified tells me that I can, if I have OSX (which I don't), but it doesn't mention whether or not not being previously jailbroken matters. I asume this means that it doesn't matter? If so, all I need to do now is find someone with a Mac or wait until a Windows 7 version of Pwnage tool comes out?

I think you need to have been jb to be able to restore to a patched firmware created by the pwnage tool beta.

If you saved your SHSH blobs (eg using umbrella) you can use them to downgrade to 3.1.2, then jb (using redsnow/blackra1n/etc.), then restore the patched 4.0 over that.
